Recorded on 30th July 1963, this song is in marked contrast to the previous song that the Beatles had recorded, their cover of Till There Was You. Whereas that song involved a wide range of chords (Lennon plays 21 different chords in total), including relatively unusual chords such as a selection of 9th, augmented and diminished chords, and a very effective lead guitar part played by Harrison, Please Mister Postman is a much more straightforward affair. Wit just four chords (A, F#minor, D and E), played over and over (and over) again, this is one of the simplest early Beatles songs to play on guitar, with only two short pauses towards the end offering any variation on the four chord sequence.
