I worked in a chip shop while I was studying. A couple from America came in and could not believe it was really happening to them; screaming in our small market town “oh my god, it’s a real life fish and chip shop!” They took pictures out the front of the shop and nearly passed out with the taste sensation. Now I understand this reaction. Thanks Mac Master you legend! That has really cleared things up for me 👌
Lee, you're knocking the ball out of the park with your New York videos. Great content, entertaining and brilliant useful content. You've moved tonthe Premiership! Cheers Phil
One of your funniest reviews. Erm $5 tip before you've had the meal and have to put your own food in the bin? How does that work? I'd have asked for it back.
As someone who’s never been but brainwashed by TV, When I think of food in New York I think of, pizza, pies, cheese burgers, bagels, subway sandwiches to name a few, let’s see some reviews on these bud! 😃
Lee,that is the scabbiest looking piece of fish ever! It looks like a battered scorpion!! If that's the best they can give you then that is shocking. Knowing you were filming it... just wow. Lost for words. Gordon Ramsay forgives you 🤗
Those potato things are called scallops (not to be confused with the shellfish version). When done properly, they are delicious. The ones you were given, were not done properly.
Really appreciate that you do take the time to show us the city and the culture of the places you visit abroad ... Some of us may never have the opportunity to step foot in these places, so it is great to see, keep up the good work 👍🏻 and yes do also enjoy the food reviews 😁
Worst looking fish and chips I've ever set eyes on. The fish looked like it had been left out in the sun the way the tail was curled up. We appreciate you putting your stomach through all sorts of torture so we don't have to, though. Great video Lee 👍
Hi Lee. Thanks for another brill update. That looked truly hideous. When I first saw that fish, I thought it was a battered scorpion lol. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from Scotland.
Hi Lee, thank you again for your videos. Not too sure if you remember when I commented on one of your videos saying I had a food tube etc and was waiting for surgery. Well I am glad to announce, I am sat in Leicester Royal Infirmary recovering from my successful operation this morning. Your content is keeping me going through boredom and pain!!
All that walking to end up being served... whatever that was!... love the honesty in the review as always Lee... keep searching there must be some good Fish and chips to be found!...if for no other reason "Do it for Yorkshire!"...👍
Lee, that looked horrendous! I'd be fuming! When I saw the 'chips' the first thing I thought of was scallops like you said, haven't seen those in years (school dinners I think?) When I saw the batter I thought it must have been hungry as its eaten most of the fish!🤣
COME HOME PPLLEEAASSEE!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 You sure that place ain't called "The Shi*tery"? I could have done better by serving you a bag of MCoys and some Scampi Fries 🤣🤣🤣
UGH! Do you know what that 'fish' reminded me of? A dead scorpion which had been left out in the sun for the vultures to devour! And speaking of vultures, I wouldn't have fed that muck to my dogs! Why didn't you send the stuff back and demand a refund, Lee? Or do they not have customer satisfaction/rights in the USA? Marks out of 10 from me? You guessed it, ZERO!!! 🤮🤮🤮
Lee I would have left that on the table and got out of there. NYC is the only city I have visited where people are willing to pay so much for crap. Hunt down a place that make a good fried haddock dinner. Or come on up to Boston where we have great seafood.
Why the $5 tip? What was it for? It’s taken for granted so leads to worker exploitation. My mum worked in a fish and chip shop - called those round ones flitters (derived from fritters) - and they never sold mushy peas (that was for southerners and Yorkshire folk).
Oh, what a delightful culinary experience I had with the fish and chips you so graciously served. The cold temperature added such a thrilling element, as if I were indulging in a gourmet dish straight from the depths of Antarctica. The undercooked fish, with its raw charm, truly elevated the dining adventure to new heights, leaving me pondering whether I had stumbled upon a avant-garde approach to gastronomy. And let's not forget the unparalleled pleasure of the distinctly unpleasant taste, a symphony of flavors that danced upon my palate with the finesse of a poorly executed jazz performance.Your establishment has truly set a benchmark for an experience that I won't soon forget, albeit for all the wrong reasons. I must commend your dedication to pushing the boundaries of culinary mediocrity. It takes a special talent to create a dish that manages to disappoint on every conceivable level. In the spirit of encouragement, might I suggest embracing the radical notion of serving dishes that are, dare I say, enjoyable? A novel concept, I know. Perhaps invest in a thermometer to ensure food is cooked to an edible state and consider utilizing fresh ingredients to impart a flavor that doesn't induce involuntary shudders.I eagerly await the day when I can once again grace your establishment and witness the evolution of your culinary prowess. Until then, I shall carry the memories of this remarkable dining experience with me, like a badge of honor in the realm of gastronomic misadventures.
The train part you mentioned reminded of Die Hard 3..when Samuel L Jackson says to the security guy I've got to answer that phone.. plus crocodile Dundee 2 with the Chinese guy that say's that was Clint Eastwood lol
Oh my dayz Lee was that fish still wriggling when it hit the fat , cod really , don’t look like any cod I’ve seen and those chips WTF , have the owners actually tasted their own food , and the signage said secret batter recipe, really , it’s not hard to fry fish and chips
