The keyboard player (Ian Peres) is actually a friend of mine who I used to play in bands with back in the day. He invited me to the show when Kasey came to my town. So I saw this song live and it was quite epic.
I have never had my jaw drop for so long as I did in the climax of this rendition of the already iconic song. Like holy crap, the build-up from start to finish was nothing but absolute brilliance. Talk about redefining a song that was already close to perfect in its original form.
it's sad that you people are so superficial you hear rap and you don't listen to the poetry, now you get it in rock form and you appreciate it. That's called shallow. Care about the content, not the form it comes in. Yes there's a lot of terrible rap, but that goes for anything, it's on you to look deeper.
Saw her perform this at Bluesfest. The tent was mesmerised and in awe of her talent. But what struck me more than that was her humility. So much talent, so much success and yet so much gratitude and respect.
She should release this. Its the best song , I`ve heard this year. The best cover. The best performance. She is amazing. What a performance. I`ve got chills.
That was insanely good. Goosebumps and tears here from me riding that rollercoaster as it built up to the end. So much raw, unapologetic emotion. Have you ever seen someone rock a banjo that hard? Amazing.
There's something magical about hearing a song you've heard 1,000 times done so original, so different, so raw and emotional, that it's like you've just heard it for the first time. I always thought Eminem was a phenomenal lyricist, but Kasey made sure every line was packed with pain, sorrow, regret, anger, rage...even optimism. I stumbled upon this song and like everyone else that started watching, I thought, "Is she covering this with a banjo?" and by the end holding back tears, completely blown away. I heard that even Eminem gave her the thumbs up to share this and profit. Can you imagine writing this song, winning a Grammy and an Academy Award, and then hearing another artist cover it and do this much justice? Bravo Kasey. I'm a fan.
OK so Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, maybe Joe Cocker's cover of With a Little Help From my Friends and this. This is one of the greatest cover versions of any song. Ever.
Captivated. Everyone's talking about this one Kasey. The reactors are going nuts over it. M's gonna be in touch for sure ,probably has already. Loved it. Reckon you've cemented yourself as the Queen songstress of Aus. Fucksake your brilliant, haunting, mesmerising.
Millions! Millions, people! That's what the views counter should show. The fact it doesn't, blows my mind as much as this masterful rendition. Bravo, Kasey! 🤯🔥🔥👏👏👏💐
Couple of reasons...... 1. It's a theatre with very steep seating. 2. The audience were told it was being recorded at the mixing desk for a live performance track & to please keep their "enthusiasm" in check during the actual song.....which is why the go off at the end.
I was at this concert the theatre has the most amazing acoustics and everyone was just in awe of the music and the song it was like you had never e heard the lyrics before but knew every word at the same time.
Casey, What ride. I heard this for the first time last night - lying on my bed after yet another exhausting nursing shift. I was so wired, I listened/watched it about 20 times, 1st reactions to see the way others reacted. The time kept get later and later with me knowing I have to get up in 8 hours, 7 hours, 6, 5 4! I bloody love it. Got home from another shift, listening/watching again. My heart bangs out of my chest each time! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
@Celtic_Thylacine I can't believe that took a year. It should have been 1M in a week. This song is so well done, even Eminem gave permission for her to put it up on Spotify
I didn't know who Ms. Chambers was before I saw this on The Charismatic Voice -- I'm now trying to find any more performances or her released work that I can find, especially the live performances. I'm from Detroit, very close to where Marshall grew up. He actually opened for the group my friends had going at the time (obviously before he met Dre, we were all around 18-20 at the time) to where I've met him a few times, and I'm sure even he is blown away by how she covered this song. This is one of the most powerful performances I've ever seen.
We love Kasey's work down here but I believe this just amplifies how great both artists truly are. I still watch this with absolute amazement on Kaseys rendition.
Why doesn't this have millions of views?? This has to be 1 of the best covers I've ever heard!! I love em but this blows the original out the water!! 🔥 🔥
I was fortunate enough to see Kasey do this amazing rendition, August 2022 Mundi Mundi Bash. Absolutely mind blown! 35yrs of seeing live music and her performance will be forever etched in my mind as the most phenomenal 'give it all you've got' performance. Brilliant!!
