In fact, it seemed like a normal part of life in the small city I lived in! There was often violence etc as well. I remember brawls in hotels and there was a big fight between rival gangs in the CBD one day. I was in a shop with my sister at the time, then the owner locked us inside. I could write a lot more on this subject, but I don't have time now. I will add that I love my homeland, even though I moved to Australia nearly 40 years ago (long story), and there are reasons why this is happening. It's not just the Maori people either since many white guys are in gangs in NZ too. 😥
