Yes. The "Current day" writers cannot understand nuances, gray areas, morality and Star Wars lore. All of the above are integral for a KOTOR... anything, really. If attempted, it'll be a hollow, shallow "In name only" sh!t-show that won't last more than 1 season.
Is the problem not understanding nuances and grey area? I feel like the problem is the opposite where they’re trying to make it more morally complex then it was intended to be, I mean the two main sides are called the light and the dark
@@willfakaroni5808 it's kind of the same problem... these idiots THINK they can do morally grey just by making everyone equally stupid and schizophrenic. That's not moral complexity so much as it is moral confusion Stories like KOTOR are complex because they look ay the Light and Dark sides from multiple angles without the writer taking an absolute stance, they left that up to the audience. The point is less who's good and who's bad and more how they got there and who you sympathize with. Modern Star Wars writers just want to convince you it's all the same and thus doesn't matter.... which is just nihilism
I don't think it's a question of "gray areas" but of respect for the "StarWars universe". -In Swtor the "too dogmatic" side was shown (even if it's just a side quest). Refusing jedis in love to be together and having to be reported to superiors them. It didn't bother the players because love is one of the risks of passions that can turn a Jedi towards the dark side. The story of Revan and the expanded universe is full of nuances. The central story of Star Wars is Anakin falling to the dark side and coming back. -Nothing stops Disney from showing jedis who fall into the dark side of the force or "gray" siths. But it has to respect the "laws" of universe that fans love. There is something fundamentally "samurai" about the jedis with a sort of "The Code of Bushido". Their behavior must look like the one of a “nobility of the sword”, which does not prevent certain individuals from having excesses. It's not consistent to have Jedis who act on impulse (like in the Acolyte), they weren't educated like that. => We just need people who understand the StarWars universe to be behind the scriptwriters and showrunners to be sure they don't make characters do things that don't correspond to who they are in the SW universe.
@@petriew2018 They also think moral complexity means (1) Take clearly evil villain e.g. Cruella De Vil, (2) Make a backstory pre-quel showing how she's really the poor innocent victim (3) Profit from your morally complex and wonderful . . . where's the money? Rather than understanding that while a morally gray or complex character can work if done well just making a prequell to show the villain as really the hero only annoys people and undercuts the entire original movie and characters. I love Cruella as the unhinged puppy skinning monster she was. The poor misunderstood orphan girl who's mother was killed by Dalmations and gave (a race swapped) Anita Perdita just makes the whole thing an unnecessary mess.
As long as Kathleen Kennedy, her entire inner circle, Bob Iger, and the woke are in charge of SW, yes, it would not only fail but insult and middle finger all the fans of the classic games just as the sequel triligoy was just one big middle finger to everyone who grew up and loved the original and prequel trilogies of SW.
At this stage, the problem is that even if they do a great movie, their is no guarantee that the creators aren't going to get mad that we didn't enjoy the proper way and make another joker Fu 2.😅
Kind of nuts how a director prefers to ruin his career to having „the wrong audience“, when that audience was more or less just the common, middle of the road, general audience. How brainwashed was that guy to think this was normal behavior?
The problem is not that they didn’t show the Jedi doing anything wrong, it’s that the writers believe that everything the Jedi does and have done are inherently wrong.
"the writers" = a show runner, who seems so be obsessed with evil. It could be different with a different creative team, but I doubt it, because Disney keeps hiring these people. Old management wisdom: "sh*t flows downhill".
@@luna-hw9li The Lucasfilm Story Group signed off on Acolyte, Pablo Hidalgo as head of that group signed off on that show, Phoney Dave Filoni as creative head of LF signed off that show, KK as head of LF got tears in her eyes signing off on that show. It may have been Harvey Weinsteen's former accomplice who came up with that story, but ALL of Lucasfilm was on board with that story. So LF agrees that the Jedi are evil. They hate EVERYTHING that George Lucas and the EU writers came up with and they want to replace it with their own activist driven shoddy drivel.
Bastila would never be allowed to be humbled due to her inexperience. Mission wouldn't have learned her skills from her older brother, but instead she taught him how to slice, con, shoot, etc. Jolee would have none of his nuance. Carth would be dialed up to an 11 with his story of being in the military more than at home. Canderous would become cartoonishly battle happy. Juhani's story would be "something something male Jedi holding her back and her being a lesbian is her path to the light". And Revan wouldn't be allowed to be male unless he's gay and not white. Many star wars fans have wanted an Old Republic movie or tv show, but Disney has proven that if we got one, it wouldn't be anything like the thing we all love. Instead the sentiment shifted from "we hope they make it" to "we hope they never touch it".
