    A quick behind the scenes on how I got the video from last week to "handwrite" notes for me, by using a reMarkable 2 eink tablet. I'll try out code generated "handwriting" fonts in the future.

    Hopefully the links will help, do you think it's worth getting my handwriting "encoded", or should I try and do it myself?

      If you’re willing to master the font file yourself, it may be great, but tools for generating a single stroke font are not as mature as those for outline fonts. I can see why it costs so much to get handwriting made into single stroke fonts.

    Thanks for explaining. Great videos. I had to write 1000 sentences in school for blurting out an answer to a question - sent to the hall to write them. I used 3 pencils stacked together and wrote 334 instead. Man, if only I had a mini pen plotter back in the day I could have been even more of a pita.

    Your channel is probably the best one out there for drawing machines. I just ordered an iDraw v2. I am a network engineer by trade but I am also an artist. I use an iPad Air with procreate. I want to address cards and notes. I love to hand write Christmas cards and even put a wax seal on them I had designed.

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, the wax seal makes the world of difference! The iDraw is a great machine, especially as you have the engineering and art background, you're going to love it!

    Can you get the machine to write in my hand writing but with random human error like if it was me doing each individual card, or do them all come out the same

    I really like the way you present information in your videos. Do you believe that the ReMarkable tablet is the best way to convert handwriting to a pen plotter without getting heavy into the vector graphics?

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think so! For something quick and easy. The moment you want to automate it or use code then you have to wade into much harder stuff, although I _think_ may have found something, but it's going to take me a bit of time.

    Your videos are great, making what you think mundane still fascinating. I’ve been down the single stroke font rabbit hole for a while - and while there are some out there in the SVG format, Inkscape itself is not the greatest “host”. The Hershey extension is really a kludge, and doesn’t have all the typographic tools that we’ve all gotten used to. My new secret weapon is a piece of payware called Lightburn - although designed for use on lasers engravers, it handles single stroke fonts as peer tools with TrueType and other outline fonts…on the condition that they’re in .SHX format. SHX is an older font format from CAD platforms, and there are, remarkably, gobs of SHX fonts out there. Most of them are…well, not great. But just about all the Hershey native single stroke fonts can be found in SHX format. And there are other problems…but that’s when I see a whole video can be made about that.

      Thanks! I see a LOT of single-stroke fonts coming out for the Cricut. Now that's essentially a "pen plotter/cutter" tool for hobby and crafts there's a whole heap of single stroke fonts popping up. But while I can load them into Illustrator/InkScape I can't get them to export properly.
      I have a copy of Lightburn kicking around, I needed it for some GCODE stuff so perhaps it can wrangle with them.

      @padcraftingvideosandfiles8013 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@revdancatt The problem with the Cricut platform is export is terrible. The best I could do is print to PDF and kludge that apart. Not impossible - but cumbersome on the iPad. I'll give it a try with the single stroke fonts there. So far, Lightburn is the only app I've seen that treats the SHX fonts with ease. I've put in a feature request for support of SVG fonts there as well.

      @padcraftingvideosandfiles8013 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@revdancatt I had forgotten how clumsy it is to do design work in Cricut Design Space. And the PDF export kludge won't work with single stroke fonts there.

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Cricut is a pain. But it did make me laugh that before when it's all CNC machines and pen plotters getting single stroke fonts was a pain.
      Now the Cricut is involved there's suddenly a whole bunch of "Live, Love, Laugh" single stroke fonts for the crafty-creative crew 😁

    • @padcraftingvideosandfiles8013
      @padcraftingvideosandfiles8013 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@revdancatt I’m sort of glad for that, because if you look closely at the default Hershey text fonts, you’ll find that the curves are, well, not curves, but a series of short straight line segments. Apparently, there’s a historical reason for this. Finding single line fonts mastered for true curves is rather rare. I found tweaking large cursive strokes with live path effects on Inkscape helps, but cumbersome.

    Do you have experience in using single line fonts in Illustrator? Would love to see how that works.

    • @padcraftingvideosandfiles8013
      @padcraftingvideosandfiles8013 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think Illustrator natively supports single line fonts.

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can pull them into Illustrator, when in my experience when exporting them it turns them into outlines, because it sees them as a font rather than a series of lines.
      I'm going to go through trying a few out when I grab a proper handwriting font.

      Ah, that's the "Pen Clip Rotation Stage", lol, which I call the "twisty turner" - it's like $45 from the Evil Mad Scientist shop.
      I'm making a quick video about it, but I want to test it for a few weeks first so I can give a better opinion on it. But yeah it allows you to easily set the angle of the pen, and the values are so you record which angles work best for which pens.
