Because of this video I bought my quickjack, changed my three coolant hoses, oil cooler/filter gasket, changed the serpentine belt, changed the oil and coolant. Never wrenched on a car but somehow this man convinced me to do it. And now it’s done.
2009 e93 335i owner here. ARM charge pipe, tial BOV, ARM catless downpipes, wagner 5in stepped intercooler, MHD stage 2+. Love the car, keep those wheels, they're my favorite on our cars. Hindsight is 20/20 but you should've gone ahead with the NGK step 1 colder plugs if you're planning to tune past stage 1.
Amazing to see you. Getting hands on with the cars bro come a long way and that's what makes the channel so appealing to enthusiasts. You started with reviews but can see the way you branched out.
Good start, a couple of other maintenance bits I’d do is get the valves walnut blasted then put an oil catch can on it. Upgrade the charge pipe, get rid of the panel air filter for dual cones, then intercooler, de cat down pipes then finally a tune
Excellent video, I just stumbled across your channel, & have had my N54 just a year. Done belt, tensioner, top hose, coolant flange (Mickey mouse) upgrade from plastic to aluminium. Pcv valve upgrade to aluminium, spark plugs, oil, filter, gearbox oil. Power steering fluid change as I have a buzzing sound from power steering pump (checked with stethoscope) that makes a wurring sound as you press the gas. Not very louder, can just hear at high revs in 1st & 2nd. Steering is fine, with no noises, so can only be pump bearing, but car only on 26k miles.
The fact that there was some strange bolt on the corner of the Valve cover is totally a sign that this was not done right or was just removed and replaced incorrectly. This would cause the troubles of the oil in the spark plugs for sure. Great job!
Great engines, when they were new or have been maintained correctly. Not worse than many other BMW engine designs. Great to see that someone gives one with higher mileage a go!
No wonder dealer servicing is so expensive. It takes longer to get at 'service items' than to change them... doh! Great Video, really well put together - well done.
Do the gearbox oil mate makes a huge huge huge difference you want bmw mtf-lt2 or 75w80 Gl4 do the diff too that’s 75w90 make sure you get correct one depending if you have an lsd or not
Yep agree with this. And don't do what I did and try be flash with fancy oils. Go with LT2 (or whatever your gearbox label has written on it). I ran fancy oil for about 20 miles before taking it back out 😂
Really look forward to watching your video's, and much congratulate you on your growing presentation, mechanical and editing skills - please keep them coming!!
@@TRHamza 100 percent next thing should be a unit.. I'm a big fan of matt Armstrong.. ur exactly the same started.off on driveways Gardens etc then on up 2 units etc big up ur self
almost a good thing the junction hose (top radiator) went, mine literally split in half where it connects to the oil filter housing, yours would have gone eventually too. There's also a mickey mouse flange coming out of the cylinder head which you can replace with a metal one, definitely do that as well
Noticed a decent amount of oil down the front of the engine, make sure to get both the Oil Filter Housing Gasket and Oil Cooler Housing Gasket done soon!
Odd request but any chance the budget allows for an audio upgrade for this car? BMWs that don’t come with hk have some very poor audio and might be something of interest to quite a few people. Just a thought. Would be nice to see though. Thanks for the vids and keep up the good work.
I think the 335i has so much potential. The block itself is very strong and with a single turbo conversion can easily take 700hp+ just need to rip out and replace everything around the engine which causes these cars so many issues
You bought a BMW with the infamous N54! Be ready to fork out some serious cash! I had a 135i with that engine and boy it was fast, but damn my whole savings went into it to keep it running🤣
i think the smoke is probably coming from oil dripping onto the heat shield on the steering rack. got an n52 e92 and it smoked from exactly the same place.
Yo Hamza, wheres all your old videos gone? I haven't watched your channel in a while. Have I missed something? Last time I saw a video was when you had your accident.
I had problems with my belt fraying badly on my N54. Replaced twice by garage. I decided to do it myself the third time and discovered that the plastic power steering pulley was so damaged that at one point less than half of the pulley surface was there. (A common problem.) I replaced it with an aluminium one, which was about $50. I’d recommend anyone to do this when changing the belt, or even earlier.
Don't forget the oil cooler housing gasket. Common fault and that's what slips the Serpentine belt. You showed plenty of oil on the front of the block so that's likely failed also
I got a little 1 series for going to work in, has the steering wheel light on, been told its because of the aftermarket stereo, has a single din in there that came with the car. Think its because its not hooked to controls. Not sure if that right but hasn't given me any grief. Is the stereo in this oem?
If you think you've lost it with the N54, try the N43. And after everything you've spent, it still doesn't go anywhere with 99sec to 100 and looks the same.
Fingers crossed you haven't got a leaking rear main seal. Seeing as it's super wet round there. It's a common problem but usually on high mileage engines.
Hi mate good video really enjoyed watching. Just wondered what you do for work ? You seem very knowledgeable within the car scene and I'm guessing TH-cam ain't the only thing you do 👍🏻
Bro youre gonna want to change out them bosch plugs for some B58 ones, once you push stage 2 youll be misfiring for sure. Put in a reg for M140 at ECP and get some NGK B58 Plugs
the noise from the front, oil filter housing is it? possible gasket leak? not followed you for a couple of years, see your getting your hands dirty nowadays :P looking forward to seeing more on this!
Ahhh.. Good ol N54 maintenance

Its mad how much Hamzas progressed in terms of getting his hands dirty working on the cars

Nearly 130k subscribers and still making regular relevant content. Fantastic !
I don't have a BMW... But I felt the need to watch this whole vid.

Hats of to you for doing the job properly with decent parts from the outset!

Make sure you use the NGK spark plugs and not the Bosch. Side by side they are made to quite different specs. Only the NGK is correct.
Thanks for doing these types of videos, always been wary of these but it’s nice to see that I could actually fix these general problems my self!

Hi, great vid!
What car stands are you using?
Could you post a link to them please

Would check the top of the backboxes for weld marks it may have had PE mod done. If it's not I would recommend it.
The SE spec 335d/i cars had grey lower grilles to differentiate them, they were like that from new. No idea why they did this...
