Honestly, I'm starting to get a "we really want to bring back Rock Raiders in some form but the execs/shareholders won't let us" vibe from LEGO's designers. Anyway, I'm the other way around with what I think would be a good change for this set's color pallet. For me, I feel like it's trying to stack two "cold" colors together and that's where the clash comes from. What I would have done is replaced the light aqua with something more neutral, like white or light stone gray. Build B is a perfectly proportioned minifigure-scale F1 car. That's a dig at how F1 cars have gotten so freakishly large, by the way.
After being skeptical of this set for quite a while because I realized light aqua was much more saturated than I thought and didn't have that nasty cool contrast with the red on the F1 racer, I finally bought it on clearance. I can totally concur with it feeling pleasantly playful and sturdy - and with buying multiples. If they had more at the store, that is. Oh well! Light Aqua is a really tricky color that I want to make work, but I've wondered about replacements as well, and one color I really liked next to red was Bright Light Blue. I may have to get the pieces and test it out. Same for Yellowish Green, but I'm just obsessed with that tone currently.
My wife puts little trays of beer in her garden to catch the slugs. I just wanted to warn you in case you felt compelled to go swimming in a large vessel of beer.
I love your videos! I always appreciate people with passion for older lego themes. The video has a nice flow, well timed visual jokes like the trojan horse build and overall solid quality. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I feel like I'm starting to hit a good stride with the pacing in my scripts - I'm glad to see that it's translating to the screen, as well! ❤️️
Swap the baby blue out for black and the A model is perfect as a vehicle for ninjago's Prime Empire soldiers, which is great given the fact that we never did get any vehicles for that faction outside of the show
Are you familiar with color theory? I think it could help with understanding the color combinations. Keep up the great work! You are the single most underrated channel on youtube platform
Indeed! At least the basics - I don't have any post secondary education on the subject though. I think the Street Racer is going for a sort of Split Complimentary approach to its colours, contrasting the Red against the Light Aqua and Dark Turquoise... within the limited hues Lego has available. Colour Theory is very similar to Music Theory in a lot of ways - I can explain Twelve-Tone Technique to someone, but even if they understand *why* a song sounds the way it does, it doesn't mean they'll automatically *like* the way it sounds. I think the same thing was happening here with my interaction with this set; I understood (at least on a basic level) why these colours were supposed to compliment each other, it just didn't work for me in the end. Your mileage may vary though! 😊
As a Bionicle fan, my version of all the pieces you want to see in Teal is getting a modern source of technic pin-axles in black. Those things are getting harder and harder to obtain, and they really smooth out the color schemes of Bionicles and Technic sets to replace the often attention drawing blue. The next piece that comes to mind are trans purple Bohrok eyes; they only come from one spybotics set which only has two. (trans yellow and trans bright green also only feature in one set each but those were Bionicles and thus far more common). The piece has had a surprising longevity, so I hope lego goes back and gives us more of those rare colors. Just this year they flooded us with pearl gold ones, which previously only appeared in Brutaka who is quite expensive nowadays and a knight's kingdom set released the same year, so I have hope.
I know what you mean! I’ve been running low on my childhood supply of those black pin axles and it sure doesn’t look like we’re getting any more in the future… 😩
I'd need to hunt it down, again, but there's actually an off-brand Technic car with a whole heaping TON of them in black. If you're not against using third party parts then I can hunt that down and toss the link here since I do know a couple of people that bought it and said the plastic quality was actually fairly good.
@@RRSlugger Well, if nothing else I'll take the heart as a sign of interest, so I'll toss it here for those interested. I actually found a bookmark I saved that was essentially this knockoff company's own version of Pick-A-Brick, so you can just buy a whole bunch of the pin-axles if you want, but I can't post the link since TH-cam just auto-censors them by deleting comments. I can say the website/company's name, though, which is Vonado. Just type "crossale" in the search bar, and the part shows up. They actually have that part in a lot of interesting colors LEGO's never made them in, like yellow, lime, medium azure, and olive green of all things, so I feel there's some great variety here depending on the colors of the build you're making.
