Well, the guys at Compuserve way back when intentionally pronounced it to sound like the peanut butter Jiff, and since they invented the word they get to say how it's supposed to be pronounced. Of course, people are free to pronounce it any way they please, but if they know the word's history and still use a hard "g" then they are knowingly mispronouncing it.
