Older gay man here who has been around the block a few times. Great that you guys are back together. If you can get through this quarantine unscathed you will have made a major step in your relationship. As you have already learned relationships aren’t guaranteed to last forever so the two of you working together through all these road blocks life throws at you will help you see success as a couple. This quarantine is not the only problem you will have to face in your lives together. But what does not defeat you only makes you stronger. My advice to you is wait at least 5 years before getting married if that is something you want. Please do not rush into it especially at your age. And starting now always remember that arguing is ok and normal. But no matter what always go to bed with a kiss and wake up with a kiss.
Becoming "boyfriends" can be relatively easy. But becoming a "friend" is complicated and much more difficult. Opening up, sharing thoughts, likes, dislikes and so on is not easy. Learning to listen is often a new and unfamiliar skill that must be practiced all of the time. Your constant eye contact is extremely important and says a lot about your relationship. That you are affectionate is beautiful. Do not ever let anyone make you think otherwise. Stephen and Matt, thank you very much for sharing with us, it is a pleasure. Be cautious. Be safe. Be well. I'm much older than you and Matt. Having been in 5 live-in relationships throughout my life, I think I may be able to impart some wisdom. All five relationships ended after 5 years. The reason was simply that I or my partner wanted "more". More usually meant other sexual partners. You know, the grass is always greener on the other side syndrome. There really isn't more and that green grass is astro turf. I regret I didn't have the insight I do now. My advice: cherish each other. Love each other. Hold each other close and don't ever let go, ever! You have something together that most only dream of and never experience. Live life and live the love you have for each other. Take care, guys. I enjoy your pod casts. You are at the beginning of your lives. Oh, how I envy you, your adventure.

An excellent example for everyone. The key phrase was: we opened up, we talked. In all of years that they new each other, the one thing that was most important was: we opened up, we talked. Everyone changes generally for the better as we learn more about our selves and about society. Arguments and fights are just a poor way of negotiating in a relationship. Two people can be so interested in each other but if they don't communicate all the way through in an effective way then it is pointless and a lost relationship. The effective communication is always key in any type of relationship. Glad both of you had the chance and opportunity and the results seems to be successful. You will both look just a cute in 10 years from now as you do today and you will have many ever lasting memories including surviving thru the hole COVID 19 pandemic. You guys are great and an inspiration for many others.