As always I love the extra effort that goes into a video like this, it could have been boring, but not RR Slugger! RR Trojan Horse for the win love this set, and am planning on getting two for the parts myself I’m not much of a fan of the light aqua, but I do think it’s pretty similar to a white that’s close to turquoise
This thing is loaded with great Dark Turquoise parts! And the builds are fun too - I've probably built the "A" Model 3 or 4 times by now, haha. The last time I did, I was going "off book" in some sections. 😂
@@RRSlugger that’s great! Ever since I saw this car announcement in one of Jang’s reaction videos, I knew I had to get it. I was watching your videos by then and wanted to make Rock Raiders Mocs - I think I might even have pointed this car out to you at the time! Happy to be an AFOL in a time where I can easily indulge in this theme. I bet it’s been tough for a few years
@@RRSlugger you’re welcome! That comment paid dividends for me, though I’m sure you’d have found it eventually. I’m pretty sure you’ve got a psychic detector for turquoise Lego at this point
That color swap was quite good! I thought for sure it was about to get a Rock Raiders palette swap, though! I'm reminded of this channel every time I am working with dark teal parts in modern shapes. I was just sorting out some Dots tiles and one of the curve corner pieces was in dark teal; I thought to myself "I bet if RR Slugger has any of these Dots sets, it's this series 3 bag!"
Haha, thank you! I've got to be unpredictable sometimes, you know? Besides, I rarely ever get to work with Blue on this channel. 😅 Dots are great - I've got a few sets and have quite enjoyed them. 😊
Just re-watching the entire Rock Raiders series now that I've played the Rock Raiders game (remake) and understand all the references. I think I got the series number wrong in my initial comment. Ah well, one way or another, I got some dark turquoise curve tiles! Definitely looking forward to getting my childhood collection back and building some Rock Raiders stuff!
I found your channel recently after getting back into power miners and digging into it's predecessor. I admire your Passion for the theme as a whole and especially love your music.💛 I found your inquiry to the My Own Train line at 8:50 to be especially exciting seeing you own one as I owned a locomotive from the line in childhood as well, would be great to see a video on that old line with your unique video style. Cheers slugger!
Just discovered your channel and I'm now promptly watching every rock raiders video! Yesterday I dug into my closet and found my LEGO world club magazines from 1999-2000 which included many rock raiders builds and comics, have you got these mags too?
@@thoregrimm6042 Oh, it seems like, i was wrong. I thought, that putting a stud into a technic pin hole would cause too much stress between them, but Jamie Berard uses this on page 11 of his presentation about illegal techniques ("jameberard brickstress bf06"). On page 12, he says, that "Technic holes are slightly smaller than those of System", so its not directly illegal, but you shouldnt do it with more than one stud
No kidding! I was super stoked to see him comment there! We've been chatting over Discord for a bit now and he shared a lot of neat details about designing the Rock Monster Truck; sounds like the black on black wheels were definitely meant to be a callback to Rock Raiders! 😊
Back when this set had just came out my friends and I were in the local(40 minute drive 😅) lego store and someone asked to buy 20 of them! I have no idea why, wether an investor or reseller looking to part it out, that was the most memorable part of my day for sure
Yeah it doesn’t always work for me. Though, on the flip side that’s a classic real life color match. Remember those old cup patterns with the squiggly lines? That comparison makes me like the color combination more
Totally fair! My brother gave me the same feedback, haha. He said it was the Red that was the crux of the problem. In the end, at least for me, I think there are 3 main colours in this model - none of which work particularly well with each other, haha. Swapping ONE colour out was feasible... swapping TWO colours out would be a lot more involved. 😅
honestly i like the mint and teal look. it's the red that feels off imo. but i'm not sure what a good alt color for that would be. i want to say flame orange because orange/green is an underrated combo. but that might be just as jarring
Hey Slugger, Firstly I want to say you make great content keep it up. Speaking of parts. Recently I got into Bricklink in order to feed my addiction to Rock Raiders parts and sets. I was browsing parts then a strange idea popped up that maybe you can build further around. As you may know most Rock Raider crew heads were re-used in sets from different series, especially Spark's face. His face popped up really frequently in Lego sets from 2000 to 2006. oddly enough those themes are always either Lego Movie Studios, Racers, or Lego football. What if the Rock Raiders got home back safely from planet U and became either movie studios workers or professional racers🤔 Here are some similarities I found by looking up their respective heads on bricklink. Bandit was featured in 1 racers set. Docs was featured in multiple movie studios sets as camera man. Sparks was featured in a lot of racers movies and football sets. Mainly as stuntman. Axel was featured in 1 City set as pilot. Jet was.. Never featured outside of Rock Raiders sets? Does this mean she never escaped from planet U? 😭 Let me know your view on the fate of the Rock Raiders. Keep up the good work.
