8 dead in a road accident along Ushirika Road in Karen, Nairobi

- 8 people have died after a matatu they were in rolled off Ushirika Road and landed in Mbagathi River in the Gataka area of Karen. Six people died on the spot while 2 died undergoing treatment. 19 people were injured in the accident.
14 people are receiving treatment at Karen Hospital with 3 of them in critical state. 3 people are being treated at Ngong Hospital with two more undergoing treatment at St Mary's Hospital.
Naboka Sacco has the oldest most unroad worthy buses...true story... Their licenses should be revoked

Most of Drivers we have are very careless drivers!!! secondly in every route Police are taking 50/= to allow unroadworthy vehicles on the road!!!! this is two main problem we have in Kenya if government can deal with it number of accident may reduced. Who is supposed to be adviced on overloading. Why should one board a vehicle with capacity passages. We should not blame the government but ourselves.

Agreed but who is supposed to crackdown on such unroadworthy matatus which are in pathetic poorly maintained condition and are not supposed to be operating on our roads? Government also is equally to blame for such ignorance.

The other day I was boarding a Naboka at the bus station, there only one seat left at the back left corner. Once I sat down, I swear the seat was swinging back and forth. So I was just wondering, how is such a vehicle even allowed on the roads??

It's unfortunate that they had just bribed a police officer just before the accident. And yes, the number of deaths was more than the ones announced. Overlapping, over speeding, overcapacity and rogue speeding culminated with bribing is not uncommon with vehicles playing Gataka and Rongai route.

This is so unfortunate very old naboka vehicles on that road. other Saccos should also be allowed on that route monopoly has made naboka be so relaxed in terms of the services!!

Every time i use this matatus i do pray when approaching this mountain, either up hill or down. This guys do a crazy overload ... CRAZY!
The police on the road take their fifty bobs and let them drive off. Hope this is a lesson to all the un-road-worthy matatus using this road and the passengers who keep getting on board despite the overload.
