Honestly, now that my headset is outta warranty, I don't want to update my headset, especially if there is a chance it could kill my headset and leaves me SOL. It's a customer support nightmare if they don't replace every headset killed by the update. I simply can't burn several hundred bucks because Meta plays russian roulette with my updates.
Ironically it was the people who DON'T update often that were the problem... Going from an old version to this huge update was too much change... it is better to get every update as they come out. My year old+ Q3 had no problem with v72.
@@NextWorldVRall my headsets are fine, yet again, I update them regularly. But the funny part, buyers in the EU are protected quite well, so legally, Meta should, if my Q2’s (multiple), 3 or 3S get bugged, I’ll be getting a replacement or a better replacement if not available.
@ “just wipe the device”💀can you imagine if Microsoft did this? “Oh yeah just wipe every file off ur computer.” Also idk if you’ve been living in a dumpster but it not as simple as a reset. Sometimes it doesn’t work and you have to have a replacement sent to you.
@@Alessandro-hu4iy that’s not the point you argued. It’s not always fixable by a factory reset. The point still stands that a company that big forcing someone to reset or get a new device is unacceptable.
My quest 2 seems to have started the update and is stuck in the process. Every time you try to power it off, it says, "update in process do not shut off, keep it charged and connected to wifi. Has been like that over a week.
I have a Quest 3 more than a year old. I got the V72 update on Dec 19th and there is/was no problem. I tend to update often and keep automatic updates on. I suspect the problem was with headsets that were not kept updated. (Though they do need to fix that as any one that people buy new, would not have been kept updated!)
My old quest 2 (that my sister now uses) had a weird bug where the sign in screen to select account wouldn’t be there but would show when you turn your head fast for a second So would have to turn head back and fourth trying to press the buttons to select account and update the VR which fixed the issue No clue if this is relevant to this but was just a interesting bug I never seen before
That is an interesting one! At least it still boots and you were able to update it to fix it. A lot of folks are dealing with completely bricked headsets.. an expensive paperweight!
I think the number of VR users on Steam is underrepresented. I recently took part in the hardware survey and it didn't register my Quest 3 at first. In order for the hardware polling program to see it, the Quest not only had to be plugged into the computer, it had to be on AND running the quest link software AND running the SteamVR client. I imagine lots of Quest users don't have their headsets polled because you have to go out of your way for Steam to see it.
We’ve seen VR be used a lot recently just in normal culture. Things like ESPN using it for football coverage, even stuff like a judge using it in a legal setting! I think a lot of news on TH-cam is mostly gaming focused and is just people saying the same thing just different channels. Entertainment/media consumption isn’t talked about nearly enough. Also when quest 3 first came out there was a lot of “tips” on how to navigate and use it. Since then there’s been major UI updates and no one has really covered how to use it most effectively. 3D movies are a HUGE benefit and absolutely amazing to watch, that’s not talked about either.
I might've found a work-around for the black screen problem. First off, instead of just the power button, hold down both the power button and lower volume button until a menu appears. If that doesn't work then try holding the menu button and THEN the volume button after the screen starts blinking. After that you select boot device which starts the vr headset. After this the problem should be resolved. This worked out great for me but there's a chance of it not working for some other people.
They should replace any unit they brick. In the UK you have 5 years cover for a manufacturing defect and I would suspect Meta pushing out an update which bricks the device would be considered that.
Another thing with the V72 is that it’s bricking Pro controllers. Just got the controllers recently and was super excited. After pairing it’s just Stuck at 0% updating. It’s infuriating. Guess I have to wait for an update

My Quest 3 didn't brick, but the latency and connection speeds are all over the place. One moment it's reading 700mb/s and the next it's 250. USB C port starts reading 2.0 speeds as well
I'd be happier with my Wayfarers having a _simple_ HUD for now, doesn't need to do more than what my Watch did, which was just be a peripheral display so I could leave my phone in my pocket all day and rarely dig it out. Same gig, same use case. And if that silly 'hey I'm taking a pic and just wanted you to know' light was replaced by a second synced camera so I could record vids in stereo with a proper IO distance between lenses. That at least would do something to make my Q3 more useful doing what IT does...actual VR stuff, like watching 180 SBS 3D video.

There, done on my soap box…..
I’m using my quest 3 way more then I did the 2. The 2 sucks compared to the 3. The clarity and the pass through with mixed reality is keeping me in mine more.
On my quest 3 the pass through has a stitching bug or something. Almost looks like a reflection but isn't. On top left side(from camera one) has part of camera ones visuals ghosted on top of it. Super annoying. Tried reboot, tried factory reset.... Hoping I don't have to exchange.

Yeah my Quest 3 Left Controller just stopped working about a month ago after an update. I tried everything they recommended short of factory resetting the Quest 3 because that's a huge amount of work and so I just decided to play games with hand controls or games that only need the right controlled (minigolf, bowling, etc) to see if the next update fixed it. It did and it didn't. It works now, had to do a controller reset twice to get it to respond, but now it keeps losing connection. I'm so annoyed with this nonsense.
