Tough choice....overall, it sounds like the Super Distortion has a heavier low end and the X2N has more of a midrange spike to it. This gives the SD a fuller sound on the low strings and chords in clean, and gives the X2N more oomph to single notes and high strings. In Distortion, The SD nails that low-end chunk for metal rhythms...but the X2N has more clarity and depth to the scales and notes. To put it another way, the SD's low-end comes in like a haymaker while the other notes pepper you with jabs, while on the other hand the X2N is consistently throwing hard hitting straights and crosses, but not quite as hard as the SD's haymakers on the low end. For me, if you could take the X2N and give it the low-end chunk of the Super Distortion, that would be the ultimate bridge humbucker metal and hard rock.
X2N is a blast furnace of a pickup. Don't even bother if you're not going to use it for complete destruction! It's just all gain all day long, and it has a way of feeling like you've got more gain than you actually have dialed in, like you can't get it to stop chugging.
I use both , the x2n gets a bit muddy , the super distortion has better definition, the x2n is more squishy and more forgiving, lots of output. The king is and always will be is the super distortion. Lots of great pickups out there, the evo is also very good at this high output stuff.the Gibson 498t is also a great choice, can't go wrong
On the distorted parts, the distortion sounds much more integrated with the X2N. With the Super Distortion, it kinda sounds like only the top end is distorted, and the lower frequencies are a separate, clean signal.
At clean channel I like more X2N, SD have too much irritating highs. But at distortion I prefer SD, it sound deeper and richer. X2N is a bit flat and have so strong signal that at some point's it's almost sound like X2N
Well, all the pickups used on almost all the modern music, are still from the 1950's and up. The tone in the video is more down to the guy's amp settings. Pickups are still just some wire wrapped around some magnets. The technology hasn't changed
They sound very similar...I'm trying to find a passive way to achieve 24v emgs but staying passive.. I'm looking to build up a guitar or buy one and all it needs are pups..emgs are nice but I wanted to seek a passive alternative
I personally like a fuller sounding drive and clean. Imo the super distortion has more high mids and top end than the X2N which isn’t as pleasing to me.
It's worth bearing in mind that passive pickups don't add anything to the tone. All they do is take away some of what's already there. And magnet material means absolutely nothing. Field strength and shape are the only variables. There are no "flavours" of magnetism. It's either there or it's not. If the field is the same size and shape, it's the same thing, regardless of whether one is crafted from meteorites by Buddhist monks, and one is made out of space age materials in a dirty industrial complex.
You’ve obviously never swapped an alnico mag for a ceramic or vice versa?! Lol. If you have there’s no way you would’ve made this ridiculous post, with all due respect. It completely changes the sound and feel in the exact same pup?!
@@mygabrielle7477 Because the field STRENGTH is different. Not one single other reason. The laws of physics don't care about advertising gimmicks. It doesn't matter if the magnet is made from ore from meteorites, refined by barefooted monks, or comes from a stinking factory in Detroit. If the magnet is the same size, and the strength of the magnet is the same, the difference is zero. none. There isn't one. There are no FLAVOURS OF MAGNETISM. If you'd read and understood my "ridiculous" post, you wouldn't have made your RIDICULOUS post. :P There are no other variables, no matter what guitar magazines tell you.
Both pickups are amazing. X2N is perfect in my 1998 cort Ibanez rg. Basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, drop B. I am still experimenting with neck pickups atm. Duncan Jazz model so far is pretty good in parallel. I will be trying a lace sensor soon.
This channel is doing god's work
🤣🙏🤘🙏🤣🤩
As Zakk Wylde would say, "Hail Father Stamper."
I like SUPER DISTORTION more.
Great comparison. Ur work is very important. Thank u

A custom pickup with one coil from each! Maybe thats what the Megadrive/D-Sonic/Crunchlab evolved from.
That sounds like a Dimebucker to me, honestly. But you're right, the SD especially has a ton of low end kick.
X2N sounds thin clean but really wakes up with the gain. X2N for me but would need to hear the lead tones to be sure.

X2n sounds clear , with more presence and Is tighter than SD, but im surprised how good the Super Distortion sounds in the staccato Riff.
3:42 the X2N hits you like a train!!!!

i am really liking the EVO2 as an option as well.
Great Demo👍🏻🎸😎

Super distortion for me by far.

Listen to crazy train by ozzy ozbourne, that’s a super distortion randy Rhoad’s is playing
X2N is tighter, more modern & aggressive. Super is a late 70s tone. Not that that is a bad thing
The X2N is from 1979 🤣

all 2 pickups are wery good choise.!
Hi. What amp are you using? Thanks
As an SD user I have to filter around 250hz before entering boost -amp, I play in drop b an A#. Very boomy for modern metal
That's what makes the Super Distortion great, though. Powerful low end riffs is what makes it amazing. Death metal on SDs hits like a sledgehammer.

X2N is the best pickup for metal IMO
idk i like them both :) both are great
The super distortion hits like a hammer, the xn2 hits like machete.
The X2N is just completely insane. Sounds as if it had a builtin tubescreamer or SD-1.
I personally like a fuller sounding drive and clean. Imo the super distortion has more high mids and top end than the X2N which isn’t as pleasing to me.
Very similar in clean tone, but X2N sounds tighter when distorted.
The material of body, fretboard or neck influence much. Maybe select a bassword-body one would deliver the founction of PUs and works better.
@@x.ao.6503 Actually body wood only effects sustain. On an electric guitar wood doesn't effect tone whatsoever especially distorted
@@nickcrane8329 Agree, it doesn't work as the way of an acoustic guitar.
I think these are the 2 best pickups for metal.
If you play an old Marshall that doesn't have that much gain, absolutely.
I needed harmonics clean sustain lead melody great demo tank's it takes lots of work to get it done cheers
Оба классно звучат, но как звучит в живую супер дисторшн хз, а вот х2н другое дело плотный злой звук как 6ти и 7ми струнный вариант.
I didn't care for the 7 string X2N. At least not in a Bc Rich JRV7.

There is absolutely a difference in the way an alnico or ceramic sounds.

@@ashscott6068 Okay Bill Lawrence
SD does it for me. X2N is too mushy in the heavy gain rhythm setting & not as articulate in the midrange single note demonstration.
I LIKE THE RICHER SOUND OF THE X2N BUT NONE OF THESE TWO CANT BEAT A DIMARZIO EVO
The Megadrive is my favorite!

Hard to choose. Both are actually pretty good. I just pick the Super Distortion because its THE 80s metal sound.
