I ADORE Rolando's expression when he hands out the rose, and when he walks up to her, when he hugs her... you really can feel the love! And Anna is just divine in every aspect!
i am a big abstract ,death metal ,black metal and experimental industrial music fan ,BUT listen to this Goddess, spur my mind into a smashing lovely trip in all the senses!!!!i wish that my future wife looks like Ana Netrebko ...and i shall rest in peace...for ever. You are an Angel Netrebko.
Ehm...a message for those that are seeing this video for the first time and by chance they don't know Anna and Rolando. They and their friends are phenomenon changing the contemporary opera history (or better, reporting it on the right way), saving it to the abyss of ignorance, superficiality and pure negligence.
Traviata - Ms. Netrebko displayed ample power, coloratura bravura with a marvelous tone Having recently heard Natalie Dessay sing Sempre Libera at the Met Gala, one was impressed by the legato nature of Netrebko's portray in contrast to Dessay's intentional staccato, fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.
I'm enjoying the music, I'm enjoying the voices, the light drama and its interpretation... it is marvelous. Thanks to any body who allows me to have this pleasure. Some comments could be read, then ignored inmediately and, playing again the video, the interpretation will vanish any bitter drop left.
This performance has become the modern standard on DVD/ blueray. It is a classic. Villazon in a sense was a male version of Maria Callas. Heart on sleeve give it every emotion type of performance, not schmaltz or anything inauthentic just pure art. Hope his voice recovers fully. There is a very good Callas Traviata on You Tube but can't find it anymore. Netrebko in prime form here.
i have never been pro to the modern versions of any opera, i always think that it's touch the heart especialy becouse of it classic style, but in this traviata i have changed my mind.
i'm 15 yrs old an probably have no idea of the history of the opera or anything like that but when i listen to the beauty of this songs i ask myself you you can hate or be so embittered and mean while hearing this.
la mise en scène est grandiose et d'ailleurs a été reprise le décor minimaliste met en valeur les jeux d'acteurs .. ceci dit chacun ces gouts j'ai le DVD et je regarde souvent moi j'adore
Please don't over criticize, if your education is on such a level that you are an accepted critic on music, that's great! But, let's just enjoy the performers efforts. After all, it is they who are on stage, and there must be a reason why they are there, so just sit back and enjoy! If you can put away your ego for a moment, I'm sure you will enjoy! If not, then simply walk away.
I'm just going to say this: Music, to me, is not about precision. This is art, not mathematics. God forbid someone sing a cadenza wrong! It's true, Anna's coloratura is not her strong point, but she has an unique, beautiful timbre that distinguishes her from other sopranos that I love. I don't really care if she sang the coloratura at 1:03 wrong or not (she did sing them wrong). I think her performance as a whole is something fantastic.
fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.
awsome .. after the goddess Callas, comes not Freni, not Tebaldi, not Kanawa - this is for sure the best sopran in last 3 decades! I only don't understand how it comes that the CD-Traviata "experts" always do comment her dress, her moves, the stage? Are they just watching with a mp3 player in the ear? Ridiculous comments, especially "maestro" TheInquisitive4Ever :))!
Modern sets can work I have seen La Traviatra a number of times in Prague -- and brilliant productions with modern sets. Its not the modern sets its the producing and staging of the production that makes it !. Prague production was fantastic
...? God I love Opera snobs. And yes I know all about these GREAT sopranos of the past, I'm currently studying Voice Performance at a Conservatory. If Anna and all the other Sopranos of the future acted and sang every role the same way Joan Sutherland and Mirella Freni did IT WOULD GET BORING. NO ONE WOULD WATCH. I don't see why Opera can't adapt to the changing social culture and become more modern to stay alive while still keeping it's musical integrity.
Recently I was involved only in "public order" tasks with some blok-heads around here, but now I want comment one thing of this phenomenal Sempre Libera. We have to note that Ms. Netrebko sings that like any serous DA CAPO aria, and the second time is different, more dramatic, really like she is trying to convince herself desperately. I find that a GENIAL refinement of the conception of ARIA CON DA CAPO itself.