I know it's months since this was put up but with the more recent spike in reactions to this video, I along many others were introduced to you. As a very old rocker Country was never my scene and Rap even less so. I can't say this has made me a county fan or a rap fan but it has made me a Kasey fan, absolute brilliance and the video method was inspired. Thank you Kasey, finally something that shows these ridiculous TV music shows (like The Voice) that being able to sing is not the only talent, being able to create it or reinterpret it and arrange it and perform it is.. Thanks for the experience.
@@nealcassady1189 And perhaps you can't understand English. I said I am not a country fan in reference to Kasey being known as a country style singer. At no stage did I call this song in particular "Country". I am well aware that it is anything but "country" as I said get a grip or perhaps loosen the hold.
3 days ago - first time hearing - on my 20th, 25th, more - shattered beyond expression - watched multiple reactions to recapture, through joy/confusion, of a first time :: thank you Kasey Chambers for being
Speechless. I've just now found this video & I've never seen anything so beautiful & raw, amplified; so in the moment and alive. Empowering. I have goosebumps. The Aussie Goddess of Country music, rocking out a banjo through a rap song; just broke, shattered genres; made it her own; owned the very moment; and captivated the entire room with the most amazing perfomance, supported by the most amazing lineup of musos with her. Kasey - beautiful. Thank you for having this video made, so those of us who missed this could watch it. Time stood still for me. That's not an overstatement. You captured my heart, all over again. :)
Unbelievable. It started on a high note, and continued to ascend throughout the entire song. I knew Kasey Chambers was incredible, but wow, this is something else!
Kasey never disappoints live. I saw her perform this at the Gold Coast and it was next level. Atmosphere was indescribable, amazing shared experience for everyone in the room. Unforgettable
Kasey really said "I'm gonna take the most iconic song of an entire genre and twist it to its polar opposite, and it'll sound good and true to the original" and just DID IT - because why the heck not! :D ...are you insane, girl? 😂❤🔥
I was prepared to say nope when I first heard the banjo. This song couldn’t be great sung in this type of genre. I would be horribly wrong. It’s absolutely brilliant. It completely blew me away. The best cover of one of his songs ever. Wow That’s all I have to say right now. Very emotionally driven and sung so incredibly well. It also highlights just how great Em’s lyrics are as well. Edit: Of course I liked and subscribed right after I found your channel. I heard it today on a reaction video.
Only found this last week, if this cover was on tape I'd have stretched and scrambled the cassette by now the number of times I've listened to it. Kasey you done good 👍 it's blowing up the interwebs! I get chills every time I hear this🤟🇦🇺❄️ Sometimes forget how much talent we Aussies have. Rock on mylady.....
@@JohnTravena the clip is made of fans recording her performing this song for the first time.. Kasey’s team didn’t have a clip for it, but when they realised how good it was, Kasey got on social media and asked fans to send in the footage they shot on their phones, then pieced together the clip from that. I like it, it gives a personal feel to it.. it’s raw and it works.
@@cyclone2515 No - it wasn't for the 1st time. The debut was at the Wildflower Festival in the Yarra Valley (Victoria) Marsh 2022....then it was the encore song at every show during her Behind the Barricades tour throughout May 2022 - THIS was the 17th & last night of the tour - the song had been so well received - "they" decided to record it as a live track at the mixing desk....after hearing the playback they were kicking themselves for not filming it - THAT'S when Kasey sent out the request to fans for footage.
Watched in blissful awe as Kasey preformed this at Bluesfest 2022! Absolutely gave it everything and the crowd knew we had felt every note of true artistry 🎶 Kasey is insane live. Seen her several times, but this moment at Byron was something special to behold!
