  • TJ walks you through the AFP removal process on a Honda Shadow VT600 for years 99-07 with a single carburetor.
    Once you've removed the Auto Fuel Petcock, (if you haven't, you should--it's a recalled part) you are going to be left with a tiny hose coming out of the rear cylinder head right by where the intake mates to the head. You can unscrew this little shitty brass port with an 8mm open end wrench and use our AFP Vacuum Port Plugs to make sure you don't have a vacuum leak!

    Awesome visual however you completely left out what to do with the remaining hose connections. Without the petcock, now you've got a hose to a carb and a gas tank, that may not be the same size. Simple for most, but worth a mention. Thanks! Great work!

      a 3/8" hose fits around the gas tank spout and carb neck perfectly. the petcock actually needs a special hose that's 1/4" on the part where it meets the petcock. You can run 3/8" straight from the tank to the carb

      It shouldn't cause any harm but you have to put a fuel filter in between, some people by-pass the fuel pump too but give all the options a try and see what works on your bike. If you can run without a pump, good for you, you have cut off some of the clutter

It continues to leak even after I have the mechanical petcock closed so I’m thinking to look at that instead of the AFP. Hey TJ,
    Im bypassing the AFP on my 01 Shadow 600, and im wondering what type of hose you use running from the tank directly to the carb. The connectors are different sizes on each end so the stock hose connected to the gas tank isn't really sitting well on the carb.

  • @Savage_OnesX

    I did this mod on my 600 due to the auto fuel petcock failing completely on me (diaphragm had failed and shut the all fuel off to my bike). I removed the afp and put in the plug. My problem is that I can’t seem to fit an in-line fuel filter in when I run a gas line from my tank to my carb. Just doesn’t seem to fit in the space for some reason. Could you maybe make a video showing how to run a fuel line directly to the carb and where the fuel filter goes after this mod is done. Thanks TJ

    • @awizardalso
      @awizardalso 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may not need a fuel filter as there's one inside the tank. I had a hard time running the fuel line after I removed the auto-shutoff as it was a very tight turn. I used two brass fittings to make the gas line get to the carb. One was a 90 degree fitting, with a hose fitting on one end and a tapped hole on the female outlet. I used another fitting that was male threaded on one end and a hose fitting on the other.With two short pieces of hose and the right angle fittings, it went on rather easily. I now have a tank from a 750 Shadow Aero on my VLX 600. The petcock is under the left edge of the tank, not deep in the center like the original VLX tank petcock was.

After many hard revs it would run GREAT up until you got about 30 miles then it’d stall out and not start. Once cooled the process starts over. Cleaned and rejected carb seemed to help for two days but went right back to hell. Can’t find ANYTHING on this issue.
