    One important thing to consider is that A.i. Comes wirh it's own unique set of vulnerabilities... And until those vulnerabilities are solved you won't see a significant uptik in ai only cybersecurity

    The thing I've got from video is "there's a shortage of cybersecurity professionals but since we don't want to spend a lot of money on hiring new people (and even if we want it's only PHD's) we're gonna do with AI.

  • @rcse70

    Love how he glossed over and then side-stepped the question concerning AI coming for a multitude of tech jobs. "Human judgment is going to be important for the foreseeable future.. I am completely wide-eyed.. every human on the planet needs to be secured.. we need people from multiple backgrounds.. We need more people from a liberal arts background.." All of that (and more) is complete aversion to the question.

    @christopherpeterson6004 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Microsegmentation is the key. We are facing in memory attacks that cannot be detected by traditional anti-malware endpoints. You can observe this in Windows with 100's of services running in a single thread with direct kernel access. We need to establish behavioral patterns of how each process communicates in memory - baseline and block everything else. Examples of effective approaches include Threatlocker's "ringfencing", or "RPC firewall" by Zerotrust networks.

  • @scottch4444
    @scottch4444 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

    80% of 'attacks' do not originate from email...
    Public facing infrastructure that is unpatched + 0-days + Weak user/admin credentials = The majority of incidents.

    So, why is there such a massive cyber security skills shortage? Perhaps it's because the red team pays better than the blue team.

    • @sCiphre
      @sCiphre 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

      Actually, blue teams pay very well and hire way more people. There just aren't enough infosec experts to go around.

    • @wolfk.l.5582
      @wolfk.l.5582 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      @decastring False. It takes one attack to be successful by one person. It takes a ton of money resources and man power to mitigate risk (likelihood and impact) and respond to them so it's far more complex and difficult. And that's just one aspect, you haven't even mentioned involvement with compliance regulations, framework and involvement and initiatives like VM with patching that are also applicable. So blue team and non red team security people are paid extremely well and salaries are increasing.

    • @xoxoxo-42
      @xoxoxo-42 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      lol way too many noobs trying to pass as experts is why we have a shortage. It takes time and complete immersion to learn these skills. AI is just another tool in the bag and if blue team is using it better believe red team is too

    • @mja9376
      @mja9376 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      There's not a shortage. Companies will not give jobs to entry-level workers. They only want experts. Even the experts started from somewhere

  • @TheJoBlackos

    This data collection/correlation thing will just prevent from low quality botnets or low complexity attacks. The downside of the models also is that they are based on already known behaviors, so if we are hopping this will help us close the gap I am pretty sure some people will be surprised how poor this will be against well prepared attacker.

    WOW - Love how he said there is a short fall in talent. Then couple mins later he says AI is there to fill in gaps. That short fall in talent is what gives people negotiating power when applying for a job and getting a "LIVING" wage. You will not get that if all the gaps are filled. CEO's think in terms of cost. If those gaps are filled, kiss those jobs goodbye or wages will drop.

    I have been a Splunk SME for about 15 years now. I get to see all the data types that go into Splunk. I seldom see people care about their data, just that some is flowing.
    For the few people who care about their data, very few care about other data.
    I was involved with a project that merged data sets from different sources. I had to give up due to the above reasons. This project was picked up at a higher level a year later and VP support. After a few months, the project was canceled for the above reasons.
    When talking about merging data sets, this is a very difficult people problem.

      What are you talking about? That's the whole point of splunk. Normalize everything, then hunt and correlate. And once you mature, go to risk-based or heuristic detection. What you said got cancelled is the entire point of splunk. (Don't get me wrong, I personally hate splunk for my situation. But it works. After a fashion.

Learning a pattern only helps so much because all an attacker has to do is attack the holes in that pattern recognition. And that's all this crap is, pattern recognition.

