Good recording!! The Aston Origin did a Great job producing an Excellent final product, especially considering it was the Only mic used. Everyone has to remember, the Origin has a slightly hyped high end....and it isn't bad at all, but consider that he used the mic on Everything, resulting in all the qualities of the mic being stacked on top of each other in multiple instances. So, that "slightly" hyped high end (or any characteristic) is just getting reproduced and stacked, layer upon layer, reinforcing those frequencies exponentially. Using this mic on like one or two tracks in a complete multitrack song full of other tracks recorded direct and/or with Other completely different sounding microphones is a totally different ballgame!! The Origin will find a much more natutal and pleasant sounding niche among the other tracks and that high end will actually work very well in Most Mixes

Dude, the fullness of your voice, you sound similar to Josh Ramsey, but smoother. Usually this kind of vocal presence and smoothness is found in voice over/voice acting, wow!
How’s the level of self noise? I’m about getting one but besides the great quality that is the only thing that is making me from placing the order. 18 seems a bit high.
I prefer a small diaphragm condenser on acoustic guitars. I can't remember, but I may have engaged the low-cut filter on the guitar. IMO the low gut is a little too much for my taste.
I think a dynamic mic like the sm7b has it's place, but large diaphragm condensers are a great tool to have too. The Origin turned out to be quite a nice little mic for the price. But in the larger picture I think as long as a mic isn't a total piece of crap, one can EQ a mic to fit your taste with lots of leeway.
Great review of the Aston Origin and the song is catchy. To my ears the Aston Origin has an unusual high end on the vocals. Maybe it could be tamed a bit and take some of the highs off of the vox. I would love to hear this song again with the vox EQ'd to hear how the Origin reacts to EQ.
I think the Origin has a nice open sound. If you are referring to the sound of the mic in the context of the song, you may be hearing my own EQ preferences in the mix.

james Park apogee is an audio interface with basic preamps. After you get the interface, then you start buying nicer preamps. That being said, you can record just fine with apogee pres. all good!
Listening to the song, I say the Origin is good for vocals and acoustic guitar, but not for distorted guitar. Distorted, it sounds to my ear almost SM57 tinny like. Not as bad, but lacks life in the sound. Good video.

I wear a headset too when I record, but I get a latency delay, so that makes it a bit tough to do harmony tracks. I think I need a different computer interface. Thanks for the review... I record in the regular Cubase 8.5, and there is a "low latency" button that turns off everything that causes latency. Google around and see if your Elements has that same feature, or some work-around.

I have a rasp sometimes, and this Aston Origin seems to work great with my baritone voice. I can't say about your voice. It's always a gamble without being able to try before you buy, but at least you can return things if they don't work out.
