Honestly these videos are why I can actually sleep at night. It’s so relaxing to just see and know what goes into something being turned from old and rust to completely brand new. Keep up the good work man
People talk about the skill here, but I’m impressed by your patience while being absolutely meticulous during each step. I probably would have throw this thing against a wall a few times.
Beautiful! Personally, I would never put food in it after using auto paint, toxic filler, nickel plating, and non-food-safe wax, but it definitely belongs in a museum. Nice work!
There are 3 channels I watch with awe: a woodworker, a gun restorer, and you. Not only are you a master at your craft, you're a very good cameraman, and you also bring a little joy into the crazy world we live in. Bravo and thank you. 😎👍
Since the driving ring is only held in by a wing screw, it's probably not a huge deal to get it apart to clean it. But it doesn't look like it was cleaned much in the past when you see the rust. Ugh.
I was thinking, wow how's he going to deal with that hole on such thin damaged metal, their's no way... and you certainly found a way! I learn something new from your videos all the time! Awesome work!
As a former woodworker apprentice and Luthier i enjoyed that you kept some of the original wood parts. The wormholes tkinda looked good. Great one Tysy!. And my condolences for tour grandmother passing.
As always, nicely done. Nonetheless, I am surprised that you didn't (or at least didn't show) treating the wooden parts to make sure none of the beetle infestation was still active. Items used in or around food are not good candidates for fuming. However, both freezing and heating work as well. Freeze the items at 10F (-12C) three or four days. Alternatively, heat the items to 130F (55C) for 4 to 6 hours. I'm notoriously impatient, so I usually opt for the heating while I do other operations. Love your videos. The results are always stunning.
I don't think it matters if it's food safe the other things he did to it made it already not food safe. But I do like that he left the wood parts looking like Swiss cheese on a cheese grater
Beautiful job as always, the wooden base came out great, those mounting screws with the caps on them brought everything together, that brass just brought the red out.
Great video as always. Very nicely done. I always love watching your videos, they’re so calming. No obnoxious music or unnecessary overly commentating. Just simple relaxing sounds of your work.
With that big rusted out hole in the side, I was surprised you didn't give up and scrap the whole project. Such a beautiful restoration. I want a cheese grater like this one for my kitchen.
Your work astounds me every time. I wish I could afford to repair a copper chainmail hair ornament I got by a dear friend of mine. It's the only thing I had from her after she died. Her mother did not respect her will and wouldn't let me in to get all my stuff from her home. The copper hair ornament shined like red/orange flames and each chain link was set snug an polished to bot grab hairs. It's a work of art. So my little steap sister took it an then left it in a car cup holder under a shake for a week. It's dull an the beads on them cracked an screwed.
Your skills sir, are magnificent. You did an incredible job restoring this. It's beautiful. It must have been used as a commercial type cheese grater, industrial type. I can't imagine someone using this big thing in their home
I know I'm super late but I'm binging your videos rn, but stuff like this extra detailing is exactly why I watch this channel!! You go above restoring in all honesty, like around 7:18 you were removing seam lines from the original! Just that little extra detailing is so good.
Great restoration. I admire your patience to sharpen every single hole, and I love that you kept all the original handles, as it always saddens me when restorers throw perfectly salvageable wood away. Cheers!
I have never walked through an old barn or storage shed filled with rusty tools and thought for a second that anything in there could be restored to this degree with the right skillset. It is quite surprising.
