Why I LOVE The CRF300L.. | Bikes & Beer Ep. 1

  • The more I ride this CRF300L, the more I fall in love with it. In my eyes it is the perfect Dual Sport. With its low maintenance intervals, usable and adequate power, this entry level machine is more capable than most would expect, and in today's video we show just that. I battle my way through a slate covered creek bed to reach a secluded location where I set the camera down and crack a cold one to further talk about the bike and a few other commonly asked questions.
    We are switching things up today with a more sit-down style / Podcast format and introduce a new potential series called Bikes & Beer. Today we try out the BrewDog Hazy Jane IPA, in my eyes a lot of Indian Pale Ale's taste similar and although this was nothing special in my eyes, it was VERY refreshing.
    Let me know what beers I should try next!

    In 1980, I took a XR500R and rode up the side of a mountain and down the other side...in Montana, through snow and wilderness. There is something about conquering the wilderness on a bike... you feel like a cowboy on a horse....a very fast horse.

    Honestly loved the talking section. It felt real and like a connection of thoughts that are never given the time to be said because of the trying to meet an "invisible entertainment quota" TH-cam itself has created... It felt real and honest, I liked the ride talk. Ride some more and discovery style. Would defiantly look forward to another like this.

    I have owned the 450L and the 650L and even the Africa Twin. The power of the 450L was awesome. The delivery of the 650L was much better as well as the maintenance but it was really tall and top heavy. Africa Twin just wasn’t what I needed at the time. But a fantastic bike. Currently have a semi dual sport Grom and a Monkey that never gets ridden. Next bike is going back to true dual sport but something with low maintenance. Probably next year. I think it’s going to be the 300L after watching you. Just something to get off-road when I want with low maintenance and high reliability.

I get where you're coming from as out there on one's own, lots of times I park it and check the trail ahead, and like you said, if I had continued on the bike, instead of walking, I would be in a bad situation. Hi friend. I am an enthusiastic owner of crf 300l, a bike with which I do practically everything, from travel to enduro, even technical. I am fully satisfied with it. Gradually, I will make some changes to improve the chassis, starting with the suspension. I just bought one of these and the downside of this bike is the stock rear shock. I've heard good things about upgrading to a YSS $400 shock. Honda dropped the ball and should've put fully adjustable suspension on the 300L straight from the factory. The bike sucks off road.

    • @awatts222
      @awatts222 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to go to a race shop a drop $1800cad for front and back. They said I would be disappointed with the standard YSS without the external resovoir . So I went with racetech like the KTM boys. Cartridges in the front, the whole nine. The bike was un-rideable for me personally. I actually broke the stock fronts.

    • @Jayswensonjr
      @Jayswensonjr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A shop will tell you whatever is necessary to sell product. I've heard the YSS shock is fine, but if you want the best shock on the market with fulll adjustability, and have the money to spend, go for it. I would've bought an KTM or something if I wanted a full blown dirt bike. Not spending that kind of money on a duel sport.

    • @Jayswensonjr
      @Jayswensonjr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done it yet, but will probably buy the shock without the cartridge. The front shock isn't as big of an issue as the rear and may just replace the spring.
      I wish Honda would've given the bike full adjustability straight from the factory like the KLX300. I kind of have buyer's remorse simply because the suspension sucks from the factory.

      @AdventureDaily  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how heavy you are but I am pushing 200 with gear and it has been fine for me. Is it soft, yes but so are all other Dual Sports out there, most bikes you have to upgrade the suspension so for me I was expecting it.

    Great video, thank you. I am on the fence about getting this bike. I actually want it for my wife to learn on but also something I can have some fun with. I do a lot of adventure riding on my Triumph with mostly basic to intermediate dirt trails. The 300 would allow me to do things a bit more technical and won't hurt the wallet as badly if I drop it or crash. Would you recommend the 300?

      They don’t offer black plastics yet but for me I wouldn’t do it, they get scratched easily and lose their shine fast.

    I got an email from IMS today regarding the 300. Probably have a 3.5 g available by early next year.
    BTW I just bought a 300L today to go along with the Rally I got in May.
    The goal is to take each bike in opposite directions.

    Where you live is it pretty flat? If so how do you "find" spots to ride? Main thing i hate going off the beatn path is those huge mounds hidden in the grass, bucks me around. Just curious, thanks!

    • @AdventureDaily
      @AdventureDaily  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes nothing but Farmland out here but if you look hard enough you can find spots like this, usually I just ride around and look, especially by rivers where the land ownership is kind of grey area because I don’t like blasting down someone’s property. But yes I know what you mean that actually happened to me yesterday and will be in tomorrow’s video haha. Huge hole ate my front tire.

    Most IPAs taste like hairspray - I do enjoy a select few though.
    I went with the AXP plastic one with the linkage guard and not real impressed with how the rear guard mounted up. Contemplating trying something different.

    How do you like this compared to the DRZ400? Is there a big difference in perceived weight? This bike looks super fun and I like the more modern features. I have a DRZ but that thing feels so heavy sometimes, and I'm not a small guy. Am I crazy to sell the DRZ for this bike? Or is it too similar?

    is the front end on the 300l any slimmer because i rode a 250l the other day and didnt like how it sat and where my knees are im 6' 4" and have size 15 feet and i have a 2019 dr200 so the front end is slim because its just air cooled compared to the Honda's with a single radiator on one side

    Is it really the same motor from the CBR300? I've also heard that it is a completely new motor and they just took the old CRF250 motor and made some modifications by lengthening the stroke and increasing the displacement by 36ccs. Can't get a straight answer on the forums. Who knows.