You just know they'd make the Juhani/Bastilla LGBT mod canon - they'd make Revan a BIpoc girl (Not bashing - you can legitimately do that in game = but they'd do it for politics, not fun) and probably canonically a Sentinel/Consular if a girl. Or for a guy; dumb as a post, no charm, Soldier Knight because Hulk Smash. Without ever getting to Hulk... Smash! (Bastilla would also never canonically have her kid with Revan because, see above) Mission would be played by Bella Ramsey, or some twiglet Asian with too much unearned attitude; the wookie would be secretly a female. Canderous would be a closet transvestite (if it wasn't him it would be Carth) or actively transitioning, and technically playing the uber macho for "overcompensation." We could all go on. We know how they'd do this. Just to "own the chuds" meanwhile, how again... did you nuke your entire fanbase?
I’m hoping and praying that they saw the recent US election results and took the hint. Their “modern audience” is only like 10% of the population max and most of them are leftists who don’t pay for entertainment and just pirate it because “tee hee I can’t adult and I’m so poor…” Sonic 3 should be teaching them that all you have to do is give the real fans what they want. And for Star Wars fans it seems like they want Keanu to play Revan.
Disney has proven to us on multiple occasions that they have a reverse Midas touch. They will absolutely shoehorn their awful agendas or canon into the EU classics they would touch.
5:25 and there is the problem in a nutshell. "come in and tell the story" to them is really "come in and tell A story". They want to tell THEIR story, and they are so insecure as to whether it would be successful, that they figure if they glom on to an established franchise, they can tell whatever crap they want and the fans automatically would cheer it. Sorry Scooter... It does not work that way, and whining about 'toxic fans' in the media won't change it.
Yeppers, Riverdale, Halo, Velma, Chronicles of Sabrina, Witcher, Rings of power, The Watch, The Chips movie, Resident Evil (The netflix series and it says a lot when the fillms were a more faithful adaption), Starfox adventures, Wild Wild West, Hotel Transylvania 3, He-Man (The Kevin Smith lies), She-Ra (the we will pretend the original female cast and crew don't exist story), Looney Tunes University (These two characters who practically had a catch phrase of "No relation" and wind up dating/married are now siblings), Ariel (The oh we need to make her a strong indpendant woman so we'll rewrite the story to turn her into a gold digger instead and hope no one asks if she doesn't like the prince and doesn't remember needing to be kissed why is she living rent free in the royal palace. With by the way a queen who believes the magic sea people are sinking your homeland but trade with your neighbours is stupid, great representation there). I get IP = nostalgia audience and I get "We need to keep the rights" but surely someone, somewhere in a media company has to realize if you're going to nostalgia bait an audience you need to use actual nostaliga? Slathering an IP over your own story just angers the nostalgia fans, ruins the IP as a marketable property and doesn't draw in a new audience because they also think your telling the IP story.
It's great that filmmakers were able to come in and tell stories without so much creative restrictions, it was great for Colin Trevorrow to have nothing to work with because Luke was a major part of his Ep. 9 script and Kathleen Kennedy screamed at him like a banshee about "NO LUKE NEEDS TO BE DEAD, HE'S DEAD, HE'S DEAD, LALALALALA CAN'T HEAR YOU HE'S DEAD" until firing him from his own movie.
I love kotor, i rember playing it as a kid on my dads original xbox. It was an amazing game. I never ever ever want disney to do anything with it. I wish they'd stop digging up the corpse of star wars constantly and just let the franchise rest in peace at last. Not that they will, especially given Lucasfilm is still operating at a loss as they've only made roughly 2 billion of the four billion spent buying the company.
Big part of why I loved the EU (New Republic era) books is they were largely internally coherent, it made sense, it fitted together and they made sure "not to break the rules" in spite of so many different authors contributing, which is what this guy called.. what was it again? "creative restrictions" I hate that they can make up new rules on the fly and then forget about it the next moment, anything that is "cool in the moment"
Once upon a time the most offensive thing that happened after ROTJ was killing off Mara Jade because one writer personally felt like it. Boy how spoiled we were.
What I loved about the EU and despise about Disney star wars is that in the EU people grew. The galaxy learned the lessons of the fall of the republic as did the new jedi order. Luke, han, Leia and lando grew as people and the lessons learned in the OT carried forward shaping who they became. This never happened in Disney star wars, the galaxy and the characters regressed. Han went back to being a deadbeat, Leia gave up on democracy and Luke just gave up. The best comparison I can think of is Luke's duel with Jason solo aboard the anakin solo during the second galactic civil war. Having walked in on jacen torturing Ben Luke's only child. Tortured by the man who killed his wife and tore the galaxy asunder. But even then when Luke was at his lowest he never forgot the lesson he learned about the second death star and pulled back knowing he'd strike at jacen in anger and become the very thing he sought to destroy just like when he nearly killed Vader. Meanwhile in the sequel trilogy Luke has a bad dream we never learn the details of and despite all he learned from Vader and his fall still decided to go try kill his nephew who's done nothing wrong and is his finest student. I truly despise Disney star wars.
