With everyone of these farm clean ups you do it always makes me wonder what the story was on every piece. When it was bought. How much it cost. How it was used and by whom. What was used to pull it. What crops were being grown. Our home has high vaulted ceilings with what they call pot shelves. My wife knew i was a hot rodder and a scrapper when she married me 43 years ago. The pot shelves are lined with all kinds of vintage items and some industrial I've scrounged over the years. My shop and our yard is all done industrial looking. Old signage and old artifacts like what you are saving. I have 100 year old corrugated metal in 19 foot sheets under our 40 foot patio cover that came off a cotton gin in a town south of where we live called Casa Grande. The Minneapolis Moline Combine in the beginning looks complete other than bad tires, would love to get ahold of one,I know they had their time, shows how much farming has changed,
My father worked for Standard Oil starting in 1950. I well remember the crown valve stem caps. When I pulled a 1946 Cadillac from a garage in the late 1980's, been parked there for 30 years, it had those caps.

That old Wisconsin motor on the bailer is worth some bucks$$. I would put that on E-bay. They used them on so many types of equipment. We just an exhaust manifold. $200. Ours was rusted and cracked beyond repair.
Silas, that gizmo for what ever it is, or other stuff just like it would make for those fellows that tow trees out with their bigger garden tractor, a atv or four wheeler a log arch for totting trees out of the woods. They could put more than one small tree in it an bind it down an then pull it out of the woods. Might need a little boat winch or better to make it easy but sure enough would keep the ends from dragging in the dirt so they pull easy. I forgot the important part.. 05:16 is where its at. I liked those large spoke wheels that fit nothing anymore but as yard art fit just fine as old time stuff. If I lived near there I would beg for a job to repurpose stuff an split what sold so no one paying a wage, just paying attention.
When my uncle sold his farm for millions to developers he had a farm equipment cleanout but nothing as big and involved as this one. His combine, tractors and all the tow behind equipment such as the plowing disks, fertilizer spreaders and other stuff he sold at auction, especially the old tractor he had for years that a collector bought because of it being practically antique. But I do remember that big pile of scrap equipment that he let some guy haul off for free. I don't think he had anthing as interesting as your cleanup but it really looked different with the barns and storage buildings empty and the land clear of all that equipment. Boy farming technology has sure advanced. Back during the 1970's and 1980's when my relatives used to farm they always used square bales, and piled them into the barn loft. Now most use the round bales sealed in wraps on the ground to protect them from the elements. I would think the square bales in the barn loft would preserve better, but i have no idea. Now people are abandoning silos for feed storage in favor of silage bags which also sit on the ground outside which is understandable considering silos age.
I think I heard someone explain that round bales are wrapped in plastic so they will decompose and ferment, leading to higher calorie food for the cattle. The plastic is therefore employed to contain the moisture in the grass, not to keep moisture out. I may be wrong, but that is what was explained to me when I asked farmers around here why.

In a case like this, do the landowners pay you to clean up the junk or do you do the work for the value of the scrap metal? Do they pay you and you get the metal for scrap anyway? A lot of work goes into a cleanup such as this.

My Dad would not have saved any of that. To him, everything had a purpose, nothing was just to look at. My sister would buy knickknacks for him for Christmas. He would ask what's it used for? Art was not to look at, it was to cover a hole in the wall.
A couple years back I ran across a couple of channels here on TH-cam where a bunch of guys would get together and using their antique farm equipment would actually harvest various grain crops, it was an amazing thing to watch.

Dont assume that the old combines are all scrap the ferguson side mounted combine for the grey ferguson t20 is non existent so one of the big collector's had a new one built so you can imagine how much that cost. It would be worth looking it up so you know what it is if you see one. Jobs like this are just the place to come across one!!!!

I think just my opinion you and you dad should look into a enclosed trailer for these jobs so you can put all you hand tools chain saw hammers etc in to it then you just need to pull it in the job site and your done no need to load up trucks because it already in the trailer and you can put all back at the end of the day lock it up and are good to go
I actually didn’t bring any tools for this job other than my sawzall. For other jobs, the reason I don’t bring a trailer full of stuff is because I have to bring my flatbed trailer to haul stuff home instead.
Silas.. your torch operator doesn't have his torch adjusted properly...the adjustments are off the hottest part of the flame is blue..it should look similar to an arrowhead with a pointed tip not all frayed looking...I'm sure you can find a TH-cam video to show you what I mean...cleaner cut less time less wasted gas and oxygen...and there are tips that are angled for cutting...
Why are there so many abandoned farms or farms with abandoned equipment or vehicles in the trees? I don't think that we have any places like that in England
It also burns much faster, is much more expensive, and there is only 1 place within 50 miles that sells it. Propane can be found everywhere for cheap and it is only slightly slower.

Please, let me bother you for a moment with a couple of question from and old [82yrs] man who watches all of your presentations. # 1 is Sialis your first or last name ? #2 I noticed on the side of your Dads car carrier, Sialis Enterprizes Inc. are you and your father partners ? After so many programs you seem to own at least to car crushers, possible three fork lift front end loaders , two or more scall houses, plus several very, very large scrap yards . Not to mention your personal storage yard. Also a bobcat of some make, can't remember what it is,sorry. #3 Why do you fool around loading two stinking cars on a small trailer and haul them to the shredder, all day long day in and day out. Why not a 1 1/2 ton truck that could carry one car, then a trailer that could carry at least 4 cars each trip. Sure would save on fuel, wasted time back and forth to the bone yard. Standard oil gas stations had those valve stem caps when I was young. They had white and red caps. That was in the early 50's.
