even though i've already take this class Mechanics of materials i still watch the video, who knows i might learn something new :D Keep up the good work structurefree
YOUR videos are fantastic in term of explaining and making the concepts clear however sometimes they dont make sense to me maybe because of not having solved examples. kindly please do workout some related questions if possible ,of course. Thank you for the excellent job you do.
What about the transverse strain? Would it deform the same amount as the lateral strain? For example if I had a rectangular rod and I compressed it in the z direction, would the strain in the x and y direction be the same?

Here's an introduction to Poisson's ratio. Enjoy.
Very helpful. thank you.

please can you help me to answer a question I have about poissons ratio?????
StructureFree
Learning!!!
In practical case necking will happend insted of unifrom deformation as said in video then how to do for that kind ?
Please kindly explain.
You are the man...
so melted cheese has a negative nu?
Melted cheese is a viscous liquid, no longer follows these properties of solids
shylildude ha, ha! Technically hmata3 is correct...but "deliciousness" definitely trumps Poisson's ratio. Mmmmmm, gotta get me some nachos!