I love this idea! I've been planning on making a "What Ever Happened To The Rock Raiders?" type video ever since the 4990 episode and have been collecting parts/sets to do so with. Thing is, I now have so many that I don't think it makes sense to lump them all into the same video... I will probably do them as separate set reviews (kind of like this one), but tie them back to Rock Raiders and the original concept. Nonetheless, I look forward to starting on *that* project as well! So many projects on the go, haha 😅
Whenever I see a car with the dark turquoise pieces I think, hmm is that Axle’s car? I also noticed a tiny set in an old catalog that had Axle driving a little stunt car, it might have been for the Studios theme? I also noticed a Sparks head in one of those Studio sets, I like to think either Rock Raiders was a movie and those figures were actors, or that Axle and Sparks got a job in Hollywood after getting off that planet. I prefer the latter, I made a car based on the old adventurers ones and detailed it with rock raiders flair and used some extra pieces from this giant Volkswagen camper to give it a yellow California license plate and VW hubcap, infused LORE into this little car I built on a lark while organizing my old pieces.
The F1 racer does use a number of the teal bricks, but it hides them well - you could always supplement other coloured bricks from your own collection to use the teal bricks elsewhere though!
Hey Slugger this is another comment about Rebrickable but I promise I'm not doing some weird underground marketing for them haha. If you're already making instructions for MOCs you should consider uploading over there. Not just the regular instructions but also videos like the videogame building recreations as the site accepts video instructions too. I see a few Lego TH-cam channels use Rebrickable to help spread their MOCs and advertise their channels so it may be worth doing.
Amazing content slugger! In my personal opinion I like the main colour scheme for the build as the extremely light blue-ish (I do not know the name for it) colour is extremely unique for Lego as is a perfect balance between white and light blue for me :D I think you have convinced me to buy this set!
Thank you! I think Jang hit the nail right on the head - it’s a polarizing colour scheme; it’s going to really work for some folks and not for others. 😊
After watching this video and seeing set #60386 Recycling Truck in the background of one of your other videos. I can't help but wonder whenever I see a set that features teal to some degree, if R.R. Slugger has that one too. 31135 Vintage Motorcycle comes to mind
I just got this Street Racer set. I built the C model Hot Rod but gave it the engine and side exhausts from the A model. At least then I wasn't left over with the massive pile of pieces as if I had built it by the main instructions.
That's awesome! I made a couple more recolors of this set and showed them off in one of my "Slugger Update" videos, if you're interested - I think it was number 3 or 4? 🤔
Haha, I wasn't surprised but appreciated this video very much. Already bought 3 Rock Monsters by your recommendation. I think one Steet Racer would be enough (it's never tho)
¡Nice look at the cars! Real good how many teal parts are appearing and reappearing. Now if only old grays came back in the form of new variants for gray, as Lego currently gives each color more and more shades.
Wow! Polarizing indeed; while I don't absolutely love teal and light aqua, I'm not as big a fan of the teal and blue combination. On the other hand, I think teal and light aqua would work better on either a building, or a full train of coaches. I did originally take an interest in this set as a parts pack, but unfortunately that interest died out within a couple of weeks.
