It would be interesting to find out the data from the vehicles but the Avalanche's computer might be damaged. I suspect the speed differential had to be at least 40 mph.
He got a guardian Angel that's for sure. I would have assumed he was gone by the look of the scene. I had a friend fall asleep and hit a hotshot car hauler. It rolled over the little Honda and landed on it. They were trapped for 90 min. The other driver wasn't injured. That Honda looked like a wadded rolled up cigarette pack
Prayers to all!! I owned an Avalance n it saved my life when a dude t-boned me flying up a driveway and hitting the receiver at 85mph. Lived to tell n live with the physical injuries!! Praise the lord❤
Oopsies. Glad he made it out. I stay a great distance behind semi trucks and it never fails that some car changes lanes and wedges itself between my suv and the semi. I hate when that happens.
That happened to a co worker in 2015, and he now spots trailers instead of being a truck driver. The lady that rear ended him didn't make it and it was his first month on the job.
I'll tell you why the US trucking industry cannot (will not) install adequate under ride protection. One word. Greed. They'll ticket the hell out of truckers in the name of safety (revenue, pen hits paper and trucker can be hit four figure fine). The trucking lobby continually defeats efforts to make trucks safer around the motoring public . The cost of upgrading the rear DOT bumper from a guillotine to a barrier is negligible compared to the lives and injuries it saves. Why does EVERY aspect of American life have to be corrupted by GREED???
Yes it is a cost thing, but if you looked at the full video, the dot bumper was not missing, and did it's job, other wise the SUV would be at the rear tires of the trailer. There have been improvements. FedEx Ground trucks are limited to 65 MPH. Yes some do more then that. You are blaming the design of the trailer, and not the actions of the driver of the SUV. Now FedEx is sued, and you wonder why your shipping went from 5.25 to 6.25 per package, is because the SUV driver just won a million dollar case.
@@stevenbass7578 I'm not defending the SUV driver at all. I trucked for a dozen years before retiring in '21, I know how stupid, rude and dangerous 4 wheelers are. I'm just stating that corporations cheap out on safety in every aspect of American life and then buddy up with the government to get a pass (lobbyists). We all end up paying the price for this greed. A stronger DOT bumper with more surface area would save lives. What about bad road conditions like rain and ice? If you say they should slow down, then tell the truckers the same thing. Look at the huge pileups this last winter, lots of trucks involved too..
The driver was so lucky it was an offset crash and did not have passengers. As for visibility... I came up on a trailer with no lights on a rural highway that had no lighting whatsoever and managed to see it in time. I managed to get the driver to pull over (" what's this crazy guy in a car doing honking and waving???", his hazards worked even though tail and clearance didn't, so he drove the rest of the way to the city like that.
Believe it or not I worked one almost if not worse than that took us 3 hours to peel the guy out but was a recovery 18 wheeler rear ended a pu into another 18 wheeler the trucker fell asleep and didn’t see a red light
Bro. Was the driver of the pickup was trying to travel back to 1955 by going 88 MPH? Faulty flux capacitor obviously. Try a mall parking lot next time.
That truck wouldn't have went so far under that trailer if the trail axle would have been shifted to the rear position. Not that it's the trucker fault that the idiot driver ran into to back of it.
Have you ever seen when one hits solid concrete? It is even less pretty. Higher deceleration injuries as well. It won't matter how solid they make the back of trailers if people keep driving into them at great speed.
Somehow those bars under the back of trailers don't stop vehicles from ending up under them, need a better design, like a big bag of packaging peanuts, they weigh nothing, and I'm sure might save a few lives...
The ems and firemen I live. God thank you for the men and women who deal with these problems

How anyone survived that crash is an absolute miracle

Rear-ended a moving 18 wheeler and went that far under. How fast was he going. BAC will certainly be pulled at the hospital.

More than 40 more likely 75
@@charlesspidell1447 I would estimate he was going between 50-55mph faster than the truck.

Amazing that the driver was still alive.
He did
Good thing there was no passenger, different out come

Lucky guy! If he was driving under the influence, he will definitely learn from that mistake, AND live to tell about it!
The only reason he lived, he was drunk...
🙏🏻❤
So the semi was already doing 70 and the avalanche was still able to hit hard enough to completely underride it. Wow
That happened to a co worker in 2015, and he now spots trailers instead of being a truck driver. The lady that rear ended him didn't make it and it was his first month on the job.
This is why good strong under ride guards are so important on semis
I just posted above about that . Proper under ride bumpers keep getting defeated because of one thing , money.
@@telcobilly I just wish that would make it a law like air bags or seat belts it could definitely save a lot of lives
Don't drink and Drive Hopefully everyone is ok
His side was not lined up with the rear of the semi. Looks like his side was farther out to the left, which is why he wasn't smashed.
So the trucks were doing 70 and THIS is the damage caused by the pickup hitting them? HOW FAST was that boy going? Damn!
"Witnesses say both 18-wheelers were traveling about 70 miles per hour when the pickup hit the Federal Express Truck." Was he doing 120?
Exactly my thoughts.
Prayers to all involved
GOD was riding shotgun on this night. Glad he made it out. Hopefully he will tell his story to others and prevent another tragedy
How did he survive? 🤷♂️
By the grace of God.

Just think how much longer it would of taken if the first responders didn't have the Jaws of life.
remind me to be on my game around Conroe TX
You gotta be moving pretty damn fast to tuck a giant suv under a semi trailer like that.
If the semi was going 70, that dude had to be doing 100.

Popped out of time warp, and ended up under trailer! Doh!
He was just trying to get his package sooner.
I've seen wrecks with much less damage and the people don't make it out alive. It must have been his day.
I know this is a yr late but there's nothing here saying if his wife survived. By the way it looks that she didn't.

Had an Avalanche "parked" under it? I don't think that would be the word I would use.
The ICC bumper should be equipped with an airbag, to help prevent the car from going under the trailer.
They'll jus find another way to end up under the thing!
No...people should pay attention to their driving and not hit a semi in the first place. It's not like a semi is hard to see
@@shawngherity2586 If they are not hard to see why then do so many people end up as a suppository.