Please do not call this a cover. That is simplistic for this masterpiece. This is a complete deconstruction and rebuild into, what has to be the most incredible musical experience I have felt in a very very long time.Your use of dynamics.. both with your voice and the band help bring your audience on a once in a lifetime journey. I have so much more to say but I need to freaking listen again... for at least the 40th time. Thank you so much!
as a massive eminem fan, but also loving a wide spectrum of music as well as a guitar player and songwriter.. this was done to perfection of the style and tone of Kasey (especially as a LIVE performance rather than an edited recording). It also made me realise how much the words play a part to a song, and I'v been throwing on old karaoke tracks and doing the same thing with a lot of other Eminem songs and I'm amazed how many of his songs in particular can completely change when the words are sung in a slow deep melodic style. I hope i see more of this pleasant surprise.
I've watched over a hundred reaction reviews of this performance and all reviewers get goose bumps. Many are left speechless. A stunning performance that is without peer. Love your unique style Kasey.
today is the first time I heard this cover.... Kasey has really shown justice to Em’s writing skills, often time, most dont realize the depth of what is written....and say Em is trash.... this cover pierces my soul....WTF it I opens wounds that I thought were healed... thank ya Kasey.... this is a very special cover, I got lost in the music, and I wont let it go
Exquisite! Kasey is a very rare raw, rough diamond strung with gritty pearls, beaded with black tourmaline and woven elegantly with silver and gold! Someone to be treasured not just as the true Aussie she is but as a global angel 🙏✨
Holy shit! We know Em is an incredible lyricist, and this is one of his best songs ever. But the spin Kasey put on this, the raw storytelling of her version is a fucking masterpiece! This is the first time I've heard of her, and I'm so happy that I found this. I'm definitely a fan now! The word amazing doesn't even begin to describe this version. ❤
No one could have put a better spin on or even had the balls to attempt doing an Eminem song with such authenticity as this gal. What heart and soul! A beautiful voice as well! 💕
Holy shit. And with that banshee howl at the end, Kasey leaves her heart on the floor of the Civic Theatre and (judging by these rad comments) has torn ours out to keep it company. Revisiting this clip and it's still one of the.fucking.fiercest performances I've ever seen. The build, the drop, the climb, the desperation and grief and compassion she brings to this song... what a maven. And the band! That wailing screeching slide guitar trading blows with the electric as the entire band goes swamp deep and carries the whole rodeo home. Stellar.
I perchance had this come up in my feed, so I watched it again. I have to say that her band are crazy good in this as well. That lap steel is just insane at the frenzy at the back half of the performance.
Two of my favorite musicians, but I had to hear it to believe it. As someone who grew-up around musicians and being one myself, I'm rarely shocked with a performance. I'm blown away. 🌼🌸

Care about the content, not the form it comes in. Yes there's a lot of terrible rap, but that goes for anything, it's on you to look deeper.
My tears are flowing. So powerful...
How does this not even have 1million views in over a year. This should have 10million+ by now.
Who would have ever guessed that if you mixed a folk singer and her band with a rapper this is what you would get. We need more of this. Please🙏
She has. It's out on the streaming platforms :)
I got chills too...and they're multiplyin'
That’s electrifying
That was insanely good. Goosebumps and tears here from me riding that rollercoaster as it built up to the end. So much raw, unapologetic emotion. Have you ever seen someone rock a banjo that hard? Amazing.
Ditto!!!
I'm a fan.
@keithautrey "...and by the end holding back tears, completely blown away." Yes++ Kasey's work really does that. She's one of a kind.
OK so Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, maybe Joe Cocker's cover of With a Little Help From my Friends and this. This is one of the greatest cover versions of any song. Ever.
I thought of Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt myself.
Honestly the most underrated cover of all time
Oh my effing God, what did I just watch! I have tears in my eyes, my jaw literally dropped! I'm so proud to be Aussie right now, stunning❤
How in the heck are people sitting down by the end of this. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This is ABSOLUTE FIRE
Couple of reasons......
1. It's a theatre with very steep seating.
2. The audience were told it was being recorded at the mixing desk for a live performance track & to please keep their "enthusiasm" in check during the actual song.....which is why the go off at the end.
Watching a singer that just pours out raw emotion, that puts all of themselves into something. Stunning :)
I was at this concert the theatre has the most amazing acoustics and everyone was just in awe of the music and the song it was like you had never e heard the lyrics before but knew every word at the same time.