      I think we need to make open source programs the norm and legal programs encripted for those who wish to part take in them because for it to be legal there must be a contract and concent therefore legal codes statuse n sh!t like that should not apply to all of our transactions online because what ppl do is all private. what CORPORATIONS DO IS ALL PUBLIC SO what ppl do with a corporation that's on them but the rest of the info MUST be private.
      we should stop allowing these oportunists from becoming our Techno-gods by selling us a pretty GUI wtf!!
      All of theses operating systems are created in linux. why cant we use linux and create our own apps, kinda like the android revolution but this time we go straight to the source-code and not another pretty GUI.
      we could even use AI to create the apps that we need for our particular business or to create our personalized computer, tv, phone or tablet GUI and all the apps that everybody makes should be free and open source for everybody to use and tweak. I bet that would even bring the concept of crimes out the pictures because we have everything why would we steal it?

    I have decades of experience in I.T. Helpdesk, but just getting started in Cybersecurity.
    And I have some initial observations and questions.
    Q- as A.I becomes more efficient in security, is the goal to put Cybersecurity professionals out of a job?
    Q- We are encouraged to learn Linux, Python, Bash, Active Directory, Cloud, Powershell, all the Kali Tools… yet %90 of security breaches happen via payloads from phishing, or physical pen test.
    Most WiFi networks are well protected, most Metasploit targets are patched…
    It “seems” like the current model of learning is obsolete.
    Aren’t we in the need of updating restructuring the PenTesting model?
    (I could be wrong)

      Well, AI right now is like a snapshot of a digital brain (SORT OF, it's really a bot...), and you are able to run queries against it. You can use this snapshot to sort of process all network logs and give you an overall idea of what's going on. To do this, you need to be familiar with all of these concepts. And while it comes to a point where you do it so often that you start to feel like you are not doing a lot of work, it turns out, this familiarity is actually what makes you valuable. The moment you get too comfortable in your job for 90% of the time, congratulations you are now a professional.
      *BUT* to answer your question, they put a *LOT* of emphasis in this video on AI only, and the interviewee appears in a lot of other videos simply promoting the idea that AGI is coming our way. So to answer your question, *YES* this guy is definitely following an agenda to convince everyone that they are not that important and that AI can replace them any time soon.
      They *ARE* saying exactly that, that the goal is to put most workers out of a job, in a passive aggressive way.
      Wether this will come to pass, is very different, but the interest is there and it's coming from the rich people, make of that what you may.
      Since the start of this movement, developers are trying harder "not to be replaced" and tend not to ask for a raise or move to another high-paying job, because "now they are not as valuable and can get replaced".
      So there are nuanced incentives like this to convince people that a plagiarism bot can replace their jobs, if a little bit of publicity turns their tide in the big tech companies favour.
      The main take here, the purpose I'm writing this, my very suggestion, is to be very wary of what news you take to heart, because praising AI over human expertise was never the goal, and the people who do that are manipulating information to follow an agenda, and this information is most likely partially truthful at most, and dangerous rather than benefitial to your progression.
      Keep well and always respect your work and dedication for what it is, a life-long purpose.

Now that I've been studying cybersecurity AI has potentially taken over this. I already work in a warehouse with robots 🤖. This won't stop me but you can't learn and practice one thing about cybersecurity without 5 more things popping up.

    All great but for one fallacy, AI takes a lot of computer power and training data and for now the big players are charging money to run your queries through their AI clouds. This is simply not an option for companies that need to protect PII (most do). If you put all of your companies emails through this then someone somewhere will be able to read it. That is today. Some providers like Microsoft bundle it with Azure and o365 which is linked (theoretically) to some private cloud instance but again using public API. A lot of changes need to happen before large companies' defenders will make this reality. Meanwhile threat actors already have a huge jump ahead. It's going to be an interesting next few years. Thanks David for another great vid!

    It will take care of the boring simple and known attacks, which is good because like he said in the interview it will free the time of the researchers.

Even if i give all 75 of those to 35 million AI. They still only listen to me if I know the secret password! Like, wrong way to go about this my friend... Plus this idea of, oh, well if all three of these things are all going like this, it has to be illegal! or whatever. but by order of eliminations, there is still only one thing done at a time and if out of line. our firewalls are all over it. There is no workforce shortage. There is, however, a shortage of businesses willing to mitigate that "shortage" by rapidly upskilling existing employees to meet their skills demands. Don't complain when they leave to work at another company, INCENTIVISE RETAINING THEM! Try rewarding staff who upskill, not just by giving them an existing job, but by offering more than you'd pay an external hire.
