  • Mitch Gallagher presents the Novation PEAK synthesizer module, with help from Novation's Enrique Martinez. With three New Oxford Oscillators per voice, each with traditional waveshapes plus access to 17 digital wavetables, the Novation Peak 8-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer is perfect for modern electronic music producers. It's perfect for sound design too, with a 16-slot modulation matrix plus 16 direct assignments accessible directly from the front panel. Each synth voice can utilize its own analog multimode filter, with pre- and post-filter distortion available as well. Factor in built-in reverb, delay, and chorus effects, a flexible arpeggiator, and a CV modulation input for integration with modular gear, and the creative potential in the Novation Peak synthesizer module becomes obvious.

    The more I look at this, the more I NEED it! Like an enormous Bass Station II. Three oscillators per voice, wavetables, plenty of modulation, nice filter section, FX, CV in.. Can't wait to hear more of it.

    Hi Izzy, in the SETTINGS Menu, there is a parameter called "Pickup". When you turn it on, the knobs have no effect on that parameter until they pass through the actual saved value of that knob. So, you can have it either way. Thanks for watching!

    If I didn't have my prophet 6 already, I would consider getting this. BUT then I'd probably still go for the p6 since it is my dream synth. Very cool and good job from Novation though!!

    The sound at the very end is the most interesting by far -- I'd love to hear that kind of patch played with a keyboard that has polyphonic aftertouch.

    I wonder why they chose only to have CV-input and not CV-out. Seems like they already had the necessary structures within the design to allow full CV if it can do CV-in. Regardless, this looks and sounds like a great synth and if I hadn't just bought a Sledge 2 I would probably want to save up the extra cash to get one of these. I'll have to settle with having more fun with my Novation Circuit instead! Great job, Novation.

      To either modulate external modules, or as a MIDI->CV converter. The Pro 2 has 4 assignable CV outs.

    New comers fall for the analog hype way too easily. people with a bit more experience know that analog isn't the end to it all, that you can get different timbres out of more feature rich oscillators and interesting movement from more modulation sources. I was considering a System 8 because it went a little bit further than the Dm12 but this one goes beyond, much more interesting.

    • @mikeexits
      @mikeexits 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah one is not superior to the other, each has their strengths and weaknesses. But there is nothing wrong with wanting a pure analog setup because of preference. It's a bit silly though if they're just concerned about the label and nothing else.

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikeexits The idea was the substantially increased audio source quality and depth of the Oxford digital oscillators that enable it to be compatible to a the depth of analog source oscillators. That's the point of it and makes sence to Me.

      I would have preferred an audio in or something over so-so built-in FX. The distortion and filter alone are lovely.

    what kind of processing is going on post-Peak in that signal chain? that Ticker Tape patch does not sound like mine. the one in the video is gorgeous, very muted and lp filtered while i cant filter any more without losing most of the harmonic content, clicky but still full and very saw-like while mine has a pulse wave, sharper enveloped when i can't get the envelopes to snap down any faster for tighter transients without losing any of the body
    is there some sort of hardware compressor in there? an lpg, a vactrol controlled vca amp?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi christdolphin69. The outputs of the Novation Peak were connected directly to the Audio Input of the video camera. To the best of my knowledge, no post processing was applied to the stereo audio track. But if you find a device that can single-handedly improve all of the aspects you mentioned, please let us know! -_Daniel_

      The unit demonstrated is running the first OS with no updates, the OS and function have been updated in the 3 and a half years since its release so its probable that some sounds are not going to be identical. I got My peak yesterday and its highly likely that My Peak does not 100% match the sounds comming from the ones 4 years ago due to the software updates which I think My one is 3. Somthing.

      5:35 - I love how this guy is telling us what the animate button does without actually pressing and showing them, as almost everywhere in the video. Why did you bring the synth even to the studio? Just describe us how it looks like and leave the rest to our imagination.

    • @marike1100
      @marike1100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Multitimbral synths are relics from the 1970s. These days how many polysynths that aren't romplers are multitimbral? And cannot you not afford a DAW, which has more or less made the multitimbral synth obsolete?

    • @marike1100
      @marike1100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the digital age that we live in, we are lucky that companies are still building analog synths at all. But inexpensive multitrack recording means multitimbral synths are not in high demand. You can find a few bi-timbral analog polysynths like the Prophet Rev 2, but in general the niche multitimbral analog polysynths is too small and production costs too high.

    • @noiselabproject9659
      @noiselabproject9659 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Multitimbral is still very nice to make a big sounding Combi patch program but granted that I don`t really care that much if my Nord Rack 2x for example can be like 4 different Synths at once but due to expense it`s not worth people making Analog Synths multitimbral, they would just say `hey if you want that then buy another one eh ?`

    What can this do that Serum or similar soft synth can't do? (Just curious, not trolling)

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most hardware sythersizors sounds can be replicated using software sythersizors like Serum even 15 years ago I used Reason Daw and in there you can combine multiple soft sythersizors into a single device and have like 50 oscillators and 50 LFOs if you want as the only limet to software sythersizors is the power of your computer. Software sythersizors can and will always outdo physical sythersizors hence why most Gear including Navation Sythersizors like Ultranova and Peak have a software plugin or software editor.
