    This is soo well-made, useful and thorough! Really excited that I found this vid at exactly the right time for me :D And kudos for the editing and humor too, it makes everything really enjoyable to watch. I barely noticed it was 45 minutes, there was so much info and yet it didn't feel like work to learn all that. Thanks for making this!!

    My son is leaving in four days to be a student at the same program and live in the same building! I can’t tell you how helpful and comforting this video is! Thank you so so so much for sharing this with everyone, especially nervous moms like me! We’ll be visiting him in a couple months! THANK YOU!!!

      Teri, I am so glad I could help you in this way! Your son will have a great time and such a wonderful experience. I know it's normal for moms to be nervous (mine was, too) but trust that he's got this. 💪💪
      Also, my mom visited me halfway through my semester, too. Despite loving my time away in Dublin, it was fun to be around her again after so long. Like a fueling breath of familiar air - it gave me the confidence to finish the second half of my semester. I bet your son will feel similarly. Good luck to you both! Safe travels.

    Hi! I am also an American student who will study at UCD in January! I would love to hear about your experience/tips with the documents you had to bring to Ireland, and the process of going to the Irish Immigration Office. I am also in the process of looking at private health insurances and don’t know where to start & am not sure if I should consider getting travel insurance? Please let me know if you’re able to help :) thanks!

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I brought my passport (obviously), a copy of my birth certificate, my driver's license (as ID), an emergency health card (just a little paper with emergency things like blood type, donor status, medications, etc.) and my program-issued health insurance card with me. I can't be of much help for you about finding health insurance because the program I went through got me health insurance, I didn't have to do anything for it. I would seriously consider travel insurance since a semester is such a long trip and the world is so uncertain these days.
      For Irish immigration, UCD should host a seminar for you to learn more about specific steps to get your VISA but here is the basic process (from my experience): you receive an Irish phone number through a SIM card, given to you by the UCD Global Lounge, then call the Freephone (the immigration office) using this Irish phone number (a non-Irish number won't work) until they answer. You will then be offered an appointment - take whatever they give you! It is possible they have to cancel or you get sick or something, and it is so, so hard to reschedule. So make sure to do this ASAP after arriving to UCD.
      If you have any more questions, please ask! I hope this helps :)

    Thanks for this video ☺️👍🏼 I'm soon heading to UCD and your tips were very helpful 🇮🇪 Just one question: How did you manage to do so much travelling during the semester? Can you recommend certain travel agencies/bus tours or did you plan your travels on your own?

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad I could help! Good luck with your travels. I often used Finn McCools bus tours (through Northern Ireland, through Cong & Connemara, and through Glendalough). They were great because they were informative and fun but gave you time to explore each stop on your own. You were just given a time to be back at the bus. It was a good mix of touring and freedom. I also planned trips on my own (to Killarney, to Galway, and to Cork). For these I just used public transportation (mainly trains out of Dublin Heuston station but also buses from these cities to nearby attractions (from Galway to the Cliffs of Moher and from Cork to Blarney)). Then I used Airbnb, Booking.com, and Hotels.com to find accommodation. I do recommend booking those places at least a few weeks in advance, though.

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, as I said in the video, Yellow Umbrellas Tours are a great way to learn about the city center.

    Hi! I'm thinking about going to UCD for my erasmus and your video is so interesting!!! I have a question though. Can you choose modules that are different from your degree? Like for example if I am studying international business, could I take a module that is about ancient Greek and Roman civilisation?

    I leave for UCD next week and this video was sooo helpful!! I had a question about courses and schools, though. You said you changed colleges to take more art classes than business classes, does that mean you can take any type of art class? I'm in the arts and humanities college but specifically the school for psychology, so does that mean I can choose my classes from the college of arts with one or two classes in another college, or I choose my classes from my school of psychology with one or two from another school, like archaeology? Sorry if that's a confusing question lol, I just don't understand the way its supposed to work and answers online don't make that much sense to me, haha. Also, would I be able to connect with you on insta if I have more questions? thanks!!!! :D

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck and safe travels! You're going to love it. You are more than welcome to contact me on Instagram at @selfcharted (or @rachelore21) and I would be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.
      The system is confusing, so don't worry - it's not just you. It also could have changed but this is how it worked for me: I took three classes from the college of arts and sciences, each from a different school (one was art history, one was celtic studies, and one was classics). I was technically a student in this college because that was where the majority of my classes were, even though they were each in a different school within that college. Then, I took one class from the college of science (in the school of physics) and one class from the college of social sciences (in the school of economics).
      I hope this helps! Please don't be afraid to ask for further clarification if necessary. :)

      I received an email when it was time and I believe it brought me to SISWeb for it. However, it only opens at a specific time after you are accepted. For more specifics, you should ask the accommodation department at the school (and also through your program advisors if you are attending through another university).

    Hello 👋
    My name is Ogechukwu, I'm 32 years old and I'm from Delta State, Nigeria. I came across your TH-cam page and then i decided to share my problems with you.
    I have a problem, I graduated with HND in Civil Engineering from a Nigerian Polytechnic and I really want to know If I stand a chance of securing admission in one of the Universities in Ireland?
    I'm really worried and I do not know what to do or how to go about it, I just want to know my fate and where I stand with my HND certificate.
    I have been running around TH-cam to find a solution but yet no solution until I came across your page and then decided to reach out to you, I'll patiently waiting for your response, thank you very much.
    Let me know of I'll be accepted for Masters program or Diploma
    Can you please assist me, i need guidance on how to go about everything

    Hi, thank you for your video. Can I ask how long did you have to wait for your offer after you complete your application? I applied to the master in cultural policy and arts management and I need the offer letter to apply to a scholarship. I'm so confused because I have waited two weeks now for the offer, it is displayed "Application Complete & Documents Reviewed" and people on the internet say it can be up to 1+ month

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I applied early and heard nothing back for at least a month (maybe more), then realized I made a mistake and withdrew that application to register with a different school in UCD. The second time, I heard back in a week. So, it's very random and there is no standard time period. Good luck!

  • @jaidanbenson2902
    @jaidanbenson2902 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    can you apply to more than one school at UCD? i’m an international studies major so i should probably register for some politics classes but i would LOVE to take some history classes about ireland and ancient civilizations as well while i’m there

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You only apply to one school (the one with the majority of your classes, so probably the political one for you), BUT you can take 2 classes from other schools. For example, I wanted to take 3 arts classes and so registered with the arts college (despite being a business student at my home university). However, I also took an economics and an astronomy course while there.

    Hi! Do you have the option to live alone (no roommates) with an en suite bathroom?

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! I do not believe there was an on-campus option like this, but plenty of students lived off-campus (albeit usually with host families). However, as someone who really values her private time, I thought the setup at Roebuck Hall (and most if not all of the other accommodation halls) worked great with a private bedroom and bathroom but a shared kitchen and laundry room. Overall, it was the perfect mix of shared and independent living.

    • @rachelore
      @rachelore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not the easiest thing in the world, but it can be done. I would just advise knowing your EXACT address in the Irish format, as well as that of the mail room for larger packages. You can probably get this from your residence office. And be sure to monitor your student email for mailing alerts.