Holy fuck! Now that is a monster! That’s sticking your fist down your throat and dragging out every bit of angst and venting it, right there. Bravo!
And using it for motivation at the same time.
AMEN
Casey, What ride. I heard this for the first time last night - lying on my bed after yet another exhausting nursing shift. I was so wired, I listened/watched it about 20 times, 1st reactions to see the way others reacted. The time kept get later and later with me knowing I have to get up in 8 hours, 7 hours, 6, 5 4! I bloody love it. Got home from another shift, listening/watching again. My heart bangs out of my chest each time! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I have played this over and over..her interpretation of this makes it her own...
soo much passion
How does this not have millions of views yet??? This is a masterpiece. She took an already legendary song and somehow made it better.
some people ears are different, but for me this is so good.
If you add up all the reactions done for this song then I feel it would easily top the million views.
Don't worry, will be getting there. 680k so far, and counting.
Now it does
@Celtic_Thylacine I can't believe that took a year. It should have been 1M in a week. This song is so well done, even Eminem gave permission for her to put it up on Spotify
I thought I'd listen to a minute or so but then 8 mins later think I might go again
Absolutely mind blowing. Love it when Kasey lets the band off the leash & turns everything up to 11.
And her Dad too
Her song 'rattling bones' was in a American western show. She is an awesome Australian singer we have many
It’s a bit poppy but I love “like a river” also her cover of “true colours” and her original “am I not pretty enough” are all absolutely banging.
Ain't no little girl 😝🤘
Another autobio Kasey song dripping with power/rage/conviction/heart
❤️🔥💔❤️🔥
Why doesn't this have millions of views?? This has to be 1 of the best covers I've ever heard!! I love em but this blows the original out the water!! 🔥 🔥
I was fortunate enough to see Kasey do this amazing rendition, August 2022 Mundi Mundi Bash.
Absolutely mind blown! 35yrs of seeing live music and her performance will be forever etched in my mind as the most phenomenal 'give it all you've got'
performance.
@@nealcassady1189 I don't believe I called this country in my comment. Get a grip
@@nealcassady1189 And perhaps you can't understand English. I said I am not a country fan in reference to Kasey being known as a country style singer. At no stage did I call this song in particular "Country". I am well aware that it is anything but "country" as I said get a grip or perhaps loosen the hold.
I have always adored Kasey and her music, but this is absolutely a masterpiece!
I'm late to this, but... this song I've heard 1,000 times, she just made me hear it for the first time.
3 days ago - first time hearing - on my 20th, 25th, more - shattered beyond expression - watched multiple reactions to recapture, through joy/confusion, of a first time
:: thank you Kasey Chambers for being
...are you insane, girl? 😂❤🔥
What makes this special is her son is lead guitar and her father is on the slide guitar
No. What makes it special is her performance.
That’s actually so cool! Their jam sessions must be insane. Living the dream
Our sons have the same name, total coincidence.
I cant stip listening to this.
What a powerful performance.
I have lost count of how many times I have watched this video and I never get tired of it. Best music ever.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned this but the sound quality in this is amazing. The sound engineer did a phenomenal job ❤
I saw her perform this live in a club in a small country town in Australia, and the sound was exactly the same. She was AMAZING.
Noticed that too - the video quality was poor (probably intentionally so) and I wasn’t expecting high fidelity.
@@cyclone2515 Oh, that’s cool! It didn’t bother me cause the audio is great. 👍
The build up from soft to that raw rocky crescendo is incredible!!
Haunting and beautiful!!
Slowed down like this just goes to show how much of a word smith em is!! Unbelievable!! And I really enjoyed this version as well 👍
Goosebumps! Kasey Chambers!
I came here directly after having just seen a reaction video to this performance. I'm still buzzing from those spine tingling vocals. Wow! Just. WOW!
I know I've watched this at least 50 times. Doesn't get better than this! The emotion..I felt the whole thing!! Just WOW! This is SO good!!!!
Pure artistry, one of Australia's finest.
Wow the build up ... Amazing performance ... I can't wait for Eminem's comment on this masterpiece
Watched in blissful awe as Kasey preformed this at Bluesfest 2022! Absolutely gave it everything and the crowd knew we had felt every note of true artistry 🎶 Kasey is insane live. Seen her several times, but this moment at Byron was something special to behold!