I love your channel, even as a 56 year old lad from Long Eaton. Keep it up. I’m even bought my Porsche 981 from Porsche Nottingham!! Really appreciate your New York insights as we are visit ing November. Keep up the brilliant work. @KevP 👍👍👍👍❤️🇬🇧😎
When l was growing up in Manchester 60 years go, the local chippies offered scallops as an alternative to chips. If l remember correctly, these were oval slices of potato approx.10mm thick fried in batter. Yum yum.
FYI Lee..There is a great Fish & Chip place in Lynhurst NJ a bit of a drive but worth it. “The Thistle “.. Scottish Famiy..great place ..cozy ..great fish & chips ..pretty sure haddock ..more of a little restaurant..formerly in Kearny NJ where a lot of the Scottish people immigrated to in the 50’s & 60’s..anyway great place for authentic British Fish & Chips..not sure about the mushy peas I know a fave of yours !!..not sure how long your here but maybe you can go another visit ..anyway ..enjoy your visit !!
At Kermit Weeks museum of flight when I visited there - the cafe did mushy peas!! Incidentally it had one of their aircraft with the Humberside county shield as well :D
What a sad meal! That fish was battered as in 'assaulted'. And the 'chips' were really crinkled sautéed potatoes. The food let-downs you endure for your art, Lee! Come on USA, surely you're better than this!
🤣The signage outside this place made it sound like you were in for a culinary masterpiece... But the Fish actually looked more like a giants ingrown toenail clipping... And the Chips didn't look much better... They were more like giant bunion skin scabs... 🤣 You couldn't pay me enough money to eat that slop mate... 🤮 Thanks for the review... All the best buddy... Cheers Lee. 🍺
English food in England? Why do you ignore the rest of the UK - Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all also have "real" fish and chip shops. And some of us Scots would claim that fish and chips in Scottish "chippies" is even better than that in England.
There must surely be enough British people who have worked in the UK chipshops, trying to make a new life in New York that they could all make a place that would work. It surely cant be that hard to have ONE good place.
Never seen you look so disappointed Lee,must admit it does not look very appetising at all 😄😂 and the chips look like crisps, great review and keep safe and well always.
Sorry you had to experience those haha....we don't do very good fish & chips, sadly. You mentioned you were going to California, my home state - have you been to Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica? They're British-run I think and they do fish & chips. Super cool place, essentially a pub with a British food store attached. 🇬🇧
Right never mind the crap fish and chips in New York you need to get back to Mansfield as Georges fish and chip shop at Lakeside near the Travel Lodge Sutton in Ashfield is now open. The folks of Mansfield are waiting for your review they do takeaway and sit down I want to know what it's like before I put my hand in my pocket.
Tipping in America is expected but its optional, some people never tip, the ordering and paying machines have a program called Toast, it pushes for tips, its how these App makers push the sales of these apps to restaurants, Tipping is a bait n switch CON, Restaurant owners don't want to pay a living wage, that's all it is and here in America its been allowed to flourish, I have to pay my employees a minimum wage so why shouldn't they? this is the power of lobbyists in America. It seems everybody expects a tip these days, just for doing a job they are paid for, starbucks pays very well but a tip is expected.
Lee, you can’t get “proper mushy peas” in the UK anymore. They’re out of a tin and heated up in a microwave. I remember when younger chippies having a stove/cooker at the back, on there they had peas cooking, then they’d drain them before being served. Also gravy was in a pan, remember Holland’s steak and kidney puddings? Sometimes called a suet pudding or rag pudding. It seems all gone now, all microwaved, I found a lovely Whitby fish and chips, not a big name but really good. I live down in Sussex and they have Huss on the menu, not a clue what that is. Also, a lot have skin on, which I don’t like. I think I’d give up to be honest, I also lived in Hove and I had a good chippy there, well 2 chippies who did good fish and chips 🍟
Great Vlog Lee, l am glad to say this but the best fish and chips come from over the pond in the UK especially Yorkshire 😅. Hi, been to America lots of , I know about tipping , I would have had the meal then May have tipped, ps where did get the bag from cheers , keep the good work up
They looked rather insipid. The fish was very thin (I reckon if you held it to the light you would see the light through it). The 'chips' were crinkle cut slices. Not appetising to look at. I rate them -1/10 especially at that price. We are spoilt here in Leeds.
Just lol. What's that frazzled up flattened horror? Wish you had taken them back and complained. Should have asked them do you get fish with that batter?
Hi Lee when I went to the Jersey City one it wasn’t that bad it was passable, that looked terrible,I’ve found that people in the states don’t eat peas never mind mushy peas. You better stick to Iconic places in NY and NJ I’ve really never had proper fish and chips inNy Nj take care
Eat what the locals eat, even they can do home cooking. Clam Chowder, Philly Cheese Steak, Biscuits & Gravy, Bagel & Lox or Pastrami on Rye with hot mustard. It's good stuff if you choose right.
I have walked into these places in the past normally after a few pints and just looking at the decor drunk as a lord I would turn round and look elsewhere..............🤠
I’ve been watching your channel since Benidorm (I follow B Enthusiast as I live in Spain). Only decent food I ate in the WHOLE of USA was in “China Town” New York, find a restaurant with a steaming dim sum trolley. Love your channel so much😊
They looked vile. Bottom line-if you want proper british grub, get it in Britain. Serving stuff like that looked is them taking the proverbial. Let's see a great American burger soon!

