Well the birthplace of Poland ist Gniezno/Poznań/Giecz. The First capital city was Gniezno. There was a famous event "zjazd gnieźnieński" (sth like Gniezno conference), where the polish Prince met the german king Otto III. Till today is is an important religious place. There is a cathedral as well, with the ramains of St.Adalberus who was killed in Prussia. There is the story that the Prince paid so much gold as the martyr's body weighted to get it back. It is laid in silver coffin as relic and in the 80s happened to be stolen.
Hello Molly and Matt thank for you wonderful adventures im so happy you guys you have now a lots of viewers im so very happy take care guy’s and thank you for sharing the beautiful adventures in deferent country bless you more and i love you both very nice 🥰👏👌
Poznań’s Universities came to prominence before and during WWII, as they had deciphered the original German Enigma code machine in 1932, and handed parts of the machine to the British, during the summer of 1939. Polish mathematicians from Poznań’s Universities had years of ex-perience as cryptologists and directly helped Alan Turing in Bletchley Park with his work in de-ciphering the Nazi Enigma machine. I am delighted that this is recorded in Bletchley Park, so that at least a small number of daily visitors may be acquainted with the full historical facts.
The beauty of Poznan is that no two buildings are the same color. it looks like the crossaints are to die for. Harriet and I have never been to Poznan. After seeing this video, it's on our bucket list of cities to visit in Poland that we haven't been to. Harriet and I , generally don't like shopping malls but the one you were in looked pretty cool. You guys have a skill of finding cool places. Always looking forward to your next vids from one of our favorite TH-camrs . Sending you guys lots of love 💖💖 Jim and Harriet. Richmond, Va.
the saint martin croissants (not actually croissants - there just isn't a direct translation so we make do) are actually over 1200 kcal! (also they're filled with white poppy seeds not almonds) Poznań is such a beautiful city but as you guys said right now a lot of it is under construction (you said your feet kept getting stuck in the cobblestones and that's one of the reasons they're changing it - they were awful to walk on especially in high heels or if you're disabled)
I'm really glad you've enjoyed your stay here in the city of Poznań. :) I hope you come again some day in the summer, its so green and beautiful then :) Warta is so crowded in the evenings.
I hope you are no longer one of those British people who think that Poland is a backward country where polar bears walk the streets of the city. I greet and wish you a pleasant experience in my country. Pole from Sydney.
Yes, there are still traces of you there, such as Auschwitz-Birkenau and many other concentration camps where you murdered millions of innocent human beings. If I were German, I would just shut my mouth and stay silent.
Now, you have to visit Poznań again, but during summer :) especially Jezioro Maltańskie and Termy Maltańskie nearby are really worth a visit then. Also KontenerART and Nocny Targ Towarzyski are places you have to visit on warm days. If you look for a cool place to stay, I can recommend City Park Poznań (fantastic hotel and lots of great restaurants in this area)
Finally my Town :) I wish I was in place now. If I was, I would guide you around the city and tell you a lot of curiosities and interesting places. Well, I currently live in Cardiff, if you ever visit Cardiff I will give you a tour :D
First! Hahaha! Love the sights around Poznan. Your hotel room looks marvelous. But seriously, I need to take a break from Filipino food. I wanna try all that Polish food. Lol! Really liked this video! 👋😊👍
A thing about croissants, they're made specifically from the flaky, buttery puff pastry. The type of pastry St. Martin's rogal is is known in English as 'kifli' or 'kipferi' roll.
What you call a „croissant“ (in Polish „rogal“ or „rogalik“) in reality is a „kifli“ in English. Kiflis and croissants have a similar shape, but they are made from very different dough. Other than that, really great video about Poznan, the capital of the region Wielkopolska where I come from!
Kifli? It is a Hungarian, not an English word. You could as well say they're called 'rugelach' in English (borrowing from Yiddish, quite popular in USA), which at least is a cognate of Polish 'rogalik'. French croissants are in actuality descendants of Austrian rogale (kipferln), brought over there along with other viennoiseries in the early 19th century. The word 'croissant' means crescent (half-moon) and it describes the pastry's shape just the same way that 'rogalik' (a little horned-thingy) does. The dough isn't very different, both pastries use fat-laminated, yeast-fermented dough, the French croissants just use much more butter to separate the layers, the result being a lighter, flakier baked product, usually not filled (though filled version also exist: chocolate, frangipane, etc). Italian croissants (known as cornetti in the south or brioscie in the north of that country) are typically filled, the Anconian and Aversan varieties, filled with marzipan being called 'la polacca' (Polish-style).
The rogalki are not croissants, the dough is similar to that of a Polish danish - a nice yeasty, warm, bready dough. Thanks for this video, I’m from the Krakow area and have lived in the US for twenty something years and your videos make me miss home so much!
Hey guy’s another great vlog thank you for sharing and that was funny 2 breakfast’s fair play to you molly so stay safe and catch you in the next one, PS Molly great editing as always, later’s
I assure you that the Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski) is still an island, despite the section of the Warta River (known as the Rotten Warta due to high pollution of municipal sewage discharged there for centuries) having had its bed moved eastwards in late 1960s, away from Chwaliszewo neighbourhood. The Island is surrounded on all sides by water, Cybina River on the east and Warta on the west. The Island is accessible via three bridges now: Chrobry's from the Old Town's/City Centre's side, and Mieszko the First's & Jordan's (the old St Roche's) from Śródka / New Town's side. Plus St. Vincent's bridge in the northern, industrial part of the Isle, a combined railway & road bridge.
@@dabbleandtravel it's the big silver box you can see at 1:42 in the video. It is a museum of the history of the island. Poznan is my wife's home city, it's a lovely city. Shame about the construction sites!
Guys, if you would like to see some industrial malls then definitely need to visit Łódź and its Manufaktura. This was a huge factory back in 19th century but now is a really huge mall. However, on your way from Poznań I would suggest to visit Szczecin first and its opera house; astoninshing architecture!
Actually Poznań was the second capital of Poland. first one Was Gniezno, which was the Polan slavic tribe capital when the dukes of the tribe started to unify all the slavic tribes around in IX and X century, but it was too small to be a proper capital, so Poznań was next. Also Poznań had the first christian archbishopric
Next town: Torun (gingerbread town, and Copernicus town), Gdansk (tricity Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia)... I would take a tripfrom Gdansk to Malbork (bigest Castle on the world), and to the end of peninsula Hel (don't make mistake "go to hell" :)) , recommend to go Westerplatte where second war world started. Great to watch you, guys!
Now you got me thinking and I concluded: The meaning of POZNAŃ is: the place where people get to know each other or get to know things/places. There is no such a word in the Polish language, so the meaning is only inferred. It comes from the word "poznać" which means to get to know / discover (people, places, things). Thank you for spelling Poznań correctly, and it would be nice if you also pronounced it correctly ;-).