To me, what’s funny about the colours here is that I think the Dark Turquoise/Light Aqua looks better in photographs than it does in person, whereas I find the opposite is true of the Dark Turquoise/Blue combo. Nonetheless, I did order some new parts to try *yet another* colour combo out…! 😅
I appreciate the attention drawn to the lack of 1×3 slope bricks (or any slope bricks for that matter). I understand that times and interests change but it's bizarre and even a little disheartening seeing a family of pieces I considered a key building block (I'm not sorry) of set composition fading away. Smooth and round is all well and good but it's not what I think of when I think of Lego.
It doesn't help that Teal was out of the active rotation for a long time. Only since late 2016 has it been making a comeback, but the past two years have been especially strong with many of the newest part molds getting released in teal right out of the gate. I think it's only a matter of time before a theme like Friends or Classic gives us a few new slopes for Teal builders.
I'm hopeful that some of these bricks will just "happen" again. After all, we've actually already been seeing that with Dark Turquoise 1x4 tiles and 2x6 plates; the latter of which just came out again a couple of months after I started making these videos, it's that recent! I thought I'd include the wishlist here on the off chance it could make a difference though. 😊
excellent video! I wonder if lego would ever bring the old grays back even for a limited time, for some reason I really enjoy the old grays as compared to their modern counterparts
I *strongly* doubt we will ever see the old grey hues come back. Lego even did a "retro minifigure" line somewhat recently with some castle figures, and even those minifigures used the new colours for grey/brown. As sterile as the new grey colours are, they have proven to stand the wears of time much better than the old greys have.
Hahaha, I'm curious now too! 😅 Well, I've never sold any Lego before, so anything you've seen in my videos is still here. Honestly, I have no idea how I would even start to estimate... I do have at least 1 of every set from Rock Raiders, Time Cruisers, Life On Mars, Spyrius, UFO, Exploriens, Ice Planet, Galidor, Roboforce, Alpha Team... maybe others? I think you can expect some sort of video content on at least those themes!
I love the original coloor scheme. Not a big fan of the blue with the red, unless dark turquoise were swapped out with something else like yellow. I think an all red and white version could look slick
ayo! The moment i saw Jet's outfit you gave her at 2:22 i instantly thought it was cool as all hell, and now i am DYING to know where that torso print came from cuz i love it! Is it even official lego or a custom?
Wicked! I had to wait almost a year after that torso print was announced before I was able to get my hands on it, but I knew from the moment I saw it who was going to get to wear it! 😊
nooooo how could you hate light aqua?? 😭its one of the best lego colours!! this makes me want to see a slugger colour tier list.... great video as always!
My dark turquoise wishlist includes a Minecraft steve torso i wrote some code to determine the closest lego colour to an inputted rgb colour (maybe i should put that on a website somewhere) and it agreed with me that dark turquoise would be a way more accurate shirt colour than cyan
I wonder if the majority of this set's parts could be used to make a unique, more rock raiders specific vehicle. Probably not perfectly but it seems interesting. Fantastic video
Yeah, the only pieces I'd salvage for Rock Raiders would be the Dark Turquoise bits. I considered doing a Rock Raiders inspired colour scheme swap for this video, but ultimately that would involve *removing* much of the Dark Turquoise because there's just too much teal here, even for Rock Raiders. I will be mentioning this point in a future video, but Rock Raiders sets are mostly grey - I think the eye likes to gravitate towards the other colours though and that might be what leads to (in my opinion) unbalanced colour schemes in many RR MOCs or inspired builds.
@@RRSlugger Ah, thats too bad. It'd be really great to see what people can do with the rock raiders theme now that one of its most iconic colors has gotten so many new parts. I know you've shown a few customs before but I guess the desire has more to do with seeing how the theme could see a more smooth and refined feel that some modern lego sets have, at least only slightly. Perhaps if more of its colors see similar resurgences, it might be more feasible. Oh well, just food for thought
@@Robot_Eva Interesting! I guess I've just long held the opinion that Rock Raiders and Lego's new curvy look are just incompatible with each other, but maybe it's worth exploring...? Definitely food for thought!