@@jdstudios1912 And said nephew on waking up instantly know's his uncle is there to kill him as opposed to protect him against something and proceeds to somehow overpower him and kill every other single student there. Yet can't defeat a girl with zero training holding a lightsaber for the first time.
As many people have said rules, history, canon are all things that define a world and give a story stakes. When I am the most powerful magic user in existence and I have to balance the load or trying to lift a boulder will shove my brain out my ears (Belgarion) it says there are things I can't do, there are compromises I must make and there is a chance I will fail. Which means people keep reading to see if I will succeed even if they know its a story so obviously the heroes will win in the end. When you take that away you take away any stakes or meaning because it becomes "And then I raise the dead, and the land out of the sea into the sky, oh and I make a magic shield to keep every alive and healthy and and I use my amazing death laser to blow up the planet and bring it back only I leave all the villains dead and and and". No ones interested in watching or reading it because not only do they know how it must end but there's no consistency. We need to deal with this super ship we made up, ligthspeed ramming . . . oh that causes problems well its a one a million thing no one else can pull off now Holdo's dead. Doctors history is boring for me now he's a little brown girl chosen one from another universe and can regenerate infinately and suddenly the audience don't care because why get invested in a world where a new showrunner will just rewrite decades of History cause they feel like it.
It is pretty optimistic and even naive to think Disney is capable of making a Star Wars show on the level of The Penguin. There’s no way anyone currently working at LucasFilm is capable of producing something like that for Star Wars.
Star Wars is far from dead. It's just being kept alive by Star Wars fans now instead of an actual company so the budgets for films, stories, games, etc is much lower, but they are still being made. There's an Heir to the Empire episodic adaptation here on youtube, the Darth Plagueis novel is being adapted too, there are Star Wars mods for both Star Wars and non Star Wars games, original fanfics that are compatible with the EU are still being written and there's an EU ReExpanded group that's trying to curate those stories into a seamless canon. Sure it's a lot harder to do it without the funds or leadership of a centralized authority, but Star Wars fans are a uniquely resilient and motivated bunch. I suspect we'll keep Star Wars alive for over a thousand generations after Disney finally sells it off or the copyright for it expires.
😒 I am tired of hearing people parrot the old Birthday Party Clown rallying cry: “Star Wars Is Dead.” It isn’t dead, but it’s certainly getting the shit beat out of it.
yea...these you tube creators just focus on star wars because of the clicks, likes, and comments. They are making money off disney as well. I think it's time to unsub these people as well.
the only thing that's gonna save Star Wars is videos like this, honestly. The only thing that will convince Disney to either sell it or clean house at Lucasfilm is bad press. If we 'let it go', Disney just convinces themselves they've won because the hate stopped, and the pipeline of shit continues to flow.
In large part, the people in charge don't want to tell the stories that the fans want to watch, and only do so begrudgingly. The fact that Andor got made at all is impressive.
3:03 Ha! wonderful. I haven't heard sarcasm that deep since SNL Jeopardy: "write any animal. it can be a donkey, or a puppy, how about a nice little cat? Just write an animal..." they are just going to put a chick in it and make it lame and gay
Get Sam Witwer on it, or in it. The guy is legendary. He has more knowledge about it than anyone I can think of. And he's probably the most humble guy ever. I have no doubt he could do Old Republic in the absolute best and most faithful way.
Actually, you might need to hire guys who aren't just humble but who can also hold their ground and be confrontational. Otherwise, they'll end up accepting the propagandists' demands.
@@thibaldus3 i believe you are correct. disney wants the wokeness because if they don't push the narrative, then they won't get the billions of government (taxpayers) dollars every year. Yes, disney gets billions of dollars every year and that is why they will never go out of business. We are giving them money whether we watch their content or not. look it up.
Revan's story is perfection. Simple as. His heroic rise, fall to the dark, and return to the light. Then his corruption at the hands of the emperor only to break free, join with the force, and aid the heroes again. His story is that of a man who deserves to be both praised for his heroism and as a cautionary tale. Especially since his fall to the darkness was due to his desire to protect the galaxy as a whole and fullfill his duity as a Jedi Knight being corrupted and turned against him.
Even if the series miraculously overcomes the cataclysmic apathy Kennedy Wars has generated, it is highly unlikely it will be written and directed to a quality that can keep viewers' attention.
I haven't consumed anything Star Wars since Rogue One. Not a single thing related to it. I won't ever again as long as the people who ruined it are still running it.
