LOVE that place. I first went there in 1977. Every time I have made the trip from Ct. to Fl. I stop here. My 2 kids love it as much as I do having been there with me a few times. Stayed over night there several times, nice indoor pool and hot tub. Was there last Sept. Alot has changed and it does look a bit run down. No more Post Office. In the late 90's for a year or 2 they had several small buildings with slot machines. Like you I have never seen the rides operating. My wife still uses her South of the Border ash tray. Thanks.
Wow stay over night. I heard bad things about that. I’m not that brave. Haha. I also haven’t ate at South of the Border. But it’s a very cool place to check out.
Loved the video! I have only been here once in my life I was probably 13 or so. It's nice when people stop to keep the place in business. Love ya brother and tell the family we said hello 👋
In 1991 I was driving from Florida to Quebec with my uncle and while he was driving I was half asleep and I opened my eyes and saw this I thought I was having a weird dream 😮
Good Video and memories, I remember on one of my trips down to Florida , stopping there and they had a casino but it was sort of strange, very dark inside. I remember there being a Motel, never stayed there.
I agree with you. Drove with the parents to Orlando from Maryland down 95 and we stopped, but I remember as a kid, there was so much X rated stuff around that I thought "can't wait to dump the parents." A mystery to me to this day about this stop, though I've been there! Often time, mystery items are closed 'temporarily.' Smart businessperson would say this means 'see you later'
An independent company modernized the elevator awhile back. Pigeons used to get in the elevator machine room making it a health hazard because of bird 💩.

I watched a documentary on South of the Border. The casino was very short lived.