@@RRSlugger this is why i like you, slugger. You are genuinely passionate about lego and i always enioy having a discussion with you on it. Truly fantastic channel that i hope will inspire many others to share their genuine passion for lego as well
What a video! What a set! I will be honest, I don't see much of a direct Rock Raiders connection, but I do see a connection within the fanbase; since the same guy designed a more overt Rock Raiders tribute, it's pretty clear that he must've drawn at least some inspiration from Rock Raiders for this car. I'm gonna heartily disagree with you on the Light Aqua, though; I love that color, it's so nice! Now, in THIS set, I'm not sure I like it, but just as a color? I find it delightful. It really surprised me to see piece #62361 in Dark Turquoise; I associate that piece pretty much exclusively with the 60's Batmobile in Black, but I saw it multiple times in different colors in this video. Maybe I don't buy as much LEGO as I should. Also, that thing you said about filler pieces being multiple colors is so true! The previously mentioned Batmobile has yellow on the bottom? What the heck? Yellow is only a Batman color on his chest! And knowing how common the multi-color filler pieces are, it does make this set very, very respectable and cool for restricting itself to something like 5 colors (aqua, dark turquoise, red, black, and... yellow? I don't remember). I wish all LEGO sets did that. I also wish all LEGO sets still had alternate builds. What you said about Rock Raiders having alternate builds in another video and how LEGO don't do them all that much any more reminded me of how much I used to see them, and it made me think that maybe I miss that. Also, a random fun fact: "Willys", when referring to the company that built the original Jeeps, is pronounced "Willis", like the name; Willys was the founder's last name. A random thing I know from years of being interested in Jeeps. Seeing the Fabuland characters again also reminded me that I'd love a series on them, maybe after Life on Mars, though, of course, Ice Planet 2002 would also be a great one to look at. I'm not sure. Just at some point, I would love to see it. It's a part of LEGO's history I know literally nothing about. If I were to buy this set for maximum efficiency, I would buy 5 sets: 1 to keep sealed as a collection piece, 3 to assemble each model, and 1 to part out so the unique pieces and uncommon pieces can be used for other things. Of course, if you wanted to be scum, you could purchase as many as you wanted to resell the set in full or to sell the individual pieces. But I am not a rich man, so I will not be doing that. This car, as neat as it is, is not to minifigure scale, which is a big thing for me. I like minifigures and messing with them. The monster truck I can justify; It's smaller than a minifig-scale truck would be, so I can pass it off as some kind of attraction (in my dream LEGO City that will never be built, I would have it be a remote control sort of thing; surrounded by Rock Raiders references, of course). The LEGO art sets, the flowers, and the architecture sets I can pass off as public works of art, but this car is bigger than minifig cars. Who would make a sculpture of a car that's bigger than the car? That breaks my suspension of disbelief. Plus, the one model that I like above all the rest, Model C, leaves a ton of spare pieces, which I don't like because I currently don't have a place to put them. I could build the other models, but I don't like the look of them as much. Plus I'm trying to not spend money, so picking up any set that I'm not 100% invested in is hard to justify to myself right now. I probably won't pick this one up. Or at least, not yet. As a humorous aside, I need you to stop reviewing sets that are currently on store shelves; I am not a rich man. (that's a joke) Thanks for this video! I like random videos on smaller sets that can be connected to what you're talking about, but are also just fine on their own. Moreover, I'm happy that you're making videos about things you just pick up and like; I really appreciate and respect that, rather than sticking to like a schedule or plan or something. Adds the labor of love feeling to this channel. I'm always grateful to get more Dark Turquoise pieces, so thanks for letting me know where to get them! Thanks for the excellent content and I can't wait for the next video!