You might get lucky like skeleton crew, bur I would not hold my breath. I remember they were gonna reboot the old republic game and one of the writers involved was hoping to give it the "modern audience" treatment.
Sadly it's highly unlikely. The only reason andor and skeleton crew have been good is due to Disney not caring about the project. Disney would care about a kotor project and the result will be an abomination.
I was just watching a video today pointing out nobody watches star wars lore videos anymore because Disney will change anything on a whim completely devaluing the whole concept of lore.
@@innocuousalias6632 THIS ABSOLUTELY! Im also not even clear on everything thats for sure retconned. And whats the point nothing new can undo the damaged of so many failed productions. Disney is trapped theres no way out. This brand is just dead weight dragging them down further.
Could you imagine the traction that an authentic KOTOR movies would get. All Disney really needs to do is let KK's contract lapse, and then go to some fan cast websites and make a dream team actor list... Make it a big event, give the fans the apology they deserve. Get a director that can say... "as close to cannon as the format allows". Get Keanu Reaves as Revan, maybe find a role for Henry Cavil (Canderous Ordo?). Don't just try to coast off their good will, but let them sell the movie to the fans. Find people who can really bring their character's to life and who don't seem miscast from square one... I can't imagine it would ever happen, but i can't help but think it would be a hell of a hit.
I dno, I don't know any casual viewers or star wars that would ever watch another star wars movie in cinemas. And the hardcore fans are diminishing leaving only the most avid or toxic fans who'd even bother.
@@demomanchaosit did, but bear in mind that it was a new medium. A live action star wars show had never been done and nobody knew what to expect so they tuned in to find out. But now we've had star wars shows for a few years and seen the quality of it, the views keep declining. They've run out of good will. A good example of this effect is skeleton crew and andor. Neither show did well in terms of viewership despite being solid shows simply because fans kept getting burned every time they gave Disney a shot.
IF an Old Republic show were to be made, they should use stories that have been hinted towards, but never fully written out. That would allow them to adapt the story without compromising any existing lore around it. For example, you could make a show about the Great Sith War and the fall of Exar Kun. You could use that to hint at further stories in that timeline when he interacts with ancient Sith spirits. You could keep all the most important moments of the story but still have plenty of room to allow the writers to shape a story that they would like to tell.
5:02 - True reason they can't admit their stories are crap because it would hurt share value and hurt the shareholders The people that actually matter, admitting fault and declaring their taking a new direction would cause too much uncertainty
The Expanded Universe wouldn’t have been as popular if it hadn’t been mostly focused on the OT characters while SLOWLY building up new characters. Without them most people wouldn’t have cared
There is no way we will ever get decent Star Wars from Disney until Kathleen Kennedy is gone. As long as she is there, she will insist that her agenda be forced into everything.
You called it after Disney bought Star Wars. Disney got into it with the expanded universe over royalty payments and won't use the expanded universe for that exact reason!
At this point, it would fail based solely on what has come before. It could have an amazing story, great acting, spot on visuals and ignore everything else that Lucasfilm has made since 2012 while following the og trilogy lore, but because of the sequel trilogy, Obi-Wan, the book of Boba Fet, Ahsoka and the Acholyte fans have either left or stopped caring about anything new coming out.
I'm a huge fan of KOTOR. It is one of my GOATs and made me a BioWare fan. And I think current Disney would fuck it up. I would rather have that remake that I was promised many moons ago in a galaxy far far away. But apparently I can't have that either.
Nobody at Disney Lucasfilm would be able to do the Old Republic era justice. They even made their own special era called The High Republic, and even that was no good as evidenced by how the acolyte turned out.
They could easily do Revans story as a trilogy starting with him as a young Jedi for the first movie, his fall to the dark side in the second, and basically the storyline from Knights of the Old Republic for the Third.
Might be better to play with the order a bit. Open with the events of Kotor, then end it (after the victory celebration at the end of the game) with a quiet somber Revan saying to say Jolee "I remember everything" then have the next two memories showing the Mandalorian war (2nd movie) and his fall to the sith (3rd movie) then sequel bait with a return to Revan and Jolee with Revan saying "Everything I did and he's still out there as powerful as ever and the Republic is weaker. Were the council right, should I not have acted at all?"
And if we do they imediately decide its "profitable" and start changing it to fit their vision then give the surprised Pikachu face when it suddenly and mysteriously loses the fans that were watching it.
Part of the issue is KK/the story group seems to be under the impression fans want to be "surprised"... But book readers never want to be "surprised" by adaptations. We want to see our books faithfully brought to life. Old Republic covers a long period of history... so there's no problem with adding to those stories, but it needs to be the same level of quality.
