    Is that a 3/4 ton van or a 1 ton ?

    Apparently "Going up the auto road" doesn't mean going to the summit so usually no view most of the time. Cold and wind are available at the bottom you will find and with none of the risk.

    I’ve seen a lot of videos on this observatory but none tell you what state it’s in.

    does the snowcoach go all the way up to the summit?

      No. It goes to treeline - about 4200 feet high (the summit is 6288). It's as high as they can safely navigate on a consistent basis. But the views there are still incredible!

    The chances that I put the gps tracker inside that snow coach is really good. Great people who run this operation. I highly recommend

    Is this how the scientific crew is ferried up & down the mountain?

    • @OutsideWhiteMountains
      @OutsideWhiteMountains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, this is a guided sight seeing tour that only goes to treeline. The Mount Washington Observatory crew is shuttled to the summit in a more robust "snow cat" similar to what is used to groom ski area slopes.

    Unless you have a physical disability preventing you from hiking, why would you take this?

    • @MrLoudog7

      Unless you want a physical disability, you better take it. Check temps up there .

      This isn't a substitute for a hike, if that's what you mean. But winter hiking takes specialized gear, experience and planning. The SnowCoach is an opportunity for anybody to experience this environment in a short trip with the safety of a vehicle and professional guide

      Anyone short of a well experienced alpine hiker shouldn't attempt Mt. Washington in the middle of winter. This mountain is no joke.
