Hello Angie. The problem with shop bought carrots is you never know the name of the variety and they all taste the same. I have grown several varieties of carrots over the years all from seed and they all tasted better than shop bought. Sow them, grow them, harvest them, wash them, cook them, eat them, rediscover what carrots used to taste like. No storage issues for me all carrots from a small bucket can be eaten fresh within a few days of being picked. Jim.
I’ve tried Nigel and others you recommended but still disappointed. I leave mine in buckets over the winter and harvest as and when I need them. Harvested some today and they were okay but nothing spectacular. I always grow in buckets in exactly the same way as you. I sieve the soil so they never fork which is good. I’ve even tried pelleted seed and that wasn’t anything to write home about either.
Apologies. Must have been someone else who recommended Nigel. I couldn’t buy Trevor in the UK. I don’t have any problems with germination or growing, it’s just the variety. Maybe I should try round carrots or dwarf varieties?
Thanks for the progress photos and the final reveal. It definitely does help me manage expectations. Glad those puppers enjoyed their treats!
After 2 years of rubbish results, this year I got some great results trying a new variety. It's all an experiment. Loved eating them with our roast!
It's all an experiment and when you 'pull it off' it's so rewarding

I haven’t found a tasty carrot in 5 years of growing carrots. Any suggestions, which are available in UK??

@@angiedcake I've never grown 'Nigel'. I have grown 'Trevor' from pelleted seeds. Pelleted seeds are much easier to pick up and sow thinly.