Another amazing comment - thank you for the great read! Let me *try* to respond to it all! 😅 The "Rock Raiders Connection" with this set is definitely a pretty flimsy case that I'm trying to make, haha. I don't blame you for not buying into it. I think I've already made my opinion on Light Aqua clear, haha, but I'm glad to hear it has some fans! I think it's a matter of give and take when it comes to those multi-coloured filler bricks. I build a lot of sets from the 90's, and you don't have to go back that far in that decade until you get to some incredibly obtuse designs (Ice Planet is full of them). I'm glad modern Lego sets put more thought into the building experience, even if it is sometimes at the expense of multi-coloured "guts" in a set. There's surely a balance to be struck though, and I think it's different for every builder. Thanks for the tip on "Willys"! I did not know that, having only read the name in print. ❤️️ Yeah, I know what you mean - this set can be a bit of a tough sell. If the colour scheme wasn't polarizing enough, the scale surely will be. I had fun with it (enough to buy two, haha), but if you don't have a bunch of Fabuland figures lying around, I'm not sure who is supposed to interact with this one. Haha, I think only this video and the Rock Monster Truck have been new sets - all the rest of my videos have been for sets that retired 20+ years ago, lol. There's honestly a ticking clock when it comes to making these videos for new sets! I'm obviously not trying to rush out and get a video up for release day of a set, but I think it's important to get it done before the set retires. Looks like I missed the boat on Barracuda Bay! 😅 Thank you again!
@@RRSlugger I 100% agree! Having looked at some of the older sets (through your videos, funnily enough) LEGO have produced, some of those designs are a bit ridiculous. I guess the answer is to make pieces in new colors, something I'm sure nobody would complain about! Speaking of scale, however, I did have a thought: could this car be in scale with the black truck build you featured a little while ago? The one that had the steering connected to the spare tire. (Though I would love to have some Fabuland laying around). And I completely feel you on that ticking clock. I'm fighting so hard to try and scrape enough together to be able to pick up the big fancy LEGO sets that I want that are rumoured to retire this year, but I remember from experience (the TARDIS) that, if you wait too long, you might finally get it all, only to find the set retired. It's very stressful and sad; if only I could've afforded it a year ago. Oh, well. And you're welcome!! Sometimes you just gotta say "I've never heard this word, so I guess it's pronounced like this", and I certainly don't fault you for trying! It's not a common thing to pick up; it IS an odd spelling, after all.
I’m still pretty tempted to go back and try replacing the Light Aqua pieces with Yellow or Light Bright Orange on that F1 model. That, plus the Red, I think would look pretty great!
Honestly I’m not a massive fan of the technic pieces in this set. I see that and there’s a constant reminder in my brain saying “that doesn’t belong there” for some reason. Maybe it’s cuz they’re trying to be car parts as apposed to some kind of function or building utility but it just makes my brain say no. Also I personally prefer the light bluish green. I feel it goes well with turquoise as they are both meshes of blue-green except one is significantly brighter. Also it’s a much less produced colour then most and even turquoise as of right now.
The curvy nature of modern lego really is bothersome. Angular lego is where it's at - and I have no nostalgic attachment to angular lego, I just think it better suits its core construction principle.
Haha, I don't think I am..! I guess it depends what you're comparing it to; I think it's a less stark contrast than the colours we see in the stock set, at the very least. 😅
The sheer audacity... I salute you!
If I haven't been blacklisted from Lego yet, this will do it. Hahaha 😅
Honestly, I'm starting to get a "we really want to bring back Rock Raiders in some form but the execs/shareholders won't let us" vibe from LEGO's designers.

I can live with the blue Pin-Axles. But I absolutely can't live with the 1x1 red axles that seem to have completely replaced all the black ones.
@@ToaKoran Can you at least name the company?
As always I love the extra effort that goes into a video like this, it could have been boring, but not RR Slugger! RR Trojan Horse for the win
love this set, and am planning on getting two for the parts myself
I’m not much of a fan of the light aqua, but I do think it’s pretty similar to a white that’s close to turquoise
I bet it’s been tough for a few years
@@empatheticrambo4890 Indeed! I remember your comment recommending I check it out - it was the first I had heard of this set, so thank you! 😊
@@RRSlugger you’re welcome! That comment paid dividends for me, though I’m sure you’d have found it eventually. I’m pretty sure you’ve got a psychic detector for turquoise Lego at this point
@@empatheticrambo4890 My partner says that I probably have all of the Dark Turquoise in the city where we live, hahaha. 😅
Dots are great - I've got a few sets and have quite enjoyed them.
