      How to not make it less than how you feel:
      1. Don't pay attention that the original writers of that music were 20x more talented than Dilla.
      2. Don't recognize nobody even gave a fuck about Dilla until he died, that somehow makes you 10x better in your craft than when you were alive.
      3. Cry knowing Exile is a better DJ/Sampler/Producer, but hasn't died yet. So most people never heard of him.

      I feel that. I banged Donuts for years, and a lot. Still bang that.
      But it's time people are serious, sampling takes skill, but it's like 1/4th the talent of the producers of the original music DJ's use. I know y'all niggas gonna hate on that, but it's the truth. You know it, you'll argue.....but there's a reason why original music hasn't been coming out like the 70's was just bangin' shit out. Honestly, fuck Dilla. He was overrated, he only got that respect when he died. It's what weak humans do and create to feel like they cool. You know it.

I thought about how he's no longer with us, and how it might have been a message directed to his loved ones. And also, how technically skilled he had to be to even make something like this. Not to mention that he was literally ill at the time.

I didn't know he had passed on, yet and it was like around May when I purchased it. Still have it sitting on my interface and play it occasionally. Yes, don't cry stood out because of all that chopping he did. Basically massacred that track. There are a couple of videos about people remaking it. RIP Jay-Dee aka J Dilla.

Madlib learned Dillas technique and applied it to this track and it is nothing short of amazing!! If you listen to the original track by Julius Brockington and hear how Mad flipped it, you'll literally sit there in awe!! Truly brilliant and probably one of the best Madlib tracks to date(well... besides Crate Diggin' by Lootpack)!!

    One thing Vox got wrong about this though… at this point Dilla was chopping things up in pro tools at Common’s crib to make beats. He didn’t even have the physical strength left to sit at the MP and chop. Dilla was such a master of sampling that he heard new songs in every record he listened to, and had them cataloged in his head, so much so that he could still make tracks out of them even when all he could do was point and click. He made beats like it was breathing. Like it was something he had to do.

    • @BackToTheBoomBap
      @BackToTheBoomBap  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only thing is, we don't know when he made what beats. Vox might be wrong if he made that in the hospital, because the MPC was too big for him to have in the hospital bed. But I don't know whether he made that beat whenever he was still home or not.

    • @saintrumi
      @saintrumi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for sure. Crazy though like how he gifted a record to Quest and was like “yo I’ve got a joint on here for you” like he knew when ? heard the track he’d know exactly how to make it. People mystify Dilla’s process with the MPC and I guess my point is that it had nothing to do with the MPC really. It was dilla’s brain that had the magic. It was how he heard music. He literally listened to music as bits and pieces of other, new music. That’s why he was and will forever be the master of the sample.

  • @tahajiyeedwards1444
    @tahajiyeedwards1444 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So..when I first started making beats, it was in GarageBand, a very early version, in around 05', 06'..and at the time, it didn't have any time stretch, or functional pitch control, or even a dedicated sampler. However, one could manually drag and drop in mp3s, and edit into slices, then, oddly, drag and drop slices onto the musical typing window, and play them. Still though, no slowing or speeding up samples, everything chopped on the kicks and snares, and played at my desired tempo. Producer friends would often trip out on what I was doing, and making unique bangers on free software, with all of the limitations...but it gave/gives me an different sound, that I went on to perfect, and use to produce numerous projects. It wasn't until YEARS later, that I found out dilla was doing this, intentionally, to purposely build a vibe, not out of neccestiy, like me, the entire time....told me I was on the right path

    • @BackToTheBoomBap
      @BackToTheBoomBap  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really bugged out to think that Dilla was purposely manipulating the machines that he was using to get the sound and feel he wanted. And that it was different than what everybody else was doing. Everyone knows that you can sample and chop with an MPC, but the rhythms of his drum programming was extraordinary. What DAW or hardware do you use to make beats now?

      No one really knows. A lot of people say it's for Illa J. Maybe it's for all his loved ones.that's the great thing about this song and Donuts in general.

    The most irritating chop was from 3:09 - 3:30 when that girl on left didn't know how to hold her face.

      My mic costs around $100. Whether or not that's cheap depends on who you ask. And I'm not rich. If that's all that was wrong with the video in your opinion, I'll take it as a compliment.

      @@BackToTheBoomBap mine cost 600, but your problem is you are recording it with too much volume. Turn you preamp down

      @@HorribleHomeVideo thanks for that tip. It's a blue Yeti mic, so I may just try to turn the gain down a little bit. Audio has been tricky for me in the past but I felt like I had got it pretty decent. But I'll definitely look into it though.

      @@BackToTheBoomBap yes remember you can always turn it up in editing. But if you record it too loud there is no saving it.

    1:40 No…lol Ye and Blaze mastered it WAAAAAY before Dilla did.
    Dilla just copied and stole it and “claimed” it as his “own” 🤡🤡🤡

      I hearted your comment because one I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video. And two because I respect your right to your opinion. But your claims are trollish AF 😂😂😂 How could Dilla bite Ye or Blaze when he was already had beats with artists at least 5 years before they started becoming known?

    2:06 Dilla still chopped up the sample though…? Lmao idk what this dude is talking about.
