im sorry but as someone who lives in LA and came from Austin/San Antonio, Austin is pennies. The only downside to texas is the cost of vehicle insurance. It's nearly double. You're just reading an article from someone versus experiencing it yourself as a realtor. Which I can't blame because its not your job to fly around and live places for your clients. But as someone who IS in LA... I could buy a luxury condo in Austin for the price of LA.
That guy in the article is exaggerating and it sounds like satire lmao.
For example, in the slums of LA... Drugs, fights, homeless.... a 1br apartment is $2400/mo plus $300 for parking, plus about $600 in utilities in that 650sqft. apartment. No matter where you rent in LA you will pay $300-$500/mo per car. Austin is absolutely cheaper. This article youre reading sounds like some guy who has no concept of waste and just went willy nilly and was like oh shucks its not cheaper. darnit.

Hey, thanks for much for watching!
It’s definitely not cheap anymore to Texans, but still cheaper to people from the east and west coast. Also, downtown Austin has gone up a ton. When did you move to LA? Do you like it?
We did an RV trip in 2020 and went up to LA, and the bay area and even then it had already changed so much. I can’t believe parking is so expensive there, I remember years ago when I worked in property management and we started charging for parking in downtown Austin and I just couldn’t believe it. Back then it was about $100 per car for parking, so I can’t even imagine 300 to 500 per month. Anyway, thanks again for your input and for watching!

I think he bit off more than he could chew. If he purchased a home with the same square footage as his previous home without a pool, he probably would have saved money over time. You also have to put in the effort to learn the culture here and how to spend money here in regards to entertainment and eating out. Austin can be very expensive in that regard if you don't know what you're doing. Given what he's saying, Houston might have been a better fit.