I admire your Passion for the theme as a whole and especially love your music.💛
I found your inquiry to the My Own Train line at 8:50 to be especially exciting seeing you own one as I owned a locomotive from the line in childhood as well, would be great to see a video on that old line with your unique video style.
Cheers slugger!
I might cover my own train one of these days! I don’t have any 9V rails to show it off though…
@R.R. Slugger High hopes for a cheap eBay Lego 9v track lot.
A 9v battery is always a backup in low of a controller!
You know those Purple & Turquise paper cups from the 90’s with that squiggly pattern?
That’s what your Blue and Turquoise recolor evokes for me
From the first glimpse I knew what catched your attention for this set;) Great review
maybe it's my screen but the red against the turquoise REALLY reminds me of trans neon orange if it were opaque. Now I really want that color for real
Just discovered your channel and I'm now promptly watching every rock raiders video!
Yesterday I dug into my closet and found my LEGO world club magazines from 1999-2000 which included many rock raiders builds and comics, have you got these mags too?
Nice! I don’t think I have physical copies of those, but they have been scanned and archived online. 😊
6:35 But the video gets 100 points for using a sound effect from the Lego creator PC game.
It was too funny not to use, hahaha. 😂
Another great review, Slugger! Loved seeing in-depth coverage of a specific LEGO color's history.
Really cool video I do hope we get those pieces in those colors too :)
Rocket Racer, nice.
Oh, and there is an illegal building technique in the C-Model (the small wheel on top of the motor)
Illegal in what way?
@@thoregrimm6042 Oh, it seems like, i was wrong. I thought, that putting a stud into a technic pin hole would cause too much stress between them, but Jamie Berard uses this on page 11 of his presentation about illegal techniques ("jameberard brickstress bf06"). On page 12, he says, that "Technic holes are slightly smaller than those of System", so its not directly illegal, but you shouldnt do it with more than one stud
At work today and a mother bought this set for her kid, it was quite funny seeing the Kid making engine Revving sounds to himself.
Awww that’s great!! ❤️
Enjoyed the video as always! It's cool that the actual designer commented on a video!
No kidding! I was super stoked to see him comment there! We've been chatting over Discord for a bit now and he shared a lot of neat details about designing the Rock Monster Truck; sounds like the black on black wheels were definitely meant to be a callback to Rock Raiders! 😊
@@RRSlugger Awesome!
I love the vintage car build feels like a classic late 90s set if im being honest.
Back when this set had just came out my friends and I were in the local(40 minute drive 😅) lego store and someone asked to buy 20 of them! I have no idea why, wether an investor or reseller looking to part it out, that was the most memorable part of my day for sure
Whoa! 20 is a lot..! 😮
@@RRSlugger it was you wasn’t it
Somehow I'm not digging the bright blue modification, the hues are just too similar. Oh, well, to each their own I guess.
Hey Slugger,
Firstly I want to say you make great content keep it up.
What if the Rock Raiders got home back safely from planet U and became either movie studios workers or professional racers🤔
Here are some similarities I found by looking up their respective heads on bricklink.
Let me know your view on the fate of the Rock Raiders.
The back of the C model seems to be pretty customisable, one could make a spoiler or a roof for it... I would just slap some weaponry on it.
Very tempting to pick up a handful of these, build just the F1 racer, and savor the wealth of teal
The F1 racer does use a number of the teal bricks, but it hides them well - you could always supplement other coloured bricks from your own collection to use the teal bricks elsewhere though!
Really nice video man ^^
Tho I must say, I prefer the og color scheme.
say whaaaaaaat
Totally fair! At times, I do too, but I'd already bought the pieces so I was committed, haha. 😅
It's a good recommendation, thanks! 😊
I love these videos.
One of my favorite TH-camrs fr
Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. ❤️
Love those little Rock Monster Trucks! 😄
¡Nice look at the cars!
Real good how many teal parts are appearing and reappearing. Now if only old grays came back in the form of new variants for gray, as Lego currently gives each color more and more shades.
