- I got this with another AMT 1969 Cougar XR7. This one was started but not much was done. I used the body in a sponsored video by Super Clean. Once the body was clean, I just couldn't help myself and started to build this one. I had used the other kit that was just about Mint for my kit comparison video.

Color does look really nice that car.
Thank you!
Nice colors!!!
Thank you 🤗
I miss Mercury. Thanks for sharing this build. 👍🏻
No problem 👍
Nice job with your body work and paint, you do clean work. I enjoy watching you young guys (younger than me) work these old kits as they are the ones I built when they first came out. Yes, there is a different feel to them and lets face it, you just can't beat that old box art. Keep showing us stuff and I will keep watching!!!!
Thanks 👍
Great work. I really like the color selections. Looking forward to the completed project.
Thank you. It's looking sharp!
I like that you are staying true to this one as a box stock ish vintage kit build. It is going to be great as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I'm just enjoying building it. It is hard not to want to upgrade a few things.
Nice kit an the green is awesome
Thank you!
Very nice work so far. The body looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks 👍
Looks great, Raoul. As you pointed out, a lot of these older kits have been re-released, but there is a sense of nostalgia knowing you are working on an original. It's just different.....and very cool.....:)
Very true! Plus, it was started but never finished so it is not "mint". So, it deserves to be finished!
You could try a super light mist coat of Tamiya TS 71 smoke on the chrome. I find that it will bring back the shine sometimes. Love your color choice!
Thanks. I’ll probably just use the Revell Chrom Spray since I bought a can.
Love this kit, I have built two of the newer versions, they build up real nice. I really like the color combination you picked. Looking forward to seeing this one complete.
It’s a nice kit.
Lookin' fine!
Thank you!
Very nice work so far! I got a few of those Cougars in my stash, kinda by accident. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I also have way more than I planned to buy!
Very cool restoration! Love the color combo!
Thank you very much!
That's gonna come out so nice.
Thanks!
Cool color thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I would like to do an older kit like that
They were meant to be built!
thanks for the great video!
My pleasure!
7:25 I personally would use it and paint the outer part Ford Corporate blue, You're right it is like the 289 air cleaner but I made a sleeper with my real 1967 cougar In the late nineties, painted the 351 I put in it Ford Corporate Blue, as well as the aluminum Ford Motorsport intake and the G T 40 extra turbo swirl heads too. And I thought it was funny to put that air cleaner on and it still said 289, the outer part was Ford Corporate blue and that big chrome carburetor cover on top was stock and chrome. That Green looks incredible! I have a 1/64th scale 1968 cougar that is a Johnny Lightning the same color. That's going to look awesome!
Thanks. On the air cleaner I found a better one in my parts box and am using that one.
That’s cool that you made your 351 look like a 289! I did something similar with my wagon. It had a mild build 440 and it looked like a 440 Super Commando and was a bit hotter than a stock one. I had the dual snorkel air cleaner. Magnum manifolds and even Mopar Performance valve covers. But it did have aluminum heads and aluminum dual plane intake. Most assumed it was a stock motor. But now I am building a replacement 512 stroker with roller cam and Trick Flow heads. I’m dreaming of adding the Fi Tech 6 pack to it and having it look like a 440+6 in a Fury Wagon!
Noticeable difference in the re-chromed grille and bumpers you had wrapped up in paper. The brighter they are, the better for me
I have a '69 Cougar Eliminator AMT kit #898/12, unopened. Are you saying it has an incorrect dashboard and interior?
Yes the chrome really does pop! The 69 Eliminator kit is correct for that version. You can check my kit history video on these models. The kit started as an XR7 model and had a more luxurious interior and different emblems. The Eliminator was a more performance marketed version and the only way to get a Boss 302! It had a more standard interior but had the clock on the pass side. ERTL changed the engines, interior, wheels, removed emblems, added hood scoop, spoilers, hood pins and mirrors when they updated the kits!
Wow! That was quite the unboxing reveal! Interesting information about the tooling changes. Was the Eliminator not available with the XR-7 interior? Can't wait to see this one finished!
Thanks. The Eliminator had the base interior.
Those Chevy rallys look like the one in the 69 Chevelle kit
They do.
I wish you could make me a maroon 1999 Old's Bravada, there's literally nothing out there in toy form.
That is definitely an odd subject.
