I agree about taking the train to Italy. I did it once, After attending the 1971 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, I took the train to Florence. Tunnels, tunnels, and more tunnels.
Hi Tony, im italian and i must say these are the most accurate videos for tourists. It's absolutely true that we have many beautiful places outside the big and famous cities and its also a good advice to travel by car. Also i was pleasantly surprised to hear Terracina, because i spend my summer holidays there. It's a beautiful city with nice beaches. My best regards to you :D.
Thank you so much! I truly love driving in Italy and will do so again in the near future. I have yet to tour the north western part of the country but rest assured it is on the list. Terracina is nice place to spend some time and there is much to see around it as well but that's true of the entire country. I feel those that stick to mass transit miss so much your country has to offer and I'm glad that we go there we explore the path less traveled. Grazie e saluti. :)
Thanks for the video, really informative and very well made, as always. Me and my wife will have a trip to Sicily on next Tuesday, so your advices are especially useful for us again. Last year we used a lot of your handy advice from your previous video when we made a similar trip in Sardinia with a rental car.
Thank you for watching and I'm glad it was helpful! Between the 3 videos I have passed along all the advice I can give anyone about driving in Italy. Definitely one of the best ways to see Sicily. IF you are visiting Palermo or Catania maybe stay at a hotel just outside the city, park the rental, and hire a taxi to take you in. Everywhere else you can drive with no issues. Those two places are very busy. Enjoy your trip!
@@TonysFordsandMustangs Getting out of the passing lane as soon as possible. I was on the Autostrada coming from the Brenner Pas headed for Florence Italy going 90 mph ,top speed of my Fiat with its 1438cc pushrod engine was 94 mph. I passed a slower car and immediately was passed by a Maserati Ghibli (Red) going I would guess 125mph, its engine purring as my engine, was a little noisy at 90 MPH. However I caught up to that Maserati at the next rest stop and parked my car right next to it and took a picture which I still have.
Thanks for well made video. Brought back many memories of when I went there countless times in 1975-76, mostly Naples, pompeii and of course Rome when I had an audience with the pope. Loved the 1970's Fiat sedans back then too. Still have a soft spot for Italy after all these years. The Italians really know how to live well.
I had a 1970 Fiat 124S in Europe 1970=71. Many trips to Italy. I was stationed in Germany. Usually went by Brenner Pass. Once the Gross Glockner Pass which was fun.
There are way MORE tunnels in southern Italy highway system. Many open up onto bridges that span valleys. It's disappointing as the you don't see the countryside as the guard rails are tall on the bridges and tunnels are, you know tunnels. Thanks for watching!
As long as you have a good plan and stay away from the major cities you should be fine. Make sure to check out my other videos in the series as you should find them helpful as well. Here's a playlist and good luck. th-cam.com/video/80WA3WRjsSE/w-d-xo.html
I hope you don’t mind a question. How did you stay connected to the Internet while driving? Hotspot, eSIM, mobile phone (I have Verizon). We bought a map, but I’d prefer to have connection for turn by turn navigation. Thank you. These videos have been very helpful. We will be in Cortona this Spring.
I have AT&T and had no issues with cell service anywhere in Italy. In google maps u can save your map locally to your phone. As much as I love maps I wouldn’t drive anywhere in Italy without turn by turn. Glad you found the videos helpful. I most likely will be back in the late spring as well and I will be driving a majority of the time I’m there.

Have you seen the 1972 movie AVANT! Many scenes in Italy. Romance.
I will add it to the list thanks for watching!

Great video! Beautiful trip!
Glad you enjoyed it
The tunnels in Italy remind me of the tunnels of the Pennsylvania Turnpike System...

Da italiano ti assicuro che questo è il miglior modo per visitare l'Italia. Io lo faccio da 40 anni e mi mancano ancora molti posti
Great video's sir. They have been very helpful. How did you go about finding rooms to book?
