While the story itself was yappy sometimes, it overall was really great, and I do believe it is precisely because of the characters being actually so good. Black Swan and Acheron are definitely the best imo.
@@mooseoncaffeine yes exactly my thoughts as well. While the dialogue could definitely be trimmed down, the character work is so good that I’m willing to give it a slight pass
Shaoji always delivered with making interesting characters. Yes his writing sometimes can be a drag with his phylosophical mindset, but I believe that also why his characters felt deep and interesting.
Oh yes Shaoji is a good writer, Penacony makes that very apparent. Currently making my way through HI3's story so hopefully I can eventually make it to Elysium Realm
I am officially free from everything tomorrow. So I know damn well what I am gonna be having on my laptop while I study for my new classes lets gooooo Also, thank you for having me for this video!
I had no clue you're getting a degree in creative writing! That's awesome, dude! It really shows with your skill of script writing! They're all well-paced and intriguing. Only a few minutes in, but I'm hooked! Can't wait to finish this video as well as your other ones~~
I do love when i ask someone a simple yes or no question and then they go on an hour long tanget about how they had lunch once and how similar it is to life and society, and then only say one thing that relates to the story
I realize more and more that the players of HSR do not subscribe to the storytelling style that the game they play uses. HSR's lore building (including the characters and the fictional setting itself), above all, is deeply rooted in philosophical debate and reflection. It's a character-driven story with an egregious amount of detail in the worldbuilding, and as such, that will reflect in the dialogue that the game will have. What I'm observing is that players want in-your-face, "tell don't show" and quick storytelling, which comes into conflict with the game's commitment to making lore content that takes time to process, has nuance, and is thought-provoking. Dialogue might have characters explain themselves and their thinking too much or use too many metaphors, etc., but it's only really because the game's main selling points are character moments, lore reveals and such.
Imo, Wardance/Borisin escape is better than Penacony. There is no fakeout deaths without consequenses (Jiaoqiu does lose his eyesight, after all.) Really, the biggest issue is probably the preceptors getting less focus than they should have. But with the story happening in such a short in-universe time, the quest could have been bloated and the surprisingly nice pacing would have been lost. The lack of a regional token love interest for the trailblazer also helps the cast to feel more like actual charachters and not just attempts to force emotional attachment. Old charachters also get a lot of deserved development and/or screentime, mainly Yanqing and the judge sisters.
@shiromatsunoki last time I read his character story was back when he was still in beta in 2.1, but I'm pretty sure the English version doesn't mention their gender and that it's more clear in the Chinese.
You know, I can imagine that Ryuuku Sensei and his Goons would get super mad when they see this Video. And I would laugh my ass off seeing them getting triggered by this. But, that happens when you have no Comprehension Skills and the Attention Span of a 5 Year old. 😂 I can agree that Penacony was extremely good, but I wonder if Amphoreus will even top that. Now, the Storytelling of HSR isn't flawless. I recently played through the Story of Wuthering Waves when it came on PS5, and I can admit its Storytelling is better, but nothing special either despite it has more Animations than in HSR. Like, other Games I played were better in that. Still, the Story of HSR is very interesting and engaging to follow. And the Characters have very interesting Backgrounds, like Feixiao, Sunday, Aventurine and Firefly were some of the best, imo. I still got like 3 Hours of the 3.0 Story to play and I enjoy it so far.
@@sekirothegreatshinobi2332 I’ve seen Ryuuku Sensei’s video lol, I’m aware of his issues with penacony and a lot of them I agree with. he seems like a decent guy so I hope he and his fans can respect my opinion like how I respect his
@shiromatsunoki Maybe. But, whatever. I can say that HSR's Story and Writing are much better than Genshin's. I used to play it until 4.5 came and decided to quit it. And then I started playing HSR like a Week before 2.1 came out. Best Decision I made last Year.
Penacony was mid.... At best. There were a couple of bright moments like Acheron and Firefly,m stuff. but as a whole it was really not that good. I am glad Amphoreus seems to be somewhat better at least, cause Penacony was such a cringe.
It's shit, I don't understand any of it. Thnkfully amphoreus is much more dialgetic. MFs thought they were christopher nolan or some shit. Everyone just yapps and everyone is just so freaking boring.
Robin and the AE crew are quite literally either the most stupid people in Penacony or the most evil. The Order's barrier is gone and now if people die in the Dreamscape, they die irl as in being braindead. And Robin knew this, she was the one who told us about this and the reason why Jade won the deal for Penacony's share. So why in the living hell did she and the AE crew not tell the guests that if you die in the Dreamscape, you die irl. People lives are at stake here. Either shut down the Dreamscape so people won't know about the death thing or tell people that there is a risk of dying irl even if you are in the Dreamscape. Penacony's ending was made like it's a good thing to leave Penacony with Robin saying she's going on a vacation after the Charmony Festival accident and the AE crew saying goodbye to their friends without telling them that the Order's barrier is gone. That just leave a bad taste in my mouth.
