Great video. Regarding break I’d add that breaking in round 1 with sponsors 5 is a pretty strong action. 5 money and 1 X is worth quite a bit in early game. As a rule of thumb, you try not be the person to trigger the last break of the game. It gives the other player one extra turn with full money and workers.

Yeah I think that final break timing is one of the most awkward parts of the game unfortunately.good call out!

Nick, this is the content I am here for! :) Thanks for being cool and taking a minute when I said hi in the hall at the WBC. This channel and the Friendly Ties podcast have been welcome additions to my gaming content feeds.

You saying hi was one of the highlights of my week! You may have even inspired me to push some extra Ark Nova content ;)

A video showing all the different ways you can get an association worker would be helpful .. I just played against someone who was getting them super fast and in ways I didn’t know such as with the archeologist sponsor card

Nice idea! Thank you! Quick side note, I recommend removing archaeologist if you are playing map A or 0.

Lots of good advice, I'll add one thing. Triggering the last break is a big tempo disadvantage, because the opponent gets the first action with full resources. Either let them trigger the break, or do so when their actions are poorly positioned (Animals and Association are low).

Good call on the last break - it makes a huge difference in many games. Ideally, if you're setting a fresh tempo, then by triggering the break they are already out of position OR you're content to sit around and do other actions. The games where you are just in X-offs are very weird.

If I need a particular partner zoo or university, I would prefer my opponents break so I get the best look at the new board.

Love the video. The break is one of the most interesting tension points of the game! I think that the later the game goes, the worse it is being the "Breaker"

Fully agreed! Early on the X reward is even more significant and everyone is on more similar footing.

@@phoenicksgaming Taking association workers into account when considering breaks was something I was overlooking though, i was only really looking at money. I've been doing much better in games since thinking about that so thanks for that advice!

@@phoenicksgaming After playing a bit more I actually really dont think breaking is that bad and have been agressively doing so at times!

One thing not mentioned is your turn order position in relation to an identified breaker. I don't think people pay close enough attention to that aspect. Especially when you are racing for certain association benefits or specific cards in the card row. Not pushing a break leaving you out of position and forcing someone else to push can make a huge difference.

Extremely good point! Where you are after the break matters quite a bit.

people who don't come up with these 3 areas of interaction are just not playing the game competitively enough lol. i just asked my 9 year old what areas of ark nova are interactive and should be paid attention to, she said "the break, card draw, and conservation" lol
