If this is a1st time performance then I will say what a terrific debut. They are all top shelf world class players. Just think how they will sound after a few more shows and knowing the material better. Good lord they will be even more ferocious. Lets hope they can stick around together and make even more magic in the future
Joshua it sounds like you’re judging when you say you’re not judging. I meant making a critique of my critique is a form of judgment which is fine!!! no problem with that at all. In order to live we all make judgments every day you made a judgment and a critique when you decided on listening to that music and liking it I would be more than glad to discuss all the details of why I personally didn’t think it was a well executed coherent musical performance but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t to somebody else I hope you continue to enjoy that ensemble. best of luck
Well your comment that’s not true I like all type of contemporary jazz one would be early Billy Cobham early Tony Williams weather report many other things it’s just in his case that Vann has a bunch of young guys you are very talented but overplay and trying to show off and they’re playing the times
Not real inspiring. Good players but sounds like just a lot of scales being run in a technical manner. Drummer is too loud and too busy-much to busy. can't hear Christian. Pianist sounds chaotic in is design of his solos. Recording live was not balanced well but that happens in a club. Experience in my opinion will get this team to mellow out and not to try to play everything they know. Play ensemble music. They are all good musicians I am sure.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this aint your grandaddy's jazz and keep in mind that this was the first public performance for this group. I can assure you that this was an inspired performance. Please go out and support live music!!

I feel like Stephen loves zawinul but hates any other form of contemporary jazz, it’s not bebop. I sound a little pretentious lol but the groove is tight
