    Bought from Amazon for $245 with 2 satellites. Didn't get 2 day shipping but got a great price. My house has plaster walls and I'm hoping this system makes things better. Good tutorial.

    I know this is a couple years old now but I think you did a GREAT job making the video, testing and setup! I’ve watched a lot of videos on setting up the Orbi system but yours was by far the most inclusive and as real as it gets to us going to be setting up one! Thanks!
    I Hope your support from Netgear has been able to fix your “random disconnects” problem??
    Do you still have to connect through the Verison Modem/Router?
    Soon, when I setup my Orbi RBK53S 3 pack, I’ll be connecting to my Spectrum modem/router also.

      John McKittrick we paid for 150 up and 150 down. The difference between the Verizon router and this Orbi is unbelievable. The only issue with the orbi now that it has been in place a while is that my computers will loose connection with the Orbi every so often. Reconnection to the WiFi is easy but still annoying that I have to reconnect. Connection should stay solid. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.

      joebrandon1977 funny you should ask this question. It has happened a few times. I does not necessarily drop, but sometimes my computer will not automatically connect to my WiFi network. I have to go into my network settings and reconnect it. Other than that it has been great. Love the faster internet throughout my entire home.

    • @edcwood1
      @edcwood1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FrankGuest The reason for this is that the Verizon device is both a cable modem and a router/wifi device. The Orbi is just a router/wifi device so you have to have the cable modem portion. It is fine, you can just disable the verizon devices wifi and use it only as a modem. Or, call Verizon and ask what type of aftermarket cable modem you can replace it with. Verizon might even be able to swap their device out for a simple cable modem instead of a modem/router combo.

      Captain Atheist I was on the 5 gig connection on the Verizon router, the Orbi selects the best network for you. It offers both 2 and 5. But it picks for you based on were you are in reference to the WiFi system. BTW, love the TH-cam name!

    • @BillAndersonNS
      @BillAndersonNS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrankGuest I think you are confusing Ghz bands that the router uses, with Gbit/sec bandwidth speeds that your ISP provides. The Captain I think was asking if you has 1Gbit/sec speeds from your ISP when you did both the before ORBI and after ORBI speed tests. If the answer was YES then it is really curious that with the old router you were getting 75ish Mbit/sec down when you were paying for 1,000Mb/sec

    @19:31 re your magic speeds of 417 down and 451 up: @ 5:10 you said you were paying for "150 up and 150 down"
    How can you pay for 150 and actually get 451? Do you not think that is a little bit strange?
    Also after getting the fails and the error you said you solved it by plugging your Verizon router back into the modem and then plugging your ORBI into that old router? Which is the "other" method to instal if you have a combined modem/router from the ISP.
    All in all I would say this is a big fat fail.
    1. You intended to take the old router out of the mix and the only way you could get it to work is to leave the old router turned on, plugged in, and very much IN the mix
    2. Your speeds with the new router are three times faster than you are paying for, which is nice but also very suspicious

    So, assuming no network load, you originally had 79 Mbps down from 150 available which yields a 53% download throughput of available bandwidth at the Verizon router. Then somehow you upgraded to a Gigabit per second in the middle of your testing which then yielded a whopping 417 Mbps? Hmmm. At the Orbi base router, (right in front of you, while I'm not sure where the Verizon is/was...same room?) that only yielded almost 42% download of available network capacity...again assuming no load. Looks like the extenders consume some bandwidth that the upgrade has rendered negligible... Wish you'd have kept a consistent bandwidth speed... Shrug. Not sure what I can take from this, but thanks...

      J Michael I tried to do the best test that I could. Tested before the Orbi was installed and after I installed it. Did all the testing in the same places. I have two teenagers always online with their devices. I did not make sure they were off line before I did the test. Definitely not a scientific test. But it is much faster now. And now I have internet in my basement thanks to the satellite. I had zero internet in the basement with only the Verizon router. Thanks for watching.

    • @grumpychocobo
      @grumpychocobo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The speeds he's seeing on the Orbi is about the limit of good AC Wifi, doesn't matter if he had 100Gbps internet, he would have gotten the same on the Orbi. The thing to keep in mind here is that his old router could not even provide the 150Mbps he had available. The Orbi on the old 150Mbps plan would have provided him about 150Mbps to his phone.
      Basically, before, his router was the limiting factor, the bottle neck. Now the limitations of home wireless is his limitation, bottleneck.
      From personal experience, I moved about 4 months ago. I had 100Mbps up and down at the old place. Wifi would give me that full amount, about 100Mbps. In the new place I have 1Gbps internet and the same wireless routers now give me around 400Mbps.
      Hope that makes sense.
