I even used to think my relaxer was "wearing off", not that my hair was growing out. 🤦🏽♀️ Imagine if we got to practice with products and techniques in high school, and have bomb hair all throughout our twenties! That's my dream for my future daughter. I remember seeing girls of other races in college have beautiful long hair and know how to make themselves glamorous, I felt so unattractive and just thought I was unlucky, and cursed to forever manage new growth. I'm SO glad my sister learned from youtube and taught me there was another option!! Cause the only natural haired women I saw had close cuts or locs. I had no idea it could be just treated as loose hair. 🤦🏽♀️ This is what happens when you don't talk to your daughter about her natural hair texture smh. Your hair is gorgeous by the way. ❤
this is giving me so much hope...im 14 and i'v tried to transition 4 different times...My mama thinks curly hair is just so ugly and unmanageable so every time my hair grows i she forces on more perms and "softeners". Im thinking if just cutting my hair on my own- its transitioned so much so i would probably have a small fro...im just so lost rn please let me know what i should do..

I was in the same situation. My mother lovedddd perming her hair and so did her mother (my grandmother) but after experiencing so much damage I was able to talk her into going natural. She definitely wasn't for it for my hair but eventually I just cut it after transitioning. She was upset at first but then my hair started flourishing and she eventually gave into letting me cut hers, now we're both afro-ing it up. And her hair has grown more than it ever did permed. As for my grandmother, she would never go natural because she's stuck in her old ways and had such a warped mindset. She would tell me "how are you going to feel when all your friends and other girls out there has long hair?" and I just started showing her on youtube all the naturalistas with length and how they would blow out their hair or straighten it and it was as if she'd never seen it before. She accepted my decision. It's your hair and you know it better than anyone. You can always sit her down and have a real conversation with her.
I would say keep pushing to go natural. Keep expressing that you really want it. If she doesnt listen, just do it. Cut your hair. Note that you wont get any help from her, so when it gets tough youre probably going to have to buy your own products, do your own hair.. etc (unless your mom is a decent human being, just think of these things in moderation). My mom actually forced me to go natural just around your age; it was against my will and she was peer pressured long story 🤣 she is not a fan of natural hair (she only wears wigs until her hair is long enough to perm, and if its not bone straight, she dont want it). She also went natural around the same time and she keeps telling me to reperm my hair. Like, I cut it off because i had no choice, and now you want me to go back to thinn, damaged hair.. ok. She has no idea how to take of her hair nor mine, so this past year ive been learning to FINALLY take care of it. Its NOT easy!! But its not unmanageable.

I’m in the 4’s as well and I was always frustrated that my hair wasn’t growing as quickly and having these loose and luscious hairstyles as these other gurus on TH-cam! Ugh the confidence I'm loving it. I'm in my junior year in high school and I just started doing my own hair bc my mother refused to let me do it myself but early 2020 I said nope it's my turn. In the beginning of 2018 I started refusing perms and I started transitioning. Then in May of 2019, my mom I agreed to cut my hair, cutting the permed parts(I got a bob) Now 2020, I actually wear my natural hair. I'm still learning but I take pride in my hair.

I had hair down my back up until 12 or so. . I had a perm and it was DOWNHILL from there. Constantly perming and getting weave.. at 18 I was pregnant and got a pixie cut. Super cute. It grew out a lil past my shoulder...PERM. IT WAS GUMMY AND DAMAGED. I just did a chop two days ago, and braided it up. Ready to be happy with it again.

I had hair down my back up until 12 or so. . I had a perm and it was DOWNHILL from there. Constantly perming and getting weave.. at 18 I was pregnant and got a pixie cut. Super cute. It grew out a lil past my shoulder...PERM. IT WAS GUMMY AND DAMAGED. I just did a chop two days ago, and braided it up. Ready to be happy with it again.
