    Thanks so much for the tips! I got my featherweight from my old neighbor that taught me quilting, back in 1999. We moved 400 miles away from her and on a recent visit she gifted me with mine. I love it and think of her always

    Hi. my name is robert. Found this 221 featherweight machine at GS FOR 30.00 $ Took to shop. had it serviced. Runs like a top. I really like it. My mom showed me how to sew when I was a kid. I used to tapper all my shirts when I was in my 20's and 30.'s
    when I moved out of state. I am now in my 70's and of course my mom is in a better place so now that I found this little jewel
    I guess I'll have to start fixing my shirts again. Your video was quite good helping me remember how to set up my new toy. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help. Robert 12-23-20

    Easy instructions and very helpful. I received my Featherweight when a resident in our community saw a small quilt hanging on my door. One day I came home and found the this wonderful women gave me her
    Featherweight as a gift. It's a 1950 model 221. What a blessing!

    I got mine from my grandmother. She had two and gifted me one not too long ago. She taught me how to sew on the one I have so it’s a sweet little reminder of her teaching me. I learned some new things from your video today that I did not know so thank you for posting.

    My great aunt was given this as a birthday present back in the day. She abandoned it when she left home and when her mother passed it almost became garbage until I saw it. Had it for 30 years and you gave it an understanding of how to use it. Thank you!

    Thank you for a great tutorial! My mother passed away a few years ago. My sisters wanted her art, furniture etc. I told them they could have everything, I just want her sewing machine. I have always had a knack with machines, I can take anything apart and put it back together. To my knowledge this was my mothers only "machine" and she took really good care of it. I feel close to mom when I am using her machine. I would love to see more tutorials about everything this machine can do. Thanks again!

    Really good video, clear, easy instructions. I inherited my FW when my mom passed away 2yrs ago. Just got the courage to finally get it out. The serial number shows it was made 12-1-49, with only 26,079 being made. I had no clue how to thread this machine until i watched your video. Thank you so much helping me be able to see things for my daughters like my mother did for me. And maybe they'll want it aftr im gone.

    My mom actually was given a sewing machine by a friend from work just for me; it belonged to her grandmother, mother and she gifted it to me because she had all sons and her daughter in laws have no interest.
    I adore crafts so this was very appreciated and is very loved.
    Thank you for the instructions!

    I actually learned to sew as a young girl on my grandmother's treadle machine. One summer I had a whole new wardrobe for 8th grade in the fall. I just got my Featherweight two days ago. This video was very helpful! I was actually threading the needle in the wrong direction (from left to right) and it wasn't working. I'm so glad I found your video!!!

    • @CraftcoreDIY
      @CraftcoreDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's so awesome! It's amazing how threading the needle has that much of an effect, but it definitely does! It's definitely happened to me before since so many machines go on different directions with the needle. I'm glad you're up and running!

    Thank you so much. I'm gonna be a grandma for the first time. My daughter is having a baby boy. And I'm making a baby blanket. ( Like I did when I was having my babies) Anyways my mom taught us to sew but I've never sewed on an antique sewing machine or how they were threaded. Thank you

    Got my 221 a couple of weeks ago. My neighbor across the street was moving and had several sewing machines. She said I could have her “old Singer” and handed me a small black case … before I opened it I knew immediately it was a Featherweight! (I collect “old Singers”)
    Based on the S/N it was made in Elisabethport, New Jersey on April 1, 1941, in a batch of 20,000 machines. No manual or attachments, but I have several Singer boxes of attachments I’ve collected over the years so pretty sure there’s a set for low shanks.
    Spent several hours cleaning and adjusting it, now it hums along and doesn’t miss a stitch! Unfortunately the finish on the 221 is spotty and could use a new paint job 😂.
    Followed the videos on the Featherweight Shop and restored the case to nearly pristine condition.
    Has got me motivated to complete several projects for the house, especially now that I’m retired!

      I have a sister out of the same batch! I purchased it yesterday for $20 at a yard sale with book, box, and attachments. I’m a single guy in my 20s that just wanted a sewing machine to maybe make some cheap curtains and mend my pants. I thought I was just buying a cheap old machine that might work. I was very surprised when I got home home and researched it haha

    • @TheRogZone
      @TheRogZone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@babyarmbill6776. Congrats on your find, what a fantastic deal!
      So far I’ve used mine to make “no nonsense” curtains on spring rods to cover my five clear story windows. Last year I made a “temporary” cover for my outdoor 2-seater swing. Went to the thrift store and bought a couple old sheets and designed a cover and sewed up a temporary one. I didn’t want to buy expensive awning fabric and make mistakes or alterations on the good stuff 😂.
      The Featherweights are good little straight stitch work horses! I have been able to complete mine with all the presser feet from my collections of sewing machine parts I’ve collected over the years. eBay’s a great resource to fill in the gaps.

      I have no idea what I’m doing but have already learned alot on TH-cam, I believe I have all the attachments that it came with originally. I’ve only tried a few practice stitches on some old rags to check everything out but it seems to sew great!! I just finished building my tiny home so I just have 5 smaller windows to cover. My grandmother was a seamstress, I’m taking my machine over to her house this weekend to start on curtains and learn how to mend my denim (she worked in a Wrangler jeans factory for years). I’m super excited to start learning and sewing with this cool little machine.

    I have been gifted my 221 Featherweight, a treasured heirloom from a friend, whose wish is I pass it along to my daughter when I no longer need it. Your video immediately brought back memories of my mother's machine I used but had forgotten how to thread. I anticipate completing a paper pieced project now will simply be the first of many on this machine. Thank you for a most helpful video.

It's a beauty, very well kept, perfect decals and sews great. I call it "The Wee One" since it was made in Scotland. I also have a 1941 201-2. I call that one "The Beast"! 😍

    I got my Singer featherweight long ago. It was my mother's, but she had a new one, so she didn't use it. My sister had it for awhile, and then my daughter, who did big quilting projects and other jobs on it, and eventually bought a more versatile machine. So it came back to me, where it belongs.

    My late wife was a professional seamstress, About 15 years ago a friend gave us the machine that was his mothers. My wife passed 10 years ago and the unit has been in storage. I just got it today and was surprised to see what it is worth. Except for a lot of dust it is in perfect working order. I was very interested in your video, thank you for sharing.

    Thanks for your video! I just purchased my very first Featherweight and I’m so excited and already in love with it!! I have a quick question: the instruction manual says that there is a thread cutter behind the needle bar, I see it but can’t figure out how it cuts threads.. maybe it’s just not sharp anymore?? Do you have any idea? Thanks!

    • @lucygonzalez5777
      @lucygonzalez5777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      👩‍🔧Hi, the threat cutter is right on top of the feed dog, it has a tight opening to the right side on the inside of
      the machine. By holding both or one piece of thread at a time, slide it in there by pulling it through, away from you. It cuts the thread nicely. The little piece looks a bit weird,😰 maybe that is why you can't find it. Happy sewing. 🤭😁👍

    • @Lyagushka8669
      @Lyagushka8669 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for your reply! I’ll have to try that! I did purchase the thread cutter from The Featherweight Shop which I really love, and I actually removed the original cutter from my machine, but I’m curious now to try and see if it really cuts well 😄

    I'm trying very hard to buy one. I would also love the model with the knee lever, I learned to sew on it in the early fifties. I could work my Mums treadle standing, but when she got the one with the knee lever, I was in 7th heaven, I could sit on cushions and sew without getting exhausted. Im not sure of my exact age, but I was very young, and small, still am at 4'10".... Thankfully I haven't shrunk.. lol
