    Just to clear up, because it might cause some confusion. TEFL AND TESOL are not the same thing.
    Despite sounding similar, the two acronyms describe two different teaching contexts. TESOL refers to teaching English to individuals and groups who speak another language. This can be either in the U.S. or abroad. TEFL refers to teaching English in places where English is a foreign language.

    The fact that I have to get
    a certification to prove that English was the medium of
    instruction, whilst English is the only official language in my country is mind boggling
    . Thanks for the information, I'm studying Education and my majors are English and social science/studies. My dream is to teach abroad specifically Asia. I hope for the best.

      Just because you know English, doesn’t mean you know how to teach English. If that’s mind boggling, that’s exactly why the requirement is there :)

    So well spoken and the part about you actually have to enjoy teaching is so true. Also, people should never prepared to do the work. No matter where you teach they’re ups and downs to it. Don’t expect to love every part of the job or the country you choose. Be open minded send be able to adjust.

    The TEFL is not mandatory but if you are staying long term to teach get it!

    • @amo_thake
      @amo_thake 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The TEFL is not mandatory if you have a Bachelor of Education degree. If you have a degree in anything, you NEED the TEFL.

      Yeah even if one has a degree in Education,unless English is your Major and are from the countries she mentioned the TEFL certificate is a requirement. I need one because even if English is the only official language in my country, because I'm not from any of those countries I need one.

    How was the syllabus and the lesson planning? Did you get trained at any point beside the TEFL.

    • @justrefiloe
      @justrefiloe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both syllabus and lesson planning depended on the school. At one school, both were more time-consuming than the other. Didn't really get trained, but I did observe classes for about a week before I taught. Because I had classroom experience, I found it quite easy to get started.

    Is it not possible to teach in Korea if I'm from non native speaking country ?
    I have a bachelor degree in English medium.

    • @khadijahbrown151
      @khadijahbrown151 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      unfortunately not. if you’re not a native english speaker you would have to prove that you went to a English speaking school from k-12. if you can’t prove that you’re not eligible to be a teacher in korea or japan. but i think it may be different in thailand if that would interest you

    Did teaching in Korea put a strain on your religion (if you do have one)? Were there churches for Christians? Sorry if this is a dumb question ♡.

    • @justrefiloe
      @justrefiloe  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great questions! I don't follow a specific religion, but my time in Korea did pave the way to spirituality for me. Korea is actually a predominantly Christian country. In the area I was living in, there were churches everywhere. A lot of private academies are Christian as well, so if you are thinking about teaching in Soko, this could be an option for you too!
