Made 25 bags as a surprise for our Inner Wheel members in Alcester, as it’s our last meeting on Tuesday as the club is closing. I found it easier to press the popper together gently, then use the tool to fasten them properly. At least this way it was less fiddly trying to get gather the fabric up & use the tool to fasten. Each bag different. Thank you Debbie.😊
Your tote bag is lovely. It was interesting the way you stitched the bag, so no open seam on the inside. Also, the way you did the ends of the straps. It look so neat. Thank you very much.
Love the bag. Plastic bags from the grocery are no longer used. You must bring your own or buy one of theirs. So this is wonderful. Thank you. Love your tutorials! From New York/Pennsylvania USA. I live near the border of NY.
Just made my first one of these (there will be more!) I used a sew on magnetic bag fastener. I think next time I might use velcro dots. And when putting the handles on instead of glue I used a small piece of hemming web which worked really well. Thanks for the demo.
I am looking for a first project for my 10 year old granddaughter who wants me to teach her how to sew. This one looks like a great first project for her. It will also teach her how to do a clean inside seam; what I would call a French seam. We plan to make some Christmas presents for the family. Thanks Debbie.
So cute. Looks very simple to make I like the French seam and no lining 🙂🙂 however I've never used the poppers. Looks similar to eyes and noses for stuffed animals. I have lots of those lol I think I'll make this one using sewable velcro I have on hand. Thank you for sharing another great project Debbie ❤️
Thank you for this, I have now made 3 and as a beginner I find it an easy make. 2 comments: I'm only using thin cotton (a repurposed sheet) which folds up really well, but I agree it needs some reinforcement behind the press stud fittings on the body of the bag, the first I made and have used to show people the idea is going to tear before too long as the press studs are hard to pull apart. Will try gluing a small piece in place. Secondly, I have found that if I measure and fit where the popper goes on the flap, it is easier simply to use that to make an indentation on the body of the bag front and back, and use that to place the other fitting accurately (maybe I'm just really bad at measuring 🤣). I hope to sell the bags as a fund raiser for a charity we support here in Tenerife. Sorry for the long message and thanks again for all of your wonderful tutorials.
I thought I had a popper set like yours but it was a nightmare to use. Metal and sharp and I couldn’t always get it to work and when it did it had sharp bits sticking out 😱 I saw how yours were working out and you explained it very well. So I decided to look again and found the right ones. What a difference, so easy to use and stress free 😅 My bags look lovely and people I’ve shown them to love them. Thanks again for sharing 🥰😅🥰
I love this bag. I will make these for gifts. Soon our state (New Jersey.USA) we will be eliminating plastic bags. These cloth bags are eco friendly. I can use all my fabruc.
I am going to use magnetic clasps since we do not have poppers here. Will that work? Also will velcro work? Love the bag. Going to use the Harry Potter fat quarter and make it for my daughter. She loves HP. Will use the garden fabric fat quarter for me.
I love this one! I was looking at the books on Amazon but I'm sad there isn't a Title page or anything to see what's inside each book. Do you have that information somewhere and I just missed it? Thank you!
This is a great bag, I have the eco friendly book and have made many items from it. The seams on the bag however are FRENCH seams, not princess seams. Princess seams are curved bodice seams.
I am a bit late to this party and am making a load of these for a fundraiser. However, the placement of the popper on the back of the bag (for the foldaway) at 7" down from the top of the bag seems to be wrong when I fold three times. Have I got this wrong?
@@debbieshore OMG....I bought an elna when I was 13 yrs old. It used disc's for fancy stitches & I used it for over 40 yrs. It was the top of the line until recently. Loved that machine....
What's wrong with Princess seams? Everything I've learned about sewing has come from Debbie so I only know her techniques and terminology. (And I wish I'd known about princess seams when I was making bread bags for Christmas presents)
@@woosterzmom4384 Absolutely nothing wrong with princess seams, it's just that sweet Debbie meant french seams. And she made the same little oops on the live. This wasn't meant in a bad way, totally not. I love Debbie Shore, watched her videos for years. If I could, I would have joined her Halfyard Sewing club and buy all her books.
Hi Debbie, great bag. I've made one, but it's quite small are the measurements correct for the main fabric? Going to make another but will play with sizes. X
I can’t find my eco book - I HAD IT YESTERDAY! - but I want to make one of these tonight. Please could someone send me the measurements for the flap fabric? I’ve remembered the rest. What a twit I am. THANK YOU
When I'm sewing other things I put on any of your videos it doesn't matter which one just because I find you voice so relaxing thank you

You have some great ideas!
Love this design as the bag stays reasonable neat. The ones you tuck into themselves can look creased! Thank you Debbie

Thanks so much for this tutorial. These bags are so handy and easy to make.
Thank you Debbie , going to make some of these bags as Christmas gifts for some friends.
Great idea for a gift too, thanks Debbie !!
I love that fabric! Thanks for the tutorial.
I think I would use small squares of interfacing to reinforce the popper closures. This would also make a gift bag that would be useful after.
Can’t wait to try this. Thank you for sharing 🥰🙏🥰

Hi I got that book from amazon it came today. Also got 2 other books too that came today.
Do you have a video for the ironing/cutting mat cover? I love your videos!
This one is on my website…
Hi yes I agree I ve always known this as a French seam too
Very nice bag
Hi
Will this work if I use webbjng for my straps please Debbie ?? X
Absolutely!

Could I be able to put a handle or a tag with a swivel clip on? Where abouts should I put it near the near the handles, debbie x 7.30 pm

Sorry, I did get the name wrong!

Looks lovely. I have the book. I thought the seam as seen and sewn is a French seam, am I confused?
Nope, for some reason I called it a princess seam! Apologies!
What size are the pieces of the fabric?
looks great project but have i missed the dimensions of the component pieces?
You haven’t missed them. They are in the description. 😉
Love it ❤
Debbie what kind of machine are you sewing on? Looking at a new machine for myself!. Thanks
This ones an Elna 560
@@debbieshore OMG....I bought an elna when I was 13 yrs old. It used disc's for fancy stitches & I used it for over 40 yrs. It was the top of the line until recently. Loved that machine....
Could put a swivel clip on there to have it on your keys or purse
I don't have a popper kit could I use a press stud instead
You certainly could!
Can I line this bag
A great bag. If you make a bigger size do you need to make a bigger flap?
No, but you may need to reposition the poppers…
@@debbieshore I was thinking that same thing. I guess you would just fold over an extra fold? I was thinking of using fat quarters.
What are poppers??
Plastic press studs….
@@dotlaing1085 what do they look like?
Here we have 'princess seams' again.....😊
Oops….

I would love to have this book! How long to ship to Canada? Can I get a digital version?
There is no digital version I’m afraid, we can ship to Canada but it costs about £50 do is really expensive, do you use Amazon?
@@debbieshore, 🤦🏼♀️ That never even occurred to me to check Amazon! Thank you!
Love the blouse you're wearing. Is it one you made or can you reference a pattern for it? Looks elegant and comfortable.
That I bought from Phase Eight, glad you like it!
Would magnetic snaps work?
I don’t see why not!
Wonderful! 😀🤘🏼
Very nice
Thank you!!
Love the material! Is it available in your shop? Thank you.
It certainly is!
Is it 14.5 inch wide or length ? Great bag will definitely be making some of these . Thankyou for another great project xx
Is 14.5 inch the width or lengh ?

Can you get the measurements please
It’s in the description . . . but you’ve probably seen already.

Sorry I wasn't there today it's because I was at my brothers to take his girls back home from school etc
What are poppers?
Press studs, two-part fasteners where one part presses into the other.
