    I added this to my watch later quite awhile ago (since I was pulled in by an intriguing title and a Tarkovsky thumbnail), and I am kicking myself for it taking me so long to watch! This was really fantastic, and this distinction between nostalgia and wonder isn’t something that I’ve thought about much, but it’s definitely something I’ve felt. This desire to capture a childlike wonder feels more and more present (and fleeting) as I’ve grown older. I’m probably going to be thinking about this one for awhile, thank you for such a great video!

      Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The subject of this one is really near and dear to me, so it's always really rewarding to hear that it resonated with someone.

      Thank you! I'm glad the production resonates with you, because I have very little experience in video editing, so I'm still struggling to figure out the finer details of framing, lighting, cutting, etc.

    Well, William, all I can say is I totally felt a sense of wonder watching your Succession videos. So much so that I was inspired to enroll in a local community college class this fall called Introduction to Shakespeare. Looking very forward to it, as well as to your upcoming videos! And Happy Birthday!

    When you brought up video games, I thought “Oh, crap. This will be entirely lost on me” since I’m an old geezer who grew up before those things were invented. I stuck with it because I loved all your previous stuff and have been eagerly looking forward to what you do next. What a surprise then, that this might be my favorite upload yet. Thank you, and Happy Birthday!🥳

      Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video in spite of the shift in subject matter. Going to try to branch out from Succession a bit and try different ideas.

    this is a great topic and well articulated here. wonder is my highest pursuit in art as both artist and observer/consumer.

    I'm in your 3% demographic from UK and as a 72 year old my horizon, as you define, may be seen through the lens of age. Wonder for me is through nature and most of all the mysteries of space. So many times during my life my little soul has been touched through art and architecture and I still feel wonder but nature has taken over. As a Nan I also feel wonder vicariously through my granddaughter. Your roadtrip analogy and LOTRs made me laugh out loud- brilliant! Please keep your videos coming, you deserve 1M subs.

      Totally agree with you about nature! This is something I'm realizing as I age too. When I was a kid, I was totally oblivious to the beauty of the natural world, but the older I get, the more in awe of it I become.

    Loved the video. I find that as I grow older and understand the world and myself better, I experience deep wonder encountering things I had previously considered ordinary.

    • @WilliamDuryea
      @WilliamDuryea  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! Mundane things that I would have overlooked when I was younger now have a fresh beauty, at least if I take the time to really see them.

    This might sound ridiculous, but this is exactly why I watch Spy X Family. It creates a feeling I can't quite describe when I watch it.
    While I wait for new episodes, I've been trying to find books that contain a lot of metaphors in them (not the book being a metaphor, but a lot of sentence metaphors being written). And I try to appreciate every metaphor I notice, and think on it. So I would appreciate any recommendations if anyone has any!

    • @WilliamDuryea
      @WilliamDuryea  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely get what you're saying about books full of metaphors. I would check out anything by Faulkner or Nabokov if you want to see really creative uses of language. I've never seen Spy x Family. I'll have to check it out.