And now I understand why American visitors rave over the fish & chips they get in the UK. That chip shop wouldn't last a week over here. Cheers!
Lee, you're knocking the ball out of the park with your New York videos.
Great content, entertaining and brilliant useful content.
You've moved tonthe Premiership!

(meat) pies are British. The only pies I've ever had in the US were sweet, not savoury, pies. Apple pie, cherry pie, etc.
Lee,that is the scabbiest looking piece of fish ever! It looks like a battered scorpion!! If that's the best they can give you then that is shocking. Knowing you were filming it... just wow. Lost for words. Gordon Ramsay forgives you 🤗
🤣🤣 The fish looked like a battered Scorpion
Those potato things are called scallops (not to be confused with the shellfish version). When done properly, they are delicious.
The ones you were given, were not done properly.
Train station in the UK remind me of "An American Werewolf In London" ! Especially late at night. lol

Oh wow just looked dreadful! Sooo expensive!
Hi Lee. Thanks for another brill update. That looked truly hideous. When I first saw that fish, I thought it was a battered scorpion lol. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from Scotland.
When the fish curls up it's "rigor mortis", just leave! 😮
hahaha what the hell was that you got served, i was howling, i thought it was a scorpion at first. Looked awful the whole thing
Hi Lee, thank you again for your videos. Not too sure if you remember when I commented on one of your videos saying I had a food tube etc and was waiting for surgery. All that walking to end up being served... whatever that was!... love the honesty in the review as always Lee... keep searching there must be some good Fish and chips to be found!...if for no other reason "Do it for Yorkshire!"...👍
Nobody screws up simple recipes like the Yanks do. Surprised they didn't squirt Nutella or liquid cheese on top of it.
I'm afraid British fare does not travel very well to the US. Try watching the Yank version(s) of Fawlty Towers and The Inbetweeners...tragic.
Lee, that looked horrendous! I'd be fuming!
When I saw the 'chips' the first thing I thought of was scallops like you said, haven't seen those in years (school dinners I think?)
When I saw the batter I thought it must have been hungry as its eaten most of the fish!🤣
fume there and if the hood rats outside dont shoot you, the manager will.
COME HOME PPLLEEAASSEE!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 You sure that place ain't called "The Shi*tery"? I could have done better by serving you a bag of MCoys and some Scampi Fries 🤣🤣🤣
"What was they thinking"??
It was "What were they thinking " when I went to school.
Exactly what I was going to say. I thought this man was educated
@@catherineturner2839 You can take the boy out of Mansfield, but you can't take Mansfield out of the boy.
Yes yes I know. You can only have 100 characters. Couldn't use were. 😜
@@TheMacMaster You only used about 80 characters in that title. What are you talking about? Go to the bottom of the English class.🤣🤣
Maybe you are as bad at match as I am at grammar then as I used exactly 100 characters mi duck. Go to the bottom of the maths class. :0) x

Dollar fries! $22, pardon my French, fucking dollar WTF! 0 minus new rating. You are a generous man for leaving a $5 tip.

