Brother Joseph was so homesick stuck in the middle of nowhere - Cullman, AL- that he created an escape recreating miniature famous places- using all kinds of trinkets like marbles, shells & donated items to press into concrete. 1st saw this place on a grade school field trip & it left such a lasting impression & a lifelong love of mosaics. Thanks for stopping by there.👑
I had never heard of this place before today. Really fascinating. Little tip to Adam: the pronunciation of Ave Maria would be "Ah-Vay Maria." Ave is Latin for "Hail."
@@naysmith5272 yes, sometimes he would only have 1 post card of the front of a building to go by. Or a description. And he had to guess what the back & sides of the building looked like. I wish somebody would do a movie about this guy's story.
I know, road trips are wearing... but gosh darn it all, Adam, it is when you TRULY excel. I could listen to you talking about places all day. I am still holding out hope that one day you will get to West Bend, Iowa and see the magnificent Grotto of the Redemption! THANK YOU for taking us out for adventures!
Frank Sutton is also buried in Clarksville. I'm surprised you didn't stop at the old train station there in homage to the Monkees song. Its a cool old train station. Also in Metropolis is where the Bird Man of Alcatraz is buried. Love when you get back out on the road cross country style.
It would have been funny if the grotto version of Mission San Juan Capistrano also had a miniature guy doing some leaf blowing around the property to match your adventure from that location.
I LOVE roadside oddities like you do. Not everyone appreciates them. I can't wait to watch, and glad you're coming back to Illinois! Btw your beard trim looks very nice and youthful. You should keep it that way. 🙂
Enjoyed learning about Frank Sutton! I loved that statue, it was a perfect example of Sgt. Carter! I loved how he could be so mean to Gomer, then turn around and be a soft old teddy bear. Wow, I just love these unexpected treasures you show us!
Thanks Adam! I appreciate all that you do and the way that you do it. I am 63 and I have seen things on your channel that I would never be able to make it in person. Thanks!

"Ave Maria" (pronounced "Ah-vay") is Latin, translates to English as "Hail Mary". The grotto itself is a reproduction of the one in Lourdes, France, where Bernadette Soubirous (St. Bernadette of Lourdes) experienced 18 separate apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1858. It was dramatized in the 1943 film, "Song of Bernadette", with Vincent Price cast in a supporting role.
I’m glad you mentioned “Ah-Vay Maria” the pronunciation Adam will use from now on. It’s great 👍 that all of us continue to learn everyday, or every week if we keep pursuing our interests, and others, to keep us on our toes! :-)