I am eternally amused by Disney axing the expanded univers and then come crawling back in the dark of the night pilfering choice bits and hoping noones notices. Thrawn? Dark troopers? waow, such original ideas
Disney broadly has a problem in symmetry with past successes. When things were good, each "fairytale" movie promised the success of the next; each MCU title leading up to "Endgame" made the others must-see. Now, bad, tedious Star Wars seems to only promise more bad, tedious Star Wars, and the consistent quality of the MCU has given way to consistent undermining of its own drama for snark and mystery for "homework". The lackluster ratings of "Skeleton Crew", post-Acolyte, attest to this. Now, more than ever, it's important to focus on making a new entry a good story that makes the audience care, not a prop for future shows that suggest broken promise.
JSG: GIve us something we like, like Andor, and we will watch it. Actually, the ratings of Andor were in the gutter. Like with Skeleton Crew. Because once you utterly destroy a franchise and the fans stop caring, they ain't coming back for the few things you make that are still good. You can shock the fans by 'subverting expectations', you can make them angry, you can make them try and bargain with you by dangling Mando in front of them, but once they reach the depression phase it's only a short step to acceptance, and then they are gone, into apathy phase, and they no longer care.
The _apathy_ is so strong at this point that I didn't watch Skeleton Crew. Maybe it was good, maybe not. I'm past caring. They're going to struggle to get me back no matter how good the next thing is.
(article paraphrased) "It would cost too much per episode to film, and do it with the proper spectacle in the stories..." Or you could...animate it. 2D animation, even. Western audiences will still bite if you do it anime style-which, going by the numbers for the most expensive anime TV series to date, would cost... _155 times less_ per episode than The Acolyte.
Considering they robbed Tales of The Jedi of its name, idk if they'll ever do a KoToR series considering how instrinsically linked it is to the story of Ulic and Exar
at this point in the game i dont care if it is a Shakespearian lvl written show, they (HOEllywood and disney) dont deserve our time and our money... nice video man, take care
Yes even if it is what every Star Wars fan wants we’re done with the abusive relationship that is Disney. We’re not even mad anymore we’re apathetic we are the abused partner in abusive relationship in the hospital while Disney is trying to come in to the room with flowers and chocolate saying they didn’t mean to they were just having a bad day.
Given what I've seen of their approach they'd actually be the one saying "I did it for your own good right, you understand I wouldn't have needed to hit you if you didn't act up like that."
They’ll make Revan a black lesbian Mary sue and ham fist identity politics into it. It’ll be garbage. Lucas film has no talent or the smarts to adapt the game well into a series. Let the old republic time period stay buried.
I think it would fail due to the brand being pretty much beyond damaged. Maybe once KK is gone you might be able to get people to give it a chance. I think an Animated version would work better.
Disney wants to promote anything it creates as the only canon since the profits go to the company, not George Lucas or other creators. For that financial reason alone, I doubt an Old Republic Film or show would be made with the current Disney heads in charge. This is a shame, as the stories I played in the Old Republic Game version were often excellent. You wonder why a company like Disney could fumble so severely, but it's happened as it is happening still. Perhaps another company or a return of the franchise to George Lucas's hands is the only solution to this ongoing mediocrity, which is modern Star Wars.
It doesn't matter how good or bad an Old Republic series or movie would be, there would be a ton of backlash. Look at Fallout's tv show. It was really well done & faithful to the setting. It also got a huge amount of backlash from part of the fanbase. Plus the culture war types will through a huge fit especially if it stayed true to the setting. The Old Republic has always been a lot more woke than some folks release. A lot of stuff people complained about in the Acolyte (like the Force Witches) is straight out of Old Republic lore.
You are entirely right!!!. Disney using their own story is not about canon and its not about originality. Its about saving money by not having to pay the intellectual owners of established characters and stories. Its just about money plain and simple. The other issue is that the Disney vision for Star Wars under Kathleen Kennedy is about girl power and girl bosses. Tackling the Old Republic stories with this mentality would fail terribly
Yes. Even if by some miracle it would be good, like with Andor or Skeleton Crew, the amount of crap Disney has shoveled out over the years has viewers burnt out. Acolyte was the final nail in the coffin
The Old Republic should absolutely be made into a show or movie... Right after the rights to do it are no longer Disney's, and so long as we get a guarantee that KK and her sycophants will have absolutely no involvement with it.
If made by the current Lucasfilm/Disney it absolutely would fail horribly, if made by someone who understood the franchise and wanted to make something actually good it would crush it at the box office.
Far as I’m concerned, I never wanna see an Old Republic TV show or movie until Lucasfilm gets a major shake up. I have zero confidence it will ever make any good stories until the people in charge start focusing on writing good stories again. Not the garbage we’ve been getting for the past few years
I think they can do both. The Old Republic is such a long period with many stories to tell and it’s so far removed from the rest of SW history that it feels like its own pocket universe. You can do 20 years worth of films, tv shows, animated spin offs, etc.
