Josh appears to be a bit of a ham, thoughtful, funny, reflective, genuinely a little quirky, inquisitive and a perfect example of every-single-beginner in all of us. Thanks for taking us along with you on your journey Josh. It was a pleasure to ‘meet’ you.
This is great! Honeysuckle bushes are my favorite. I've dug up so many of them for bonsai. Easily the majority of my collection is Lonicera harvested from the edges of fields.
Hello! I really enjoyed your beginner's series. I've read and watched enough videos to know a lot of this, but this method of presentation really brought it together. A great addition to your beginner's series I think is missing would be - fertilization! Also, this is a little above beginner level, but also very important - a pest control video would be great addition to the series as well. Spider mites have been a constant bane to some of my trees...
Oh wow. I would have gotten rid of that bottom left branch immediately. But I guess it doesn’t hurt to keep it and possibly get rid of it later if it doesn’t fit the final design.
Super great video mate. Personally I would have cut the long right branch off at the bottom and made the other two more interesting was looking great with the first two branches wired . Then cut I know drastic but they are a tough species great literati candidate. Love all the videos and please don’t forget about the old TH-cam audience. Been watching mirai for years now love your little peace of the world. 😉🍻👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Looks like that would be a fragile branch for the structure it being more grown on the truck than pushing out more like a zit! We'll see in future how high winds and if blown over it holds up!? It would be one I'd have removed myself or I'd make a fresh wound and try and bring the live cambium in closer on a guide wire or turn buckle while sealed to fuse it to the trunk to thicken the base up from it if keeping it as part of the design! But I do see a nice windswept in the tree that thick leader has to go No taper there and you don't want an African acacia style out a deciduous!
The end result is less tree-like. I would cutback those trunks so I can make a mame or a shohin bonsai so the trunk would be emphasized rather than having thin trunks that looks feeble to me.
It's super helpful to watch a non-expert go through the process and get expert critique.
Thank you Josh for daring to share your bonsai journey! It's super helpful in so many ways.

I really like this type of video, the reactions are interesting and funny 👍
I'm not sure what y'all mean by the raised shoulder of the branch? Do you have another video of that somewhere else on your channel? Thanks!
I love the picture of Carl Sagan on the mantel. :)
