It is certainly an understandable reason, but nowadays, reprise in the middle is based on footwork. Given Gigi's genuine confusion and Kim's relief (but then again Kim always does that after he wins), it looks like they both thought that the trend is changing to emphasising footwork too. But hey, it's a Korean fencing in Korea, similar calls have happened everywhere else, certainly when Italians fence in Italy. Sometimes you just have to accept that fencing is unfair in almost every aspect