The prequels aged like fine vine compared to the sequels.. Personally, I do not want Disney to touch Revan or anything to do with the Old Republic, unless they adopt KOTOR story, line by line, scene by scene. No wheelchair bound Carth, no transgender Canderous, no black Bastila, but we all know Disney couldn't help themselves.. especially if they weren't allowed to "update" and "modernize" the story.. Then again, maybe they should do it, spend the 200+ million and have the fans just laugh and ignore it..
STOP asking for a Knight of the Old Republic adaptation. Disney has proven that they can’t handle the basics let alone something as complicated and beloved as Kotor. And don’t say Tony Gilroy because his wheelhouse is spy thriller, not galactic Risk.
Currently, even if Lucasfilm was magically purged of Kennedy and every single activist within it. A Old Republic serie would still be a massive failure, Even if we had Revan or a faithful adaptation ofDarth Bane trilogy. Apathy has settled within most old school fan. We've moved on, and made our peace with the death of the Star Wars franchise. Any tentative of adaptation of Legend stuff, would first require to win back a portion of the old fanbase to have any measure of success. And I can't see that happening anymore. We've been burned far too many time, our hopes crushed too many time by KK, Disney and so many others. It would take not just one but many big changes, both within Lucasfilm/Disney and their products for a portion of old fans to come back. And honestly, given what we've been through, I don't know if many would be willing go back.
If the Jedi being dogmatic is an issue - just do what Dune:Prophecy did and show the Jedi as less formal/dogmatic...still having emotions etc...after all the Order developed over time, the Jedi in the prequels were meant to be dogmatic, atrophied in their thinking and overconfident, sure they had all the answers
It will fail because the creators still are the same and did not get fired yet. So Star Wars is not prio one but woke, feminisme and DEI agenda is prio one.
We have reached the point where nothing Star Wars made by current year Lucasfilm/Disney is successful anymore. So it’s kind of easy to predict failure, really, really easy. But it’s mainly due to how bad at Star Wars the involved people are and that they by now have set the expectations. Sell Star Wars to i.e. Universal and maybe the total shift in creativity could help to give it another chance, who knows?
yea, it definitely depends on who's making it. The majority of Star Wars shows and movies really only fail due to human error. Honestly, if they could just get the right people to do it i'm positive it could be a success...but they won't get the right people.
It was Lucas who made the Jedi "dull" in his weak, at best, prequels. Before that, the Jedi were awesome characters. Crazy it was the creator of the franchise himself, who ended up ruining it. As for adapting KOTOR, Disney doesn't have the talent and even less, the desire to do SW right. That has been proven time and again, even ending up ruining material that actually had potential, trying and turning it to trash in a heartbeat. Even the current Old Republic material is heavily compromised. They have to go to the Real Tales of the Jedi and KotoR and KotoR 2 for it to have any chance, if done right of course.
In a world where Disney Star Wars is good and they have consistently made good things, or alternatively in a world where Disney never bought Star Wars? Yeah an Old Republic series might be cool. In this timeline though Disney bought Star Wars and has, in the last decade, made about 3 good Star Wars things and about 3 dozen bad ones so no thank you I do no want to see them taint the Old Republic era. It'll happen eventually and I know it and it's a shame but whatever. Disney's Star Wars canon is an abomination and I gave up on it years ago. I just stick around to stay in the know. The only joy I get from modern Star Wars is laughing at how bad it is.
Disney's Old republic is Acolyte and Star Wars Suburbs in Skeleton Crew. Star Wars is forever tainted untill they reboot it, again. Thank God Sam Maggs isn't working on that KOTOR remake anymore
Ignore the occasional dead cat bounce, Disney Star Wars is done, because it appeals neither to kids or mentally mature adults. It has no fanbase. The hardcore fan boys will buy the merch, but that's not nearly enough.
Just watch the cinematics for the old republic mmo, and it's pretty obvious that it would be possible to do something amazing with a show in that era. But I'm completely done with Disney Star Wars except for maybe season 2 of Andor, unless they manage to screw that up too.
I used to love Star Wars. Then Disney happened to it. And I don't just mean the crap stories. I also mean the cowardly route of using ad hominem / strawman attacks when people rightly criticized the poor story telling or how the legacy characters were treated. So, now, I at best don't care, at worst, savor every failure like fine hard cider.
It would fail for two reasons: 1. The people who originally wrote The Old Republic stories and world are no longer part of Lucasfilm. And their new writers simply aren't good (with exception of Aaron Contreras). There is no way they could write The Old Republic well, or with the depth and nuance needed for that era. 2. Lore matters. And The Old Republic was part of the EU. Disney's Star Wars canon lore and story looks NOTHING like the EU's lore and story. It would have to be The Old Republic in-name-only. The characters would be in-name-only. The Old Republic lore CANNOT exist in Disney's canon because their lore is so drastically different. And any changes made to the era to fit Disney's canon lore would be terrible. Unfortunately with Star Wars now, there is NOTHING they can do because it all has to connect back to the awful lore and world building they've crafted.
