This whole movie is people running away from things you can't possibly outrun.
Hahahahaha
Seriously. That volcanic eruption would be like an atomic blast. If you are close enough to see the explosion, you are seconds away from being vaporised. The only RV that could outrun that is Lone Star and Barfs.
Coz its a movie...
Guys, it's a movie. Chiiiilllll
@@lesigh1749 if Yellowstone goes up and you see it, you wouldn't even have time to blink honestly
You know what the scary part is
The eruption is said to be 1000x worse than what’s shown in this scene
Oh no
I heard that when a supervulcano erups, a gigantic lavageyser shoots up into the sky.
@@melissathieme9555 you have to watch about lake TOBA(another super volcanoe), or Krakatoa's eruption in 1883
OH NOOOO
Well we had a good life 😁
As a survivor of 2012 I can confirm this actually happened.
Oh man I remember the doomsday believers back then! All those different theories of what might happen, either a Rupture, or destruction like this, or continuing into another realm... There was a newspaper article about a student who gave away everything she had to await this...
The following day had to be so hard for them...
Ahhh So your the camera man who survived?😱
Can confirm. Freshman in High School when all of this went down.
2012 was crazy man. I still remember this like it was yesterday.
im still surprised how l survived all of it l had to watch a quick Tutorial on how to fly with a plane and ready to go
I love how Woody's character is just enjoying the eruption, as he knows it's pointless to outrun the destruction.
no he just wanted to witness it. If these main characters can survive then he could maybe probably survive, which is enough hope for anyone to run away.
Yeah I don't care. wanting to see it or not and wanting to outrun it or not, there is no way he would have not been blown to pieces in the initial blast being that close to the volcano. and there's no way a van or even a plane that's off as it erupts would be able to get away form the violent clouds of pyroclastic flows.
Lol your points stupid as the people who did run from it escaped fine 😂
Much agreed, person with the Monika PFP.
Now, this is a decent eruption.

Ah yes, the best con.
Woody Harrelson is my favourite character in this movie. He’s not going to try to outrun it. He knows it won’t work. He stands there looking at the beauty of it, accepting his fate and wishing everybody all the best.

This is one of the rare times where Hollywood actually didn't overdo it. They underdid that explosion which is stupidly scary
I'm pretty sure that the sheer sound would have destroyed their heads in a split second.
Endless Lore Absolutely. The shockwave would shatter eardrums even miles away.
The Punisher More like thousands, tens of thousands, could be hundreds of thousands even. Krakatoa was only the _second_ most powerful volcanic eruption in recorded history, and it could be heard over 3,000 miles away. *3,000 miles away.* Yellowstone’s eruption would be a thousand times bigger and more powerful. It would affect the entire world, the ash cloud so big it would block out sunlight for years on end. Under did it can’t even begin to express how dumbed down it is. Half of America would be gone.
McK Plot armor
I actually think they overdid it.
A supervolcano like Yellowstone doesn’t explode like a gigantic nuke going off.
You should give the BBC/Discovery Channel TV movie Supervolcano from 2005 a watch, it does a much better job of realistically depicting a Yellowstone eruption.
It would more likely be a whole bunch of VEI 5 (Mount St Helens sized) eruptions across the width and breadth of the caldera, unzipping it if you will, and after a long period of eruption, they’l coalesce into one large vent, before that will then collapse to form a new caldera.
What I’m getting at is that it’s a gradual process, a violent one to be sure, but moe gradual than the overly Hollywood-ised thing of it being one massive blast.
Ground deformation does occur, but it doesn’t bubble up in like a 50 storey balloon, that’s absolutely ridiculous.

Watching 2012 which was made in 2009 while in 2018.
Somehow using dates in movietitles is heavily awkward.
Yeah
It was released in 2009, they started making it years before probably
Yep, about a month before Avatar came out.
TNovix I wonder how scared people were thinking it might actually happen in 3 years lol

Ah yes dumb logic.
If that van is 4x4, it's good.
But if it is just normal 2x2 car, isn't that explosion will affect the van? Like.. Come on. That van lost some rear parts. And in 2x2 car, rear side and tires are important because it moves the whole car body. The front side is just for turning left n right and also for aerodynamic thingy.
That van should not be able to move anymore actually. Maybe..

Truest statement in the entire movie. From earthquakes to volcanoes to tsunamis, destruction is always just one step behind this family.
😂
If it doesn't follow them, 2012 didn't happen
The most amazing thing about this is that explosion is way smaller and slower than the real thing would be.
The real thing had the power to destroy North America completely so, yeah. Also, the first shockwave alone can reduce Charlie to a charred skeleton.
@@varric I know right. Mad to think that that level of destruction in the movie is actually downplayed!!

When I was a kid I had no idea that 2012 was a real event that was supposed to happen I just thought it was a dumb movie until I researched it and I thought for like 2 years that we were all gonna die. I don’t think this should’ve even been marketed. It gave me and a lot of my friends a lot of existential crisis and I had a couple friends that were so worried about 2012 that when that year rolled around they just flunked all their classes. Fun fact: In 1883 an Indonesian volcano named Krakatoa violently erupted, and it was so powerful that anyone within 10 miles of it was instantly killed by the sound of the eruption alone. That eruption is speculated to be *at minimum* 100-1000 times weaker than an average eruption from Yellowstone, so everyone in the scene (even the people in the plane far away from the initial site) would've realistically died immediately
The pressure wave would turn everyone in the northwest into jelly I'd imagine

Remember they're playing this one on easy mode to survive. That means the explosion is only 20% the full size on hard (120% on expert mode), multiple effects are disabled, ash does not disable engines and fire burns much slower. Also gravity for most active entities has been reduced by 75% to make them fall slower.