To be honest I don’t think much of the food in the USA , the tea is rubbish too, In always bring my own tea bags.
I only visited the states once, in LA everything I ordered was vile. The food is overated and expensive.
25 dollars for that rubbish. I wouldn’t have paid 3 quid for it
If it was that bad, why did u leave a tip?
They looked Gross!!! You should of left them on the table for all to see lol. Jen and Paul UK. x
Why the $5 tip? What was it for? It’s taken for granted so leads to worker exploitation.

not in the bin, you should have taken it back with a complaint and refund.
Fish looks like a battered scorpion
10/10 for the the worst looking and most expensive fish and fried potatoes
$25......for that....🤔😢😭

I asked chatgpt to comment lengthy on the cold terrible fish and chips 😅
I always thought that the food was a lot better in the states, bigger portions and cheaper, it seems I was wrong
At least you helped people avoid it.
Your face when you picked that ‘Chip up..
Priceless 😂
That was a disgrace. 0/10.
Just get ordinary peas, chew them into a pulp & return them to your plate. Hey Presto! Instant Mushy Peas.
The train part you mentioned reminded of Die Hard 3..when Samuel L Jackson says to the security guy I've got to answer that phone.. plus crocodile Dundee 2 with the Chinese guy that say's that was Clint Eastwood lol

At Kermit Weeks museum of flight when I visited there - the cafe did mushy peas!!

That fish resembled a giant Scorpion surrounded by potato scallops. You were brave going in there Lee.
Place should be shut down. What an insult.

haha scorpion and potato slices ..... now that was truly crap
That looks absolutely vile!
‘Wild’…I bet it was absolutely livid. 😉
"Get off my train!" I love that film. Also the subway reminds me of Croc Dundee. "Crint Eastwood. very tall"
You're very lucky to be able to afford all these trips all over the world. At least I know if I ever make it to America to avoid their fish & chips.
We called them "Chats" in Yorkshire when i was young.
Tbh you shouldn’t really expect to go abroad and get English food on a par with the English food in England should you?
English food in England? Why do you ignore the rest of the UK - Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all also have "real" fish and chip shops. And some of us Scots would claim that fish and chips in Scottish "chippies" is even better than that in England.
was going to go on about you click baiting, but after watching, that actually does look like the worst fish and chips I've ever seen haha. Good vid.

Before you leave NYC go to Rosie O’Grady’s bar on 52nd street. Have some Sam Adams bitter and their honey glazed chicken for lunch!
Hi mate. Ever thinking of popping to Surrey lots of fish and chips around I know its a bit out the way. Keep up the good work :)
Bloody hell, that “fish” really had curled up and died!!!

So you pay a 25% of the total cost on a TIP.. is this optional or mandatory …love the painting of the wall .. awesome ability

Great Vlog Lee, l am glad to say this but the best fish and chips come from over the pond in the UK especially Yorkshire 😅. The shopping precinct looked outstanding, the fish and flat chips didn't look outstanding they looked like 😮😮😮.Our marks 0/10🤢🤢🤢
Great vlog Lee many thanks still on the catch-up Richard and Tanya from Southampton ❤
For once you didn’t exaggerate how bad the food was it looked truly awful 😂
WOW!, looks like they have served you one of Ghandis flip flops 🤣🤣
Another great vlog from you you always make me smile 😊 I reserve judgment full well knowing it was basically crap lol
Hi, been to America lots of , I know about tipping , I would have had the meal then May have tipped, ps where did get the bag from cheers , keep the good work up
I agree there Lees vlogs are brilliant I look forward to them and you can't beat English fish and chips back home
They looked rather insipid. The fish was very thin (I reckon if you held it to the light you would see the light through it). The 'chips' were crinkle cut slices. Not appetising to look at. I rate them -1/10 especially at that price. We are spoilt here in Leeds.
That billboard with the guy who hasn’t had fish and chips 😂😂
That fish looked minging
I would say tartar to that. That looked utterly weird. What a load of scallops.
I have walked past this place a few times, now I know to keep walking. A 1 based on looks alone.
Oohhh panicked then thought you were taking us into the little boys room at the Oculus 😂 thought we were going to see little Lee lol😂
Served on old newspaper, blimey that takes me back.
Hi Lee, when are you going to show us all the famous Central Park
Just lol. What's that frazzled up flattened horror? Wish you had taken them back and complained. Should have asked them do you get fish with that batter?

Eat what the locals eat, even they can do home cooking. Clam Chowder, Philly Cheese Steak, Biscuits & Gravy, Bagel & Lox or Pastrami on Rye with hot mustard. It's good stuff if you choose right.
The prices in America have gone crazy, 27 dollars (£22), madness
I have walked into these places in the past normally after a few pints and just looking at the decor drunk as a lord I would turn round and look elsewhere..............🤠
Coming from grimsby that is an abomination
I’ve been watching your channel since Benidorm (I follow B Enthusiast as I live in Spain). Only decent food I ate in the WHOLE of USA was in “China Town” New York, find a restaurant with a steaming dim sum trolley. Love your channel so much😊
Thank you.
They looked vile. Bottom line-if you want proper british grub, get it in Britain. Serving stuff like that looked is them taking the proverbial. Let's see a great American burger soon!
25% tip for that crap
Quite simply the MOST ACCURATE TITLE EVER!