I have only listed to this 45 times so far . I would say it's quite good lol. Possible the best cover of all time.
It's a cover. Just because you got your undies in a bunch "40 times" isn't a reason to regard it as anything other than what it is.
@@billsilcott9692*cough..*cough..
killjoy! *cough.. 🙄😮💨
It's like calling Sinead's Nothing Compares a cover of Prince. She made it hers!
@@billsilcott9692 You crying billy boy?
You must have really blown the minds of the audience because that absolutely deserved a full standing ovation 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
as a massive eminem fan, but also loving a wide spectrum of music as well as a guitar player and songwriter.. this was done to perfection of the style and tone of Kasey (especially as a LIVE performance rather than an edited recording).
It also made me realise how much the words play a part to a song, and I'v been throwing on old karaoke tracks and doing the same thing with a lot of other Eminem songs and I'm amazed how many of his songs in particular can completely change when the words are sung in a slow deep melodic style. I hope i see more of this pleasant surprise.
why would his songs need to change, and why are you amazed. Are you that shallow?
That was unbelievable. Im in complete awe. Teary eyes. Goosebumps all over. That was one of the best performances I've ever seen
Man, I've been sleeping on Kasey. This was...this was something else man.
I've watched over a hundred reaction reviews of this performance and all reviewers get goose bumps. Many are left speechless. A stunning performance that is without peer. Love your unique style Kasey.
You absolutely SLAYED this song!!! 🙌🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 👏👏👏👏
This is the feeling I’ve always gotten from this song and never known it. Amazing. Breath taking
Wow... incredible. I haven't had a song bring up that much emotion in a long time. Did not expect that.
today is the first time I heard this cover....
Every single fucking hair on my body just stood upright.....I'm not sure they'll come back down either.....AMAZING AMAZING!!!!! 🤯
Wow...Best Eminem Cover I have ever heard!!
About damn time this hit a million views
It's blowing up now
@ I think that everyone needs to see this at least once!
I think half of these views are mine
That’s how I feel. I watch it at least once a day still.
Goosebumps! She really pulled out the emotional tone of the original track. Mind = 🤯
No one could have put a better spin on or even had the balls to attempt doing an Eminem song with such authenticity as this gal. What heart and soul! A beautiful voice as well! 💕
I can't stop watching this 😍 My favourite live performance ever.
Longtime fan of Kasey... this might be the best thing I've seen of hers. So haunting and emotional.
Now all we need is for Eminem to do a cover of "Not pretty enough"
lol
😂😂I need that for sure!
Now, that, is something I would like to see too!
She is phenomenal live. I have seen her and the audience were just mesmerized then went nuts when she finished and stood up roaring.
You’ve got to be kidding me. What a fucking amazing amazing performance. Those vocals. Janis lives. We’re not worthy
Wait until you hear Eminem’s cover of not pretty enough.
I thought of Janis too!
I'm a stan and she killed it. Love it love you. She did this masterpiece justice.
She SMASHED IT! she took Em's Lyrics and brought it to a whole new level!
Stellar.
Well said!
I perchance had this come up in my feed, so I watched it again. I have to say that her band are crazy good in this as well. That lap steel is just insane at the frenzy at the back half of the performance.
This was a fantastic performance. You gave an Oscar winning song, an Oscar winning performance.
Two of my favorite musicians, but I had to hear it to believe it. As someone who grew-up around musicians and being one myself, I'm rarely shocked with a performance. I'm blown away. 🌼🌸
This is beyond amazing! Wooooooooh!! And I am a big fan of the original..But she made it her own! Pure artist ❤
I saw Kasey Sing this Live in Tasmania last weekend at The Red Hot Summer Tour - Beyond AMAZING!!!👏👏👏💪🇦🇺
🤯 Wow!! ❤ I can’t wait for my opportunity to get to see her live!! Much love from Colorado, USA 🤠👍
This performance gave me the chills, especially when the full band kicked in at the 4:17. And her singing was phenomenal!
