Stanley uses soldering to seal the Stanley cups. Any good vacuum sealed cup/bottle does that. The thing is, soldering is lead. My uncle is a metal artist he solders metal together and has lead in it. The fun thing is, if you don’t lick it or swallow it after it’s cooled down and formed you won’t get any damage. Non-lead solders aren’t as strong and malleable at the same time. So it doesn’t work as well for the purpose of a cup that is going to take beatings from people like me who have butter fingers. The reason people found lead in Stanley cups is because the piece that seals the lead away safely is broken off on their cup and are cleaning the whole thing with the same one sponge or rag. If they washed other dishes with that sponge or rag after the fact, those other dishes would test positive on a swab I’m sure but I don’t know exactly. That’s why Stanley has lifetime warranty. Once the Stanley logo circle on the bottom comes off you contact Stanley for a replacement. It’s safe otherwise as long as you clean it regularly. Including taking the gasket (the white or black rubber ring in the lid) and all other removable parts off and cleaning them too. Including removing the rubber from the straw insert part idk what that’s called.