Anna Netrebko, in August 2009, did a SOLD OUT STANDING OVATION LIEDER RECITAL AT SALZBUR FESTIVAL (the most prestigious Festival IN THE WORL), accompanied at the piano by DANIEL BARENBOIM. How many singers today can "afford" an accompanist like Daniel Barenboim? One of most famous pianist and conductors of the last 50 years?
Thanks, E.E Cummings is one of my preferred poets: may my heart always be open to little birds who are the secrets of living whatever they sing is better than to know and if men should not hear them they are old. You xgianpatrick don't sing, don't hear, and above all DON'T KNOW nothing. 8-)
Have you actually seen the whole performance - or just this short clip? Personally I was STUNNED by her acting skills (and his as well). I had never heard of her (or him) earlier - so can't really blame the fame factor here.
I think that is an IKEA couch.... lol And I freaking LOVE ANNA and ROLANDO together - I WANT THEM TO GET MARRIED AND HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF BABIES TOGETHER!!!!
RELAX! There are other ways to express discontent. What I meant, is that she has a strong Russian accent, that I PERSONALLY do not like in Italian SPOKEN Opera(even if the story takes place in France, the libretto is in Italian). And yes, I have a good idea of what I'm talking about: 1. because I'm expressing my own taste in music. 2. I'm a classical musician myself, and I know how to appreciate this art called Opera.
I can't believe you guys are complaining about a couch. Look, the director obviously took a risk with this interpritation and obviously some people though it sucked. The point is people don't really wanna see the same thing over and over again, and I give the director kudos for trying something new
I'm just really really wondering...once we assume that Anna Netrebko Lucia was chosen as GREAT PERFORMANCES AT THE MET, and that Elisabetta said "Lately MET lacks in quality". MET LACKS IN QUALITY? Dessay sang Lucia at the MET too. Elisabetta is telling us Dessay lacks in quality?!?! OMG :-O
They establish themself as a new standard in front of the most prestigious pits. So is perfectly natural that a little club of little jelous losers protest aganst that threat to their lounging. Playtime is over!;-)
If Violetta would have been Russian- this would have been perfect. Unfortunately for her, she's Italian. I'm not saying she's bad, on the contrary, but you can feel the accent really strongly!
Oh and I really don't see how the dress she's wearing is in any way shape or form "tasteless and classless." She may as well be dressed in nun's habit if you compare the dress to what's in style. Oh and by the way, the character "Violetta" is supposed to be hot. Really really really hot. The women in the past who've done this role... not so hot. Anna however, just happens to be incredibly beautiful AND possesses an amazing voice. Anna's a hot woman playing the part of a hot woman.
People are not bashing her. How come people don't leave bad comments for Anna Moffo? Anna Moffo has a much prettier face and her voice and singing are by far better. I only wish that everything of her were living up to the fame people have created for her. Unfortunately this is not the case. Renee Fleming actually has a better overall package than Netrebko except for her age.
I ADORE Rolando's expression when he hands out the rose, and when he walks up to her, when he hugs her... you really can feel the love!
And Anna is just divine in every aspect!

I have no words! This week I'll buy dvd "La Traviata" with them! They are great! Wonderful duet!
What a fairy voice of the Violetta. Even the empty walls can not destroy a charm of beauty.
Magnifico adoro toda la obra y su escenografía.

A mi me parece una versión fantástica, y la puesta en escena me parece genial, moderna y adaptada a los tiempos actuales. Me gusta mucho.
Brava!

MY absolute favorite opera and this is one of the best arias.
Oh My Goodness.........what an amazing voice she has; I was transported listening to this. :-)
i have never been pro to the modern versions of any opera, i always think that it's touch the heart especialy becouse of it classic style, but in this traviata i have changed my mind.
I love this version! So much drama and she looks like such a diva!
i'm 15 yrs old an probably have no idea of the history of the opera or anything like that but when i listen to the beauty of this songs i ask myself you you can hate or be so embittered and mean while hearing this.

She sings as beautiful as she looks, and she is stunning!

Que hermosa voz tiene esa mujer. La cantidad de años que habrá estado practicando para poder cantar así.

@tumtillia Very much underestimated voice. She is a great singer.

But I prefer the Alban Berg definition in his letters:"kleinen Septakkord" that there is NOT on wikipedia. So I can't search it on internet :-(.
