I've used mine for final production artwork, but keep in mind I do a lot of black and white only illustrations. Zooming + layers is great for final touches/inking. If you treat it like 'just a little bit better than paper' and not expect it to be photoshop or whatever, it's really good. And who wouldn't want a sketchbook with unlimited pages? That's the whole reason I got one.
I like this as a sketch book, but the colour aspect of iPad is of course pretty great. If you are a beginner though, it's worth learning with something simple like this, because all the colour and fancy tools on iPad can be a little overwhelming when you are just starting out.
Thanks for the detailed review! I was looking at many reviews of the remarkable but didn't really find anything from an artist's point of view. I think this was more aimed to be something like a sketch book and/or notebook. (obviously haha) But when I have the money I'd love to buy it.
Honestly I can't wait to see them make a new device down the road. This is by far the best feeling to real paper, and the technology can only get better. I am pretty unhappy with the export quality so far, but perhaps that will get better.
You used many interesting looking styluses (stylii?) in this video that don’t appear to be the ones that came with the reMarkable. I’d love to know what they were, where you got them, and what their pros and cons are when used with a reMarkable. Might be a fun concept for another video?
@@KitBetts-Masters Time travel is real! Thank you so much, Kit. I've really been enjoying your videos so far. I have a reMarkable 2 on order and I just finished watching your review of a bunch of different eInk tablets and I'm cautiously optimistic that I made the right choice. I really want a device I can focus, plan, think and sketch with, and it seems to excel at that by not cluttering itself with a thousand capabilities -- but I know my inner geek is going to long for color, etc. Perhaps reMarkable 2 will be a way of dipping my toes in the eInk tablet world without breaking the bank... although a refurb + leather cover + marker plus totaled out to $635.28, so it's far from 'cheap'. :D Depending, I might avail myself of their return policy and try a couple of the others... I'm grateful to have you as my eInk Sherpa, and I'm glad you spent the time to film all these wonderful breakdowns.
Hello! I have three questions: I read that with Sketchbook Pro on Boox Air 2 the tilt is also working, did you or could you try and compare? And, that the exported vector is poor in details and limited, what do you think? And lastly, is it possible to export the vector map on Boox? If the tilt would work and there was the vector map export, I would rather prefer the Boox Air 2 to Remarkable.
So yes, tilt works in sketchbook. So it's not a hardware limitation. However, there is a similar issue to one note, i.e. the pen refresh is long. Works best in A2 mode but it's still a good way off pleasant to use like that! What we need is for boox to make a dedicated drawing app with tilt and a few more artistic options!
I can’t even get those gradients of greyshade you have. It’s either nothing (no or not very much pressure), very dark or dark. Light grey or grey is somehow not possible For me. Is that because of the stylus’s you use?
Love it. Also check out the Kindle scribe for art and the Tab Ultra C as well. I have a comparison somewhere. Also the Tab X gives you full a4 size sketching!
So do you think this works as a line art book that can then port to a PC so it can be re-inked & colored in somewhere else? Cuz right now I draw, scan in the sketch, then ink in PC program, then color it's alot of work I don't like. I like just paper & done and I'm trying to find a way to digital it! Thanks
I was on the verge of buying a Remarkable 2 but I thought it was an A4 size screen. If it is only A5.. well that is really disappointing and I will have to have a rethink.

Thanks so much, spot on! Where can we see some of your artwork with the RM?
A reSketchable aimed at artists would be fantastic!
Thanks! Untapped market I think! I've suggested it be to them, but surprisingly... yawn... they didn't get back.
Deciding between a purchase of this or an ipad for work and beginner drawing, and this was incredibly helpful. Thank you for the video

I have a few comparisons between iPad and remarkable, including for drawing!

It is great if you love sketching and/or your notes have lots of diagrams and scribbles, arrows and boxes etc!
This is exactly my thinking I've been waiting for a bigger screen with colour use I was hoping the remarkable 2 was it ha x
Yeah, I think we'll be waiting for the perfect artists' tablet for a little while!
It will likely never have a colour screen. I believe this is an eink screen which is very limited in terms of colour options.

Yes, it would be a great idea, so I made it! th-cam.com/video/MNzs6pKS7Xs/w-d-xo.html. Hehehe thanks so much!

Ooh, I'm going to try sketchbook on the NA2! I'm not sure about the vectors on Boox, perhaps this could be a good video....

I can see that you use some different pen, thick one? Where did you get this, please?
Hiya, this is a lamy EMR pen.
Review of it here: th-cam.com/video/wiicMx3mxxo/w-d-xo.html
Thank you the video! 😊
Was wondering what kind of stylus/pencil you are using? TIA
It's the Lamy EMR pen. I like it because you can out the remarkable nibs into it! You can see a comparison of different styluses on my channel.
I’d like to get a pen and marker feel on it would that be possible ? Can you export as any other files like jpeg or png?
PNG I think. SVG as well.
Yeah, you can find "felt" feel nibs.
@@KitBetts-Masters sounds Bob on
I tend to sketch in an a5 sketch book so it Bob on in that regard. Great reviews btw
Cheers bud.
Damn, that setup though.
Many years of adding bits and bobs!
Sketching, and learning. When you do 2 to 3 drawings a day, the piles of paper add up.

Yeah, the Tab X is my current recommend for drawing. I have a video introducing it and will bring more content on drawing soon.
The price of the actual Remarkable Pen is so expensive so if you don't mind please send me a cheaper version on Amazon or somewhere else
th-cam.com/video/wiicMx3mxxo/w-d-xo.html this is the one I use with the remarkable. Links in description I think!
