I have one of these. It has finally given up on me. The main drive gear, which is part of the motor’s armature, is completely worn and the helical gear too. I need to replace armature and helical gear. But I cannot find parts anywhere in the world! Any advice?
There are power tool repairshops in the US, though it is a bit of a dying breed. They can get parts from the major manufacturers. I did find a parts list online so if you google search 7100b makita mortiser parts diagram it will come up. If you can't find a tool repairshop there are electric motor repairshops that may be able to help or point you in the right direction. Also never underestimate reaching out to Makita as well. They may be able to help, though at full retail I'm sure.
Apologies. I'm not sure if I understand the question. If it is in reference to the 7100b i'd recommend it even used from Japan they're an excellent addition to the toolbox and save time. There are other chain mortisers that are more expensive and may offer a few more features or more time savings but this one offers plenty for the average person wanting to build something themselves with minimal investment.
Ebay has them regularly for 400-500 dollars, shipped in some instances. There are forums dedicated to timber framing as well where they come up for sale as well.

Did you have to pay extra to import the thing? Ebay talks about this but I don't know if it actually happens
No. I bought it off ebay. No extra fees just the price of the item.
