    You were saying how these shoe patchers don't have guide marks on the plate. I just bought one this week ands i am in the middle of making a new plate out of a measuring square ruler it fits, it's got the guide marks and since it's metal you can use a large rectangular magnet to use as a guide! I can't wait to get it up and running. It came with some rust so im cleaning it up and repainting it!

    Walking Foot presser wasn't pulling the leather. I figured it out. I thought the end of that thread-length screw always had to pressed against the metal frame. If you did that it would be a very tight thread which means the walking foot barely moves. I unscrewed the thread-length screw away from always touching the frame, made adjustments, and the walking foot works fine. Just sharing in case you have this issue.

    I bought one from bon-estore and found out that they can't help you if it doesn't come with a manual or missing parts.
    Mine came with 3 legs a mount and the 2 screws and nuts to attach the machine to the mount.
    Their were also 3 spools that are half the size of the ones common to the ones we have here in America.
    Also the bobins can't be restrung, on the machine.
    And their was no rod to put the spool on the machine.
    I contacted bon-estore and I was told that it didn't come with a rod for the spools and to check with the local sewing shop for one.
    I did and was told that they had no idea how to get one.
    Bon-estore still haven't responded to my request to buy a manual and rod for the machine.
    So now I have a 40lb boat anchor that I don't know how to setup and spools that I can't fill.
    So if you're interested in buying one contact the seller and get the details on what you're getting.
    Buying on line is a let the buyer beware!

    I've had one of these machines for about five years now they're great but I was just wondering why you're using white thread on veg tan when you're going to dye it it's going to look pretty bad ones that white gets dirty and the other thing is if you put a Groove Line in before you start slowing it looks a lot nicer and you can have a nice straight line I think I'm nice gruber's about 50 bucks but these machines are great when used correctly

  • @Astrobiologica
    @Astrobiologica 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    These stitching results are identical as what you would get with an old singer patcher 29k, its passable, but I would really want longer stitches using thicker thread to emulate hand saddle stitching by hand. I know that there are machines that can produce better results but they are not cheap at all.

      Hey Ashley, I too have a patcher and I was one of the lucky ones that my machine worked great out of the box, but to be fair I did buy it years ago before the craze when on, but let see if I can help, when you change your bobbin thread are you putting the thread back in the same hole and under the tension plate just moving the thread to the other hole will change the tension on the bobbin, hope this helped. Also there's a facebook group dedicated to this machine, it's a great group lots of help, here's the link facebook.com/groups/1646031288779869/

    I added a servo to my machine and like you I use a #92 bonded thread and a #20 needle.
    If the project requires a larger thread, I will hand stitch.
    After I cut my pattern I adjust the machine using the scrap leather. from the project. This machine is one that requires some tinkering to get it right.
    I have found on my machine that once the thread and bobbin tension is correct ( about equal for each), adjusting the foot pressure and stitch length is the only thing required for different leather thickness. Each machine is different and I would like to know if you have found this to be true on your machine.

      Your timing is off. Without being in front of your machine I can't tell you what's going on. See if your bobbin looks like mine in this video 1:07 The wheel should be at the 12 o'clock position with the needle up and the bobbin looking like mine. That half moon looking piece that fits with the bobbin pulls out and can some times slip out of position. It could also be the needle bar slipped up or down. putting that out of time. I would start with the bobbin. Good luck! th-cam.com/video/1llDije8Dg8/w-d-xo.html

      They are commonly available..Amazon, Ebay..plus a few dozen other websites.. they vary in quality and in price..some are sub $100 with shipping..some over $200..and the prices usually have very little to do with quality..there is some USA sellers that set up, quality check and tune the machines before they ship them to you..Well worth the extra money to get something that works on day one out of the box..I'd recommend shopping around alot to find a seller that does go thru these " shoe patching sewing machines " ..even so people find that these are very crude and cause damage to the leather..some spray the foot and feed dog..the bottom feed mechanism with teeth with a spray on rubber coating such as flex seal or bedliner to protect the leather from damage..

    • @leathercraftertips
      @leathercraftertips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi WV Chad! It dose look a bit like the Stock and Barrel version. But this patter is 100% a creation of 1802 and Company. Many makers in the leather craft space have been making patterns of this style for awhile now. I use an older program called Publisher Pro to make my patterns from the ground up. It's a dated program but after 10+ years of making patterns for my sewing business I can make patterns just as well as in Adobe. I start with a mockup of what will go in the item. Then I build out the rest. Sometimes it takes a few time to get it right. I'm still working to get this one just right. Off screen there was a bit of trimming as some of the inserts are about 1/8 inch too wide. Thanks for the question!

      Amazing. As if there is a design patent on a friggin wallet or card carrier. From the US, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, India, Japan, and more there are only so many ways to make a folding leather pocket container that holds paper currency and credit card/I.D. card items.
      WV Chad, I'm pretty sure Stock & Barrel & his family are not worried about this video or pattern, based on their own success and quality products. He even sells pattern packs.
      Stop being a Karen and let this crafter do his thing. He's not infringing on any trademarks, copyrights, patents, or even TH-cam conditions.

    In Asia, it is used as a low-end shoe repair machine and you can buy one from eBay at around $150- cheaper than Amazon !
    Besides, using veg-tan leather to make a wallet of any kind would be a disaster ! See, before you place your belongs into this wallet, the thickness is more than 1/2 inch. What would be the thickness after you put your cards, your money or business card etc ?? For me .... I really don't wanna put a " Pancake / Brick - like wallet " in my pocket ... HaHa ! A lot of truckers & bikers (motorcycle riders [ Harley Davidson] and others) and cowboy culture like veg-tanned wallets. The thin dress wallets have their place, but there is a massive market in the blue collar world for strong & durable wallets and many have chains attached from the wallets to the belt. This is how it's popular in the U.S.A.