At this stage in the game, it's better just to let the franchise rest. No more shows or games or anything for at least 5 to 10 years. The good faith that Star Wars once had is all but gone. It's better to start with a blank slate
That's not moral complexity so much as it is moral confusion
Stories like KOTOR are complex because they look ay the Light and Dark sides from multiple angles without the writer taking an absolute stance, they left that up to the audience.
I have a feeling that Revan would be trans😂
As long as Kathleen Kennedy, her entire inner circle, Bob Iger, and the woke are in charge of SW, yes, it would not only fail but insult and middle finger all the fans of the classic games just as the sequel triligoy was just one big middle finger to everyone who grew up and loved the original and prequel trilogies of SW.
At this stage, the problem is that even if they do a great movie, their is no guarantee that the creators aren't going to get mad that we didn't enjoy the proper way and make another joker Fu 2.😅
First they'd have to get people into a cinema to watch the film. I know I sure as hell won't be going to see any new star wars movies.
There's been an absolute deluge of garbage that's washed away any goodwill or attachment.
Smash! (Bastilla would also never canonically have her kid with Revan because, see above)
Mission would be played by Bella Ramsey, or some twiglet Asian with too much unearned attitude; the wookie would be secretly a female.
Revan will be non-binary or something like that.
You can bet Revan will be a gender fluid non white woman in a lesbian relationship with Bastila
I said the same thing that Reven going be either tran or a female that gay and mary sue that a badass
@@SoldierSpiderx yup, putting down Carth every chance they get
It is Current Year, they'd push relations with Mission.
Doomed gay romance between Malak and Revan. Zayne Carrick cameos in one episode.
I’m hoping and praying that they saw the recent US election results and took the hint. Their “modern audience” is only like 10% of the population max and most of them are leftists who don’t pay for entertainment and just pirate it because “tee hee I can’t adult and I’m so poor…”
Sonic 3 should be teaching them that all you have to do is give the real fans what they want. And for Star Wars fans it seems like they want Keanu to play Revan.
Disney has proven to us on multiple occasions that they have a reverse Midas touch. They will absolutely shoehorn their awful agendas or canon into the EU classics they would touch.
I just don't even care anymore, even if by some miracle it ended up being *okay*.
Lightspeed skipping... my god that still makes me irrationally angry. It is so dissonant from Han's monologue in EP.4 that it breaks all immersion.
Star Wars is dead. Can we please just let it go. Just thinking about Disney's trash makes me hateful..
I agree. People are so burnt out with disappointment that it won’t matter what they produce. If it is Disney, no one will risk more disappointment.
😒 I am tired of hearing people parrot the old Birthday Party Clown rallying cry: “Star Wars Is Dead.”
It isn’t dead, but it’s certainly getting the shit beat out of it.
yea...these you tube creators just focus on star wars because of the clicks, likes, and comments.
As long as it’s under Disney’s dispensation then yes. It would
3:03 Ha! wonderful. I haven't heard sarcasm that deep since SNL Jeopardy: "write any animal. it can be a donkey, or a puppy, how about a nice little cat? Just write an animal..." they are just going to put a chick in it and make it lame and gay
The story of Revan is so beloved; if Disney gets that wrong, there really is no future for Star Wars.
Get Sam Witwer on it, or in it. The guy is legendary. He has more knowledge about it than anyone I can think of. And he's probably the most humble guy ever. I have no doubt he could do Old Republic in the absolute best and most faithful way.
Disney wouldn’t allow him any creative freedom.
Actually, you might need to hire guys who aren't just humble but who can also hold their ground and be confrontational. Otherwise, they'll end up accepting the propagandists' demands.
@@thibaldus3 exactly
@@thibaldus3 i believe you are correct. disney wants the wokeness because if they don't push the narrative, then they won't get the billions of government (taxpayers) dollars every year. Yes, disney gets billions of dollars every year and that is why they will never go out of business. We are giving them money whether we watch their content or not. look it up.
Drew Karpyshyn and Chris Avellone would be good to get on it, since they wrote KOTOR 1 and 2 respectively.
They need to earn the right to make a star wars movie
And they don’t have any right to at all at the moment.
very well said.
At this point I think anything SW will fail. We need a break and a good come back.
And get rid of everyone involved with Acolyte.
People thought that before Mando dropped, and it did quite well.
Would it?
