Fifty-five years ago, this movie had a life-altering impact on me. It probably was my first real moment of introspection. I realized that each of us, all of us, seek our own Shangri-la. May each of you find your Shangri-La.

Possibly the most transcendentally beautiful movie scores ever written. As ethereal and atmospheric as it gets.

I agree, Mattleemattlee. I've never been a huge Tiomkin fan. While I've liked some of his work, I don't think he ever attained the consistent excellence of Alfred Newman, Max Steiner or Franz Waxman. However, Tiomkin's "Lost Horizon" score really put him on the Hollywood musical map. Capra took a real chance with Dimitri on this film because it needed a large scale great score on the most expensive film Columbia had ever produced up until then. Capra said his backup plan was to borrow Steiner from Warners to conduct the score and that if Tiomkin's work wasn't up to the task, he figured Steiner could jump in at the last minute and save everything. But Capra dropped by the Columbia scoring stage to listen to the score and he was convinced that Tiomkin had captured the essence of the film. It is magical work.

A Tiomkin and Steiner collaboration cannot be beat. Wonderful , Wonderful music. Many of those old movies sure had great musical accompaniment.

I'm on Cloud 9! Notwithstanding the elegant explanation provided by MovieTitleScreens, I'm so happy to view elegance! I love this production, film, actors, actresses, sets and so on. I'd several of my own similar clips back in the day, but they were "deleted." Such is life!
Thanks again MovieTitleScreens! Your upload has added to my life's waning years! Happy for your having posted this!
    Best regards,

They have no intention of letting this one on TH-cam for free, because it is still very popular and copies of it still sell. Sorry, if you got the impression that this was the entire movie. It is only the opening credits.

I, too...loved this film dearly. Disappointed in the greed and arrogance of You Tube for 'removing it because of violation of terms of service'..jeez what does that even MEAN? Wondering what the High Lama would say?

This wonderful film has gone through some stages I think now in 2014 it may be a much better experience. Sam Jaffe playing the D'alai Llama Full film is owned by Columbia or was for a long time..John Howard playing Coleman's brother and delightful E E Horton and Thomas Mitchell w H B Warner as Chang. It has some slow spots but it has a superb payoff and nobody was better than Ronald Coleman in films like this ..I was told there was a much much loner version than 132 minutes back in 1937 Capra ( on Cavett show) said so

I like this movie, but I prefer the 1973 musical remake. The characters are much more developed.

Tenho certeza de que shangri-la é o além e eles morreram quando o avião ✈ caiu e eles, os passageiros ainda não haviam se dado conta de que haviam morrido.
Esse é o meu entendimento do filme.