Got 2 sets myself ;)
My deuteranopia essentially solves the problem of not liking certain colors or combinations, as I don't see them clash!
As sterile as the new grey colours are, they have proven to stand the wears of time much better than the old greys have.
do you plan on showing your rock raiders mocs in more detail? whenever one pops up in a video i am always very interested.
You can find them all on my Instagram page! 😊
@@RRSlugger thanks man, i absolutely love the aesthetic of them
I am curious: How big is your lego collection, how many sets would you estimate you own?
Hahaha, I'm curious now too! 😅
Well, I've never sold any Lego before, so anything you've seen in my videos is still here.
3x1 slope exists now :D
That they do! I’m super excited!! 😊
Is it even official lego or a custom?
nevermind i finally found it literally seconds after sending this comment lol
Wicked! I had to wait almost a year after that torso print was announced before I was able to get my hands on it, but I knew from the moment I saw it who was going to get to wear it! 😊
Heck yeah! I love your stuff
Thank you!! ❤️
nooooo how could you hate light aqua?? 😭its one of the best lego colours!!
this makes me want to see a slugger colour tier list....
great video as always!
Different strokes for different folks! A Lego colour tier list would be a lot of fun actually! Hmm… 🤔
My dark turquoise wishlist includes a Minecraft steve torso
i wrote some code to determine the closest lego colour to an inputted rgb colour (maybe i should put that on a website somewhere) and it agreed with me that dark turquoise would be a way more accurate shirt colour than cyan
Love your videos Slugger!
Thank you! ❤️️
The Aqua amd Darl Turquoise seems to have been taken form a 50s or 60s car
Indeed! Very "sea-foam green" like, in a way. 😊 It's kind of a shame that the Hot Rod model doesn't pit the two together and ditch the Red...

Really like your review style. Very unique :). How about a Blacktron (black-yellow) review?
Thank you! ❤️
I don’t have any Blacktron unfortunately, but one day that could change!
Alright I’m going to try and buy one of these on the way home.
I love our high adventures !
(that's a joke)
Thanks for this video!
The "Rock Raiders Connection" with this set is definitely a pretty flimsy case that I'm trying to make, haha.
Yeah, I know what you mean - this set can be a bit of a tough sell.
Thank you again!
How do I see the dark turquoise wishlist?
Will you review 3-in-1 Vintage Bike?
Probably not, to be honest. Besides the dark turquoise color, the build doesn’t seem that appealing to me. 😕
I'm gonna have to dock a full 35 points for not being able to fit the Scala and Galidor figures.
Hahaha, that's great - I *might* have to steal that for a future script! 😂😂
Hey slugger! (Not you, the mascot) keep it up!
Haha, thank you! ❤️️
You should replace the stripes with dark grey and the red with yellow. Then it could be full rock raiders!
Good call! I just might have to try that…
personally im a big fan of the stock colorscheme, at least on the A model. its a little bit garish on the F1 racer
I’m still pretty tempted to go back and try replacing the Light Aqua pieces with Yellow or Light Bright Orange on that F1 model. That, plus the Red, I think would look pretty great!
While I dont hate Dark Torquose and Aqua mix, the dark Blue replacement is more pronounced.
Yes! #2460! Please!
Fingers crossed!!
the blue looks kinda bad with the teal ngl
That’s what folks have been telling me, haha. I kinda like it though! 😅
I deffinetly prefer the original, the blue you used is just too deep for my taste. A more washed out blue would fit better imo
The curvy nature of modern lego really is bothersome. Angular lego is where it's at - and I have no nostalgic attachment to angular lego, I just think it better suits its core construction principle.
Blue looks AWFUL with DarkTurquoise. Seriously.
I can't fathom why you didn't use yellow, to begin with, or even brown where you could.
To each their own, I guess! 😅
I love the look of blue and dark turquoise together.
Dark Turquoise base plate anyone?
That would be neat to see!
Sluggar, are you color blind? Regular blue and turquoise are not at all subtle!
Haha, I don't think I am..! I guess it depends what you're comparing it to; I think it's a less stark contrast than the colours we see in the stock set, at the very least. 😅