Yes. Under Disney and under Lucasfilm like it is now with Darth Kennedy in charge, it would fail harder than Acolyte and Skeleton Crew.
5:02 - True reason they can't admit their stories are crap because it would hurt share value and hurt the shareholders
The people that actually matter, admitting fault and declaring their taking a new direction would cause too much uncertainty
with disney's track record and trends in casting and writing and resulting apathy? that's all that is needed.
If made by Disney, botch it they would.
Yep 💯
Fear I do, further destruction does Darth Kennedy bring
Keanu Reaves for Revan
Big budget TV shows don’t make sense in the streaming world. There is too much competition so it can’t guarantee the return to justify the money spent
It SHOULDN’T fail, but it COULD. Put it in the hands of the right crappy production team, and they could ruin the hell out of it.
The Expanded Universe wouldn’t have been as popular if it hadn’t been mostly focused on the OT characters while SLOWLY building up new characters. Without them most people wouldn’t have cared
If Ray Stevenson had lived, and they picked someone better than Rosario... It might've had a chance
There is no way we will ever get decent Star Wars from Disney until Kathleen Kennedy is gone. As long as she is there, she will insist that her agenda be forced into everything.
Rather have nothing then trash.
They could get KEANU and would still fuck it up.
Nobody at Disney Lucasfilm would be able to do the Old Republic era justice. They even made their own special era called The High Republic, and even that was no good as evidenced by how the acolyte turned out.
Mad when you think the sixteen years between Ep VI and Ep I couldn't kill the fandom, but Disney managed it with a decade of mass content.
@Senkoau sure maybe.
There's been too much bad Star wars that when good Star wars comes along most off us aren't even bothering with it.
(article paraphrased) "It would cost too much per episode to film, and do it with the proper spectacle in the stories..."
Or you could...animate it. 2D animation, even. Western audiences will still bite if you do it anime style-which, going by the numbers for the most expensive anime TV series to date, would cost... _155 times less_ per episode than The Acolyte.
KOTOR and SWOTR has some of the best, most nuanced interpretation of the Force I've yet to see in current day Star Wars. Perhaps barring Fallen Order.
Keanu Reeves would be a great Revan!!!!
Not under Disney though.
he will never be cast for any role by disney. They don't like him.
@ that’s true

No star wars series has succeeded, why would an old republic themed one be different?
Something something Fan Nostalgia
Yes. Even if by some miracle it would be good, like with Andor or Skeleton Crew, the amount of crap Disney has shoveled out over the years has viewers burnt out. Acolyte was the final nail in the coffin
EVERYTHING DISNEY WILL FAIL...so say we ALL!!! 🙌🏾
Only, ever. If the swtor team was in charge to to bottom. Also just do a mini series that like 3 eps. Done
So long as Disney has ownership of Star Wars, everything they do around the franchise, will fail.
Pattern recognition says yes, it will fail
Far as I’m concerned, I never wanna see an Old Republic TV show or movie until Lucasfilm gets a major shake up. I have zero confidence it will ever make any good stories until the people in charge start focusing on writing good stories again. Not the garbage we’ve been getting for the past few years
Or just make an animation. Like the SWTOR cinematics.
I think they can do both. The Old Republic is such a long period with many stories to tell and it’s so far removed from the rest of SW history that it feels like its own pocket universe. You can do 20 years worth of films, tv shows, animated spin offs, etc.
Its joever the time to strike was during the rey saga but KK wanted to watch the world burn
A true adaptation would be amazing, I just don't trust Disney to do it right.
It would fail. Disney won't do it any justice. They'll bastardize it and trash it, like they have everything else Star Wars.
Until Disney sells Lucusfilm, star wars will not recover.
I genuinely don't want them to do it because I know that somehow Disney will ruin it
If the Jedi being dogmatic is an issue - just do what Dune:Prophecy did and show the Jedi as less formal/dogmatic...still having emotions etc...after all the Order developed over time, the Jedi in the prequels were meant to be dogmatic, atrophied in their thinking and overconfident, sure they had all the answers
It will fail because the creators still are the same and did not get fired yet. So Star Wars is not prio one but woke, feminisme and DEI agenda is prio one.
Honestly I'm not even sure that's the case. It's just sheer incompetence across the board.
Yes. Done by Disney? Kathleen Kennedy? Dave I Pick And Choose What Legends Lore I Want To Cannibalize Filoni? Yes.
Depends on who's in charge. I thought the first season of The Mandalorian was good.
They have to go to the Real Tales of the Jedi and KotoR and KotoR 2 for it to have any chance, if done right of course.
but then they'd have to pay royalties for the adaption
Darth Kennedy will fall down the Death Star reactor.
Good points all around, from you I mean.
If the current people at Lucasart/Disney were to touch it it would turn to shit.
It would fail for two reasons:
